Last month we screened our little whimsy fairytale, Hooperella, at the iconic Egyptian Theatre during the 25th edition of LALIFF.

I’m immensely grateful to my wonderful cast and crew for your beautiful work.

And to my cohort, I’m in awe of your talent and inspired by all of you.

Next up in our LALIFF series is Karolina Esqueda @karolinaesqueda , writer and director of “Hooperella.” ✨🎬

Born in Tijuana, Mexico, Karolina creates films that explore identity, faith, science, and culture with humor, heart, and an evocative visual style. Her short film Hooperella follows a burnt-out PhD student who, with the help of her best friend, lab mice, and a pair of golden hoops, finds the courage to stand up to her advisor and lazy lab partner to fight for her research funding.

At a time when Latino representation in film continues to matter deeply, we’re proud to spotlight filmmakers like Karolina through this collaboration with @laliff_ , @latinofilminstitute_ , and the filmmakers.

WE MADE A MOVIE!💥🎬🎥

The time has finally come. Our wonderful film is done! We are excited to screen it on Sunday May 18th at 6:30pm at USC Eileen Norris Theater
