It’s been a few years since I’ve taken quality headshots for TV + Commercial acting specifically and I just know that these are going to be a game changer!

I’ll be posting a reel soon showing what my experience was like, but what I’ll say now is that Carla truly has a GIFT when it comes to color matching and orchestrating the most flattering shots.

I’ve grown to really love Social Media.

Mostly as a creative outlet, as well as a way to stay inspired by fellow artists and connected to long-distance family and friends.

But recently I’m spending a little more time scrolling than I’m comfortable with. So I think I just need a reset while I figure out again how to have more boundaries around my time usage.

I’ve taken 3 years off and then 10 months off in the past, but this time I’m thinking just a 30 day break should be enough. We’ll see!

From a “cool comedic commercial concept” that I just HAD to audition for to now watching the final footage, it’s been so fun being a part of this project and seeing it all come together!! 🎥

The actors and production team were phenomenal and just so good at their jobs. I’d say more about it, but my kiddos are waking up and I’ve gotta turn on mommy mode! Haha

Super happy with how this one turned out! 🧡

This was our first time singing with the live orchestra and it made all the vocals (and the overall story) come to life!! Wish I could share MORE with you, but I guess you just gotta come out and see it for yourself!

This role feels meant to be, lemme tell you why:

-Deloris has felt that she’s “too much” all her life, and so have I. We both discover that’s not the case.
-Her story of fatherlessness leading to seeking acceptance, validation, and love from all the wrong places…is my story as well. Thankfully, we both eventually find it from the RIGHT source.
-Even a couple years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to portray Deloris’ electrically exuberant, expressiveness. But after much healing and self-rediscovery (and with the help of my business @expressions.coaching) I’ve grown A LOT in shamelessly expressing myself!
-She discovers that she’s somewhat of a teacher, a leader, a unifier, and a celebrator of individuality and freedom of expression. I’ve been learning that about myself lately.
-She’s hilaaarious and I’ve been longing to play a comedic role of this caliber.
-She honestly feels like a version of ME, but in the 70’s. 🪩 There’s a bit of a “kindred spirit” feeling as I dive deeper into portraying her character.

The list goes on, but’s that’s all I’ll share for now!
I’m just beyond honored to be the storyteller that gets to bring Deloris Van Cartier to life! And boooy does she have a lot of LIFE in her! Haha Congratulations @cabrillostage on 45 FABULOUS seasons! 🙌🏾 And thank you @lookoutsantacruz for the wonderfully well-written article.

If only you knew the work it took to get here.

But y’all, I feel like I’ve arriiiived! 🙌🏾

My life had been one of masking pain
and living in crippling fear.
Always searching,
always longing…
for a love I couldn’t give myself.
Years of suppressed hurt that then
led to losing myself and hurting others.
I had to confront the fact that
I didn’t know who I was…
and worse I hated who I’d become.
I truly had to hit rock bottom
to discover that I don’t ever want to live there again.
Not only do I understand myself
more than ever,
but I genuinely LIKE who I’m becoming!
God has been faithful to reveal
what true love and purpose is!
And now that my eyes are open to that…
I’m never going back!!

Year 32 was my best yet!
Let’s see what you got for me 33!
And thank YOU for being on this journey with me! 🧡
