Last Sunday, we had fun at the Y-M-C-A! 🎶 — East Boston 5K! It was a beautiful fall day (I could see that even without my peripheral vision 😉). We caught up with neighbor friends, and our team even took home a couple of Dunkin’ gift cards for Best Group Costume! 🏆🎃

We’re grateful to our local Y @ymca_eastboston for so many things! It’s where I first discovered spin, Henry first learned to swim, and both kids went to summer day camp. And now that Henry has aged out of Jr. Celtics (a fantastic program he’s been part of every year since he was 6!), we’re hoping he’ll give back by volunteering as a junior coach! 🏀

Sending love to Paris. Toujours dans mon cœur. 🇫🇷❤️ #ThrowbackThursday
.
Look at all this beautiful footage from JUST ONE DAY (+ 2 nights) in Paris! This was the summer of ’24, when our son Henry wished to summit the Eiffel Tower for his 12th birthday. As luck would have it, Paris was preparing to host the Olympic Games, making the visit extra special — an we had to leave our Tuscan villa just before his birthday anyway. Tough life! 😉
A quick aside: Our Italian vacation that year deserves its own throwback reel. Living there felt like being in the family Bridgerton — except Italian. We could have been the Bridgertoni! 😂🇮🇹
As you can see, we walked ALL OVER Paris. Even more than planned, because some of the routes normally open to pedestrians were blocked by temporary structures for the upcoming Games. It was everyone’s first time in Paris except mine, so we had hit the tourist spots hard. We didn’t make it back to our charming, pastel-colored Airbnb until well after midnight! The kids weren’t complaining though, and our whole family fell head over heels for Paris. 🥰
Both Henry and Freya are studying French now — he at school and she on Duolingo — and I think this trip had a lot to do with their choices! Henry is even returning to Paris over Feb. vacay w/ Boston Latin, and we are hosting a French exchange student from BLS’ “sister” school in Grenoble in Feb. All of this makes me happy.
I spent my early youth in French-speaking Switzerland, my father lived in Paris for years, and I minored in French Literature in college. I grew up with a deep affection for French culture and society, and I have so many warm memories tied to that part of the world; which is why it’s especially heartbreaking to watch the unrest, looting, fires, and uncertainty unfolding in France this week. 💔
A place that holds so many wonderful memories for me deserves peace, safety, and hope for the future.
As a proud Polish American, I also believe there are lessons to be learned from Poland’s approach to preserving its national identity, traditions, and Christian heritage. 🇵🇱

The claims for Opalite: Magically turn all that crapiness into happiness! ✨🪄

I feel like taking that bottle and spraying it ALL OVER PLANET EARTH. 🌍💦 And while we’re at it, can we test it on abusers, terrorists and vandals, too?! Asking for… humanity. 🙏🏻

How it Started v. How HE’S GOING | #flashbackfriday #bikes x #belatedbirthdaypost 🙌🏻🚴🏻‍♂️🎉
.
You may remember my recent post about Henry’s dreams of becoming a pilot, but aviation isn’t his only passion. He has always loved biking, too, and this July he took things to a whole new level by creating an actual PowerPoint presentation to convince us to get him an e-bike for his 14th birthday! 😂👏🏻

It worked! 🙌🏻 Henry is loving his newfound freedom riding all over Boston! We just ask him to be as aware of his surroundings and to stay as safe as he can and to always wear a helmet.

I recently read that one of David and Victoria Beckham’s children also used a PowerPoint to make a case for a hairstyle change and a business venture, and I couldn’t help laughing. Apparently, PowerPoint presentations are the new way for kids to negotiate with their parents! Apparently the Beckhams are also stricter than we are — because they said no! 🤣

Soaring into the long weekend like… Captain Helgason! 😉✈️🙌🏻 #mood x #memoriesforlife ✌️😎

If your kid dreams of becoming a pilot (just like our son here) or is curious about careers in aviation, we highly recommend checking out the OBAP Boston ACE Academy. Henry attended for a week this July and I should have highlighted it sooner. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Boston-area kids to explore the world of flight! 🛫 @obapexcellence @obapnortheast

Birthday weekend at Canobie Lake Park! ❤️ I’ve spent YEARS looking at Untamed and thinking, Absolutely not. That drop is INSANE. 😳
.
Then Henry convinced us all to ride it. And guess what? I DID IT! And…I actually had a blast! 🎢😂

Apparently middle-age me can still handle roller coasters, but spinning and swinging rides? My inner ear has officially retired. I Googled it and it is due to sensory mismatch whereby your eyes, inner ears, and body send mixed signals to your brain. In other words, as you age, your balance system loses efficiency, making it harder for your brain to process fast, confusing movements. What a drag!
.
I’m still a kid at heart — just with slightly more limited ride options! 😆

Dolly x Duncan x Dante 🎶🎂💕
I wanted to share a tribute to Dolly Parton, whose passing is a loss for so many fans.

Dolly was not only a class act, but also a fearless female founder who continually expanded into new spaces—from music and entertainment to baked goods and even pet accessories (more on that one later!)

One of my favorite Dolly-related memories involves her partnership with Duncan Hines. A few years ago, when Henry graduated from 6th grade at the Dante Alighieri Montessori School, I used Dolly’s Duncan Hines banana ready-made cake mix to save some time while making his graduation cake. It turned out to be such a hit that when I went looking for the cake later, I couldn’t find it and thought the staff had forgotten to put it out. They had put it out—it had simply been completely eaten!

Thank you, @dollyparton , for the music, the inspiration, the cake, and the joy you brought to so many people.
