<Letterspace 50 | LS#50>
@letterspace.amsterdam

letterspace.amsterdam has been a platform for the local letterform scene since early 2018. Since its inception, the initiative has set out to broaden perspectives on how we communicate, design, and play with letterforms. Letterspace was founded by three type designers whose aim has been to look beyond their own practices and connect with others who enjoy working with type as a medium.

A regular lecture programme and a focus on Amsterdam requires the organisers to seek for new voices and approaches. For this book, letterspace invited speakers from the first 50 events to present new work, write essays, or offer a glimpse into their analogue or digital sketchbooks, while reflecting on the time that has passed since their talk.

Letterspace 50 is as diverse as the lectures themselves: a collection of ideas, methods and people that demonstrates that typography is not a narrow discipline, but a vibrant and evolving landscape. The book is beautifully designed by two former members of the 530 Type Club Arnhem, which likewise stands for communal enjoyment of type.

a forum as a gathering basket; a library as a picnic mat 📮 is live on Substack!

We penned our thoughts on the inaugural @fashionandmarket forum that happened a few weekends ago, hoping to immortalise the love that transformed seemingly insurmountable tasks (research and writing, ideating and executing, making and selling) into the very things that bring people together!

Read till the end for a short reflection on common pages, a roving picnic mat library of fashion books and printed matter.

Huge shoutout to the @fashionandmarket team and @pixietan_ for being the easiest people to say YES to.

Using shapes found in the neighbourhood we constructed a type workshop that moved throughout the neighbourhood event.

The typeface will be available for the residents of Elderveld for usage. All other licenses have to be discussed.

Thanks @de_vormforensen for this lovely project!
& to @melissavanlimburg for the amazing working togetherness. And to @hesselinkhelena for the preparations for the workshop!

🪧BACK IN STOCK ✍️Marginalia Book Club: Will You Bring Your Book to dblspce✍️

'Marginalia Book Club: Will You Bring Your Book to dblspce' is a place-specific publication that documents the marginalia collected during Xingyun’s residency at dblspce in Singapore. For four weeks, the old shop unit in Peninsula Shopping Centre transformed into a marginalia-curious communal library titled ‘Will You Bring Your Book’. With an invitation to bring any text-based material one wishes to read and annotate with others, visitors brought old textbooks, novels, art books, handmade zines, photocopied texts, manuals, comics, and fan fiction excerpts.

Spurred by the audacity to collapse the hierarchy of printed information and handwritten annotations, heaps of free time, and a scanner to use at liberty, the publication documents page margins as sites for collective reflection and spontaneous conversation-making.

Clothes Press dedicates this publication to the readers who joined Xingyun in reading together, and to dblspce, which housed the conversations that happened on and off the page during that fateful summer month.
