With Mother’s Day around the corner, I feel proud to share the recent work of my daughter, Saskia Globig, a Yale graphic design fellow at Center for Book Arts. She designed the exhibition titles and catalog for the exhibition ending today, called Rewriting the World: Isidore Isou and the Lettrism Book. Fascinating, surprising show of an avant-garde cultural movement about which I had previously known nothing. Saskia also gave a talk at CBA about her work, and designed the poster for the center’s upcoming annual benefit. Very proud of her accomplishments and generally as a wonderful human. I’m sharing an open call to participate in fiber artist @kayla.powers project called Sowing Seeds, a collaborative piece to be featured at Kayla’s solo exhibition, Flourish, at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts in Saugatuck, MI in November! Playing on the words “sowing” and “sewing”, the project calls for sewn fabric “seeds” that will be displayed at the exhibition, themed on “biodiversity, interconnectedness and the cyclicality of the living world”. Visitors will be invited to take a seed home. I love the concept and knew immediately I wanted to participate. I so enjoyed making these seeds, knowing they will be gifted in an expression of reciprocity. Used up some fabric scraps and gently embellished some of them with beads. I’m very pleased that this stitched piece, titled Today, will be part of Threaded Paths, an exhibit of global fiber artists curated by Val Ramshur. It combines techniques and materials that I love using, including acrylic, canvas, rice paper, ink, Mylar, cotton fabric of my own design, thread, polyester stuffing, and interfacing, implementing a vocabulary of favorite organic shapes that I keep returning to. Inspired by erosion, stones, nature, time, wear. Built on my history of printmaking, textile design, assemblage art, sewing, and painting….all these experiences leading to the work I’m creating today.
