Threaded Paths Submission:

Today
Katia Bulbenko
Weehawken, NJ
Freelance illustrator, Surface Pattern Designer, and Mixed Media Artist

“This mixed media piece is a reflection of the many artistic experiences that have shaped my practice until today, combining my favorite materials: acrylic on canvas, paper, hand painted silk, mylar thread, cotton fabric of my own design, polyester interfacing and polyfill stuffing.
The organic shapes and layering techniques are typical of my abstract work.”

"Cocoon" by Katia Bulbenko, "Recorded episode" by Robin Muccari, and "Kodak Brownie Portraits" by Mary Kroetsch, part of our current exhibition "Experimental Intervention" guest curated by Leisa Rich.

"Their willingness to risk failure and embrace the learning curve of novel approaches transforms the resulting works into acts of bold self-expression. The journey of exploratory personal growth these artists have undertaken is as significant as the final artwork themselves, resulting in pieces that inspire deeper meaning and have more emotional impact. The unconventional choices made are not for mere aesthetic appreciation but are intended to foster a dialogue that transcends medium-specific art and enhances viewer engagement." - Leisa Rich, Curator

This is my 10th and final piece of art I want to share as part of the challenge I accepted from Marie V Weiss. This is an unfinished textile collage I started months ago.
I wanted to make it about a parasite, or cancer. When when COVID 19 worsened and we were in Quarantine, I worked on it more and felt be about COVID 19 virus. I would like to ask Katiabulenko, Kat_may_bee to accept the challenge of showing a new or old piece of art everyday for 10 days and then challenge another artist.

Still on view for a few more weeks at
SILVERMAN @silvermanbuilding and the Majestic Theatre Condominium: Katia Bulbenko @kat_may_bee “Fragments/Reassemblage”

Curated by Kristin J. DeAngelis @kjdeangelis
Katia Bulbenko is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of painting and sculpture, who has exhibited work locally, nationally and internationally. Her abstract constructions, related to nature and landscape, are studies in composition and layering as well as a reflection of her inner life, becoming their own realms. Katia's pieces are influenced by eroded objects, fragments and relics. After completing her BFA in printmaking at Tyler School of Art, Katia discovered silk painting and created textile designs for women's apparel. Many of her painted silk pieces have found their way into her layered assemblages, which may also include upcycled materials, wood, canvas, paper, felt, and beads.

The Virtual Tour will be open to you 24/7 via the website: www.deangelisart.com - scroll to Virtual Tours.

We will notify everyone when the exhibition will be back on view in the Majestic Theatre Condominium lobby.
Majestic Theatre Condominium
222 Montgomery Street
Jersey City, NJ 07302
