Start to finish, Friday- Sunday was the most perfect graduation celebration for Caroline, my younger sis. Celebrating her is easy because Caro never fails to be amazing in all things she sets her mind to.

All the celebrations, especially the food, was successful and full of so many laughs. This was our last dinner spot, called Smoked. It was in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC. Two dozen oysters were ordered from their dense raw bar. We even cooked our own steak strips at the table on a 500 degree volcanic stone. Shareable plates is the route we took, but they also have a great selection of regular sized entrees.

Hands down, a must visit if you’re in Columbia. It had the most comfortable and well decorated back patio. But sitting inside would have been just as chic. Inside seating is spacious, comfortable booths, and has two full bars. Also for the girlies, the bathroom was pristine. Definitely a great spot for events…or like us, spending time with the family!!

While I’m here in Boston, I’ve been prioritizing my health, both physically and mentally. I’ve been using Class Pass, a really awesome app that allows me to be flexible and workout when and where I want.

I literally go to a different gym or instructor-lead class every time. Wherever I’m at, I pick the most convenient time and place for my workout. I LOVE IT.

The app even has options for massage therapy, cryotherapy, facials, dry needling, meditation.

This gym is called Republic Fitness and is in the financial district of Boston. While I was almost blown away by the insane wind, reminding me of Chicago, once I made it indoors, the calm, warm and dimly lit gym was everythinggg. They had clean, large locker rooms and facilities, supporting women on the go with showers, hair dryers with styling attachments, and even straighteners (which I didn’t use bc I had to catch a train). The women’s restrooms were stocked with feminine care products which to me always shows the scale of a business 🙌🏼

When I’m going to lift weights, I also want space to do mobility stretches and possibly body weight training. They had a perfectly sized turf section, supportive equipment like every band type imaginable, weighted balls of all sizes, etc.

My favorite part: the Theraguns and massage table 🫠😭

Soooo, for the last month and a half, 3-4 days out of my week, I have been waking up at 4 am to commute to my operating room nursing job in Boston.

Currently I stay in Rhode Island, which is just one state south if you need to brush up on your basic 5th grade geography 😉 I arrive back home from my train around 9 pm after a 12 hour shift. I cherish my days full days off, so I’m sticking to 12’s

I’ve been a bit quiet and not sharing much lately. So many life changes have occurred in the last 6mon-year. I almost bought a house, then I didn’t. I moved out of my beautiful DTN Indianapolis apartment soon after, shifted my schedule to weekends and then worked nights, got into a bad accident where my car was totaled (my baby I worked so hard for- the MB GLC- RIP), and now moved across the country.

I’m very excited about the job I’ve accepted in Boston, Massachusetts. I’ll be working in a Level 1 Trauma Hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical in the heart of Boston. I still work in surgery, and am looking forward to more complex cases, hopefully involving more research as well. It will be incredible to work alongside Med Students, Residents, Fellows, and Surgeons who are training and have trained at Harvard. Working in this field has felt like a rollercoaster the last nearly 5 years, but now, more than ever, I am enthusiastic about growing my skills and knowledge. Upon reflecting, the last 5 years have been more volatile personally than ever. Each place I have traveled to work has served me positively, whether the experiences were truly a good fit for me or not. I’ve taken the growth where I can each time. Finally, I’m at a place where I am feeling reinvigorated again about my career to grow even more. I am on a constant mission to understand more about our bodies. While it seems there is endless information we already have access to, more is being discovered. I am also humbly discovering what has already been known for much time.

Nursing is physically and mentally tough to put it lightly. I have had many days and nights where a glass of wine seemed to be the only thing I could decompress with after a long day. No one could understand what I did or saw for the last 13 hours. Every area of healthcare has its moments and my area of surgery including. But at this very moment, I am thankful to be where I am and grateful for those who keep supporting me along the way. You are truly the only ones who know what I do for work, who can stomach the conversation to start. I am always thinking of you all even if it goes unsaid. 💕 I’ll be back in Indy soon. by @kat_prentice

Sista Jam ❤️ I’ll forever be grateful for your friendship and you coming into my life in middle school. You were my rock as we grew in high school and I continue to still look to you for the grace, unyielding love, and acceptance you have for everyone in your life. You and Taylor are so deserving of this love you share and I’m happy I could have just been a witness by your side during your special day.
