Unpopular opinion: regular wallpaper is easier to apply than peel and stick.

Results with my peel and stick were still good, and for now, I still think this was a great idea to elevate the sink in my hallway- which I would never take out. I still need to choose a mirror and some artwork to fully bring the space together, but PLEASE swipe to the end to see what I started with today. It was not cute. Honestly, so far my fav part is the dried hydrangea clippings cut from my garden last fall in my new flower cup.

I also need to paint just below the edge of the (original 1902) marble, and I haven’t decided if I want to go with a pop of color or keep it the wall color. The paper really makes my antique white wall color look yellow, so my plan is to bring in some warmer tones with the mirror and small art pieces left of the sink on the short wall inside the nook. In reverse, but same idea, I’m going to bring some cooler tones within artwork on the long hallway wall to the right. IN TIME, bc I am not a bottomless money pit interior designer. I always find solutions like these as I go about life. No rush yk:) by @katherineprenticeart

Tis the season of the birds, the bees, and the bunnies :) after two tough years of cutting, pruning, and packing up debris, all the overgrowth is nearly under control.

Watching the spring blooming season of plants, bushes, and trees, that were here before me/that I planted, gives me so much joy.

Some of my favorites right now: white and pink Rhododendron, Hostas and Ferns, and Russian sage. The orange verbena and petunias at the end are my Aunts, so I can’t claim them. This time of year in RI is unbeatable. Just 2-ish weeks till the Annual Newport Flower Show! by @katherineprenticeart

Good afternoon friends! And here is my finished project! (It was actually completed last Friday around 2pm est). I have been recovering from the hard labor, and back home in Indiana, enjoying family and this weather.

I couldn’t be more please with this room. I’ll be sharing more of it in the coming days, with before and afters, more close-up videos of paint repairs where the wall meets the trim and the close-ups of the beautiful @linseedpaint Arran blue on the wood.

Finding the linseed paint was probably the best discovery and decision I could have made in this room. I wanted to protect and persevere my 125 year old wood, and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product. And I’ll be using it more throughout the house for rooms that need the paint stripping as well.

I went with this Arran Blue for an airy color that could transform to a more comforting and cozy atmosphere once the evening sun began creeping through the bay windows. It also is within my rug and pillow cases from life chapters before this home was even purchased, and I like these items enough to keep. Rug choice in a room is so tough for me, and I know I’m not alone in that, so it’s staying!

I chose bamboo Roman shade that wouldn’t cover up and hide my hard work on the windows. That carpentry deserves a front row seat to the room!

The coffee table was a VERY last minute snag from the one and only, FACEBOOK MP. (I get 85% of my furniture from there with no shame). It’s skinny and low, matching the space in front of my lower-set, deep couch. It’s a primitive, old wood, piece. Not sure what it’s actually supposed to be- maybe an old cobblers bench, because the rounded part on the far left side is actually leather, resembling a seat where your legs would hang off the edge. But I thought it was perfect and vinage, tying in modern with old.

I still have goals for this room- like a skinny console table with smaller lamps behind the couch and one more chair where the woven stool sits that would face the tv.

Thanks for following along!

Here are some process videos of what I’ve posted to my stories the last several weeks. The project is all finished and I can’t wait to share soon! Redoing this room was VERY labor intensive.

Looking back, the hardest part was heat-stripping the paint and SANDING. It took the longest amount of time and was physically the hardest part. I burnt myself, acquired MANY splinters, cut my fingers, and my manicure didn’t last beyond the first 24 hours.

Other challenges:
1. doing all of the things for the first time (minus using my miter saw). There was a learning curve for sure. And much of this project took twice as long, since I had never done most things before
2. Perfectly positioning and nailing things on the wall at level by myself was tough. But I did it, and I’m here to reassure all the girlies that you can do hard things too
3. Moving heavy furniture and moving my ladder around the room constantly was difficult and tediously annoying.
4. Avoiding inhaling dust, vacuuming, vacuuming, and vacuuming AGAIN- which let’s be honest…. The dust was probably lead-infused paint 😬

Positives: I had a vision and inspo for this room and I 10000000% executed on that(more to come later on my finishing touches). I accomplished small and big goals and proved to myself that I can finish a medium-sized project start to finish still. (Sometimes I get bored and distracted and don’t finish my side quests. Very unhealthy habit) and lastly, I protected my home’s carpentry by taking this peeling paint off and resealing it with oil-based paint. :))

When I tell you this backyard has been a two-year, very intense transition, I wishhhhh I could give you all the details. From slithering garden snakes in my grass, spiders the size of quarters (and their babies), not one, BUT 8 Taylor Made golf clubs (no driver though, bummer), various pieces of trash, lighters, a soccer ball and volleyball, AND I’m sure other items were found in the weeds.

In 2024, I started this cleanup, and it was one of my first projects. I closed on the house in May, and I must not have gone in the backyard? Bc I feel like I would have remembered seeing this. But anyways, all it needed was a curing woman’s touch and tons of elbow grease. Gloves, long sleeves and pants were 100% necessary during cleanup, but now I’m so happy to finally get to put my hands in the dirt with no fear of what might get me.

Much of the yard was overgrown weeds- some taller than me! Most of it I could easily yank out, but once I got down to the ground more, it took a giant shovel and many yard waste bags from Lowe’s.

You might ask: why didn’t you just hire someone to do this??? OH, I tried. I was quoted $500+ just to cleanup this ~40x 20 yard. So I took to the job myself. My uncle sawed down a dead tree. I ripped another one out with a shovel (pictured at the end of the video with haphazard rocks and bricks around), and then in spring of 2025, I finally was able to relay bricks for a border and begin controlling the good growth that was already there and planting what I wanted personally.

This year, in 2026, there have been tons less weeds. They are still a problem, especially in the back right corner, but it’s much more under control. My main issues are: overgrowth of wild garlic, spearmint, and maple saplings galore. This year. The neighbors maple tree decided to try and procreate like crazy- something it does every 3-5 years, depending on previous winter weather conditions. I was hand weeding saplings upon saplings in the garden, so that they wouldn’t grow larger and take water from the others. Last year, I did transplant a red maple, which I pictured in the beginning. Excited about that bc it has new stems/branches and is much bigger this ye by @katherineprenticeart

As some of you may or may not have known, I have been restoring and renovating a 124 year old, historic home in RI for a couple years now. I want to bring you all along on my journey within my art page, showcasing the things I’m learning, appreciating, and accomplishing.

Unfortunately, I didn’t share all my challenges and accomplishments the first two years, so you have missed a lot(AND I MEAN A LOT)- BUT there is a never ending list, and much to do,still. The task of keeping an old home standing is not a problem, but electrical, plumbing, old boiler heating, paint, siding, roof, landscaping, etc sometimes is ;)

Here are some photos of what I love about my home- it’s architectural detail is what stood out to me. It has a story for the family who built it in 1902. The craftsmanship in carpentry is a major focus of my Colonial Revival, and I love that most. Every room has special moments, and that’s what a house should exhibit. It should make you feel something!

With all that being said, I haven’t stopped painting. This page will begin to share both my historic home and my love for painting, so I hope you can keep up! :) I will hopefully be regularly active and get to know Instagram better as I share my creative process. Eeeeek, very excited!!! by @katherineprenticeart

This past week, a close friend of mine purchased an art piece that was close to my heart when painted years ago in 2015.

Sometimes it’s difficult to part ways with a created work, and other times, it feels like the new owner was supposed to have it all along. There’s no doubts, and just excitement with this one. And most definitely, there’s a sense of relief that it’s in good hands!

I’ll be posting more art pieces that are for sale from my studio on this page, so please keep a look out! by @katherineprenticeart

Recently I was able to complete three pieces that were part of one cohesive unit. A wonderful longtime friend of mine purchased these three pieces for her and her fiancé’s living room at home. They now hang beautifully above their couch and pull the room together. It was truly their missing link to the room.

Each finished painting is a step forward, as I continue to develop myself as an artist 👩🏼‍🎨 I’m excited to be back in the studio working new again!

Each piece I create is from scratch, down to the process of making my frames, stretching, priming, and placing a wire on the back to properly hang.

Thank you to Vee for allowing me the space to create. She came to me after seeing some of the current work I was creating, and sharing in our love for simplistic, organic spaces, I was able to create a piece that touches on the aspects of nature that we love most. I pulled in color schemes from her new Chicago home.

As we embark on the journey to create zen in our homes, color and shape play a large role. For awhile, I’ve been focused on triangles, the strongest shape, in my work. It’s a simple reminder to me of the strength we can find even in our natural, given environment. Vee trusted me to help her in the journey of developing her new space, and I’m so grateful!

This weekend we spent time catching up and reflected on her various moves around the country. She expressed her love of nature that her previous home in Utah holds in her heart. As we grow, shift, change, (whatever you call it for yourself) it’s important to take with us what we love and let go of what does not serve us positively.

Vee, I hope this painting reminds you of the strength and beauty within that you have acquired from all of life’s moments, trials, and victories. You’re an amazing friend ❤️ taken in Indianapolis, Indiana by @katherineprenticeart
