Well, he has a dorm! The kids in this building all have singles but he has access to a cool lounge/dining/kitchen area that is shared. They are 10 stories up and the view is incredible. First night is tonight and I have no doubt that he will be excited, perhaps feeling like all of the "new" is really really a lot but the kid is nothing if not chill. New school. New friends. Big new adventure. I wish for you, kiddo, that this is your best year yet! I love you so much. #newdorm #youvegotthis by @katalenaliscious

Off to university: a 4 day trip from LA up the coast to the ferry at Port Angeles -- and seeing the Olympic Peninsula retreat behind the flag fluttering on the back of the boat brought home that this is a trip to the Great White North, to family (a trip through so much nature: fires, magnificent redwoods, the coast, a fierce storm which was a first for the kid) and, yes, it's all in the little moments when you're doing a big, big thing. #goingtouniversity #mykidisagreatdriver #proudmamamoments by @katalenaliscious

It was incredible: humor, heartbreak, voices that caused chills and then the production?! The costumes, sets, sound lighting (honestly, the chandelier was the least of it!) truly blew my mind. Writing a letter to one kid who is already off on her grand adventure (thank you for the prompt @mushroomman31) while the bags pile up next to the front door for my own kid. The fact that he happens to be flying his first daytime crosscountry right at this moment: over 100 miles from Santa Monica to Santa Barbara airport, is perfect. Our kids are flying the coop, both literally and metaphorically, and I could not be prouder. (You know there are mama-tears involved as well, bien sur. I also hope that the takeaway for the kids is, as the song says, "une sourire, une lumière, simple et sincere.") by @katalenaliscious

First solo without an instructor in sight -- walk out to the plane, which is new(ish) to you, sit and study the instrument panel - not one you're used to, and then run pattern eleven times, landing with wind gusts (started a discussion with your local ATC tower and nearby pilots when you reported them) but wind, absolutely plenty of that, no doubt. Some landings smoother than others - having no passenger makes the plane leap off the runway and handle differently. Do you have a mama watching (and dad) so so so so proud at your seriousness and your commitment and your increasing skill?
