Kate Fagan is a South Carolina based painter whose work explores the intersection of place, time, and light.

Kate holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary where she concentrated on the relationship between theology and the arts, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in oil painting from Clemson University. Kate’s work speaks to the intertwined relationship between the sacred and the material, and holds with reverence the sanctity of a fleeting moment in time. Her work illuminates isolated moments within the broader, ever-evolving narrative of time.

Her artistic achievements include the prestigious Bob Hunter Award in Undergraduate Fine Arts Studio, recognizing her outstanding creativity and technical excellence, and a purchase award from Furman University for her oil painting Transition, which now resides in the university’s permanent collection.

I feel very fortunate in this stage of my painting career that I am mostly commission-based. Truly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Painting for someone, listening to their vision and bringing it to life feels like an act of love and care for that person and/or their family. There’s nothing like it. If you’re interested in putting a project on my fall schedule, or even inquiring about the process, feel free to reach out to me.

*Important side-note: Call me crazy, but I am already planning into my Christmas schedule. It’d kill me to turn down a project because I ran out of time in the short couple of months leading up to Christmas! Contact me soon if a gift (or even a gift certificate) is something you’re interested in this season.

Love to you all. Have a beautiful day, everyone 🤍 by @katefaganstudio

If you don’t know my story, here it is…
I spent my years growing up completely obsessed with becoming a painter.
I academically trained for years in the fine arts.

Then, BIG plot twist…

God called me into vocational ministry.

I served full time as a minister for over a decade and studied theology and the arts at Fuller seminary. Shout out to Fuller for having the best theology and arts concentration that exists!

There, I remembered God is the first and truest Artist.

Now, I’m merging my two worlds.

People used to say I preached like a painter.
Now it’s time to paint like a preacher.

“In time, all these somethings add up to something good.”@davidtaylor_theologian

This passage beautifully articulates my experience of venturing into a creative calling. At times, the thought of what may be or even what may never be became overwhelming. Therefore, early on, I resolved that each day I’d simply do something. Plant a seed. See if it grows. And while I’ve never been any good at math, I figured a thousand days of planting seeds, a thousand little somethings, would inevitably result in some wonderful, accumulation of anything and everything. It’s still early on, but it certainly seems to be true. 🤍 by @katefaganstudio

This is a piece that I will be showing for the first time at Open Studios this year. It’s quite large and would be absolutely stunning as a statement piece (especially if you need to add some color) for a large wall, a bedroom or a mantle.
Of course I’m sure I’ll keep tinkering with it but it’s nice to be close 🤣 you know what they say… beware of “one more brushstroke!”

Just a little glimpse into the workspace. I have about seven paintings in progress… some commissions, some passion projects. The little one on the easel is just a portrait of my daughter that I tinker with whenever have a little extra paint. Hoping to finish it before she graduates high school. 🤣 Love to you all 🤍🎨 by @katefaganstudio

“When did you start painting, Mom?” My daughter asked me this while we were together in the studio this afternoon. I didn’t have a good answer for her because I’ve loved to paint and draw for as long as I can remember. Watching her today get lost in her imagination with a canvas reminded me of myself at that age. How I loved to lose myself in play. The more I allow myself to return to that state and play, the happier I am with the outcome. My prayer for her is that she will always create, always try and resist the temptation to give up when the resistance feels overwhelming. And that even when she’s old, she will always remember to play 🤍 by @katefaganstudio

Let’s make some history 🖼️

Did you travel somewhere special this year with your loved ones?
Did you celebrate a milestone?
Did you renovate a space that is still looking a little bare?
Or move into a new home?
Was there a recent marriage?
The passing of a loved one?
Was a child born into your family?

Art is one of the most beautiful ways to give a gift that is so much more meaningful than just *more stuff.* It’s a piece of your life that can be passed down for generations.

If you’d like to know more about commissions, reach out to me on DM’s or my email.

Kids are back in school so I’m back in the studio full time with lots of fun projects up my sleeve. Can’t wait to show y’all this one when it’s done. In the meantime, here’s how all paintings are born—the underpainting!
