Beyond thrilled to share the dates for my Fall book tour to support THE MOTHER-IN-LAW BOOK CLUB.

Things kick off at my local favorite Flyleaf Books on release day and keep going until we wrap-up at my home away from home Brightside Books & Wine. In between, I'm stopping at a pinch me list of fantastic bookstores.

I’ll be posting about each event individually in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for more details!

The Author 🌟 The Cover 🌟 The First Line

…but let’s make it a reintroduction! It’s been almost a year since my last get-to-know me post and there are now more than 3,700 of y’all here along for the ride!

I’m Kate 👋 I’m a 40-something elder millennial (circa 1983), mom of two, wife of one (another husband feels like a lot of work), author (two book babies!), and newsletter writer over on Substack.

✈️ My upcoming novel, THE MOTHER-IN-LAW BOOK CLUB, hits shelves this October. It’s a story about friendship and unexpected love for fans of The Family Stone and It’s Complicated.

🔨 My debut, GRACIE HARRIS IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, came out in July 2025. It’s a cozy summer read set in the mountains of North Carolina and perfect for those who enjoy a good cry as they turn the pages.

📚 My TBR pile is likely as high as yours and is filled with a mix of book club fiction, classics I can’t seem to quit, cozy mysteries, and medical histories. I’ve been an avid reader my entire life and I think it’s what makes me a great writer.

Tomorrow is not only pub day for THE MOTHER-IN-LAW BOOK CLUB, but for these two novels, as well.

✨BACK WHERE WE STARTED is a second chance romance about two high school sweethearts who find their way back to one another over a holiday season and need to decide if they’re up for being in each others worlds again. I’ll be in conversation with @beccamfreeman next month at Quail Ridge Books to chat about this perfect romance!

✨ I NEVER KNEW YOU AT ALL by @cpride and @jopiazzaauthor is a propulsive, thought-provoking book about race, marriage, and who gets to tell stories, keep secrets and be believed. I read it in a day and can’t stop thinking about it.

When Andi overhears two boomer women on a flight complaining about their daughters-in-law, months of pent-up frustration come spilling out in the form of some very unsolicited—and very heated—advice. Awkward? Absolutely. But after a truce over coffee, Marilyn does the unexpected and invites Andi to her book club. What starts as a temporary stint in Durham soon fills up with a feisty circle of seventy-something friends, an unexpected romance, and the kind of found family that makes Andi wonder if the life she never planned for might actually be the one she wants.

Kate Hash can do no wrong. I absolutely adored her debut, GRACIE HARRIS IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, and this sophomore novel is just as emotionally astute and poignantly warm.

It takes a lot for women’s fiction to completely win me over because I can sometimes get restless with the slower-moving relationship dynamics- but I flew through this! Not only is it a wonderfully paced, relatable story about starting over, there’s also a whirlwind romance that somehow perfectly captures what it looks like to show up as your full self from the very beginning.

And honestly, the romance is only one piece of what makes Durham start to feel like home. There’s an intergenerational found family, spunky boomer women, a nerdy and charming Duke professor, successful careers, and the kind of unexpected relationships that quietly rearrange your life.

If you love layered personal growth, unlikely friendships, new beginnings, and warm wit, place your library holds now for when this releases.

Also: Brittany Pressley is masterful on the audiobook- you’re going to want this one in every available format.

What I loved:
the writing—I’ll read anything Kate Hash writes
intergenerational found family
he’s nerdy and charming
they both have successful careers (she’s a business consultant, he’s a Duke professor)
the fun intergenerational energy of BECAUSE I SAID SO, despite very different tropes and plot
meandering through the fall season
Durham somehow feeling like a small town
spunky boomer ladies

There’s so much to love about Flyleaf Books here in Chapel Hill, but the staff being willing to play this fun little game with me is definitely toward the top of the list. How much have *you* spent at your favorite bookstore?

Shoutout to fellow local author @elfaison (author of SKIN CONTACT) who was minding her own business while picking up a book and got roped into taking part. Also, we must acknowledge and admire Char’s spending habits. 👑

This has been a prolific reading year for me and only after putting together this video did I realize how varied my choices have been! Fiction, non-fiction, weird litfic, romcoms, memoirs, and everything in between.

30+ books including some not pictured because they are on loan to friends or buried somewhere in my house! Did you spot any of your favorites?
