TW: This video depicts kidnapping/gender-based violence
🌑
Midnight Confessions by The Grass Roots was released in 1968. This song has remained for me an addictive and catchy tune, but I love the melancholy lyrical dissonance within the peppy melody. I casually suggested covering it with a group of local San Diego musicians a few years ago. We took inspiration from grunge and goth rock. I love singing this one live.
🌑
I paired my rendition with footage from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). This film is widely known as a foundational psychological horror film that embodies German Expressionism and conveys the people's frustration with a Post WWI Europe.
🌑
The "twist" ending we know today was not the intended conclusion. Due to the extreme morbidity, cynicism, and political critique embedded in the original tragic ending, producers insisted upon a more reassuring way to resolve the intense trauma in the story. Dr. Caligari becomes in reality a psychiatric doctor and not a demented carnival hypnotist.
🌑
In my edit, I focused on the distressed damsel Jane who is fought over by the two male protagonists, kidnapped by Cesare, and in the film's reality a detached inpatient with fantasies of grandeur.
🌑
Trauma does not only affect those who go to war; civilians, women, and children are forever scarred during conflict. Jane symbolizes the collective loss of innocence, the most vulnerable subjected to institutionalization and brutality, and the object of desire that is chewed up and spat out of the cognitive-dissonance-generating Great War Machine.

I wrote Ghost Queen (2023) to pay homage to my decades-long fascination with disembodied heads. The song's narrator is pleading a special someone to accompany her through a transmutation. She desires deeply to become a serene, floating cranium. No body? No problems.

In preparation for a 2025 live performance I edited together choice segments from Alla Nazimova's silent film version of Salomé (1922-1923). Nazimova starred in, choreographed, produced, and co-directed this avant-garde take on the beheading of St. John the Baptist.
✨️
Nazimova was inspired by Aubrey Beardsley's illustrations (found in Oscar Wilde's 1894 Salomé theatrical playtext). Aubrey Beardsley created many astounding works of visual beauty before he was unjustly exiled to Paris, dying of tuberculosis at the tender age of 25.

Very Dozed chronicles the willful disappearance into a parallel dimension awaiting in one's dreams and nightmares. I had been living alone for many months during the pandemic and was quarantining myself most days. The news of the outside world was often too overwhelming, and I was usually having very vivid dreams.
🏚
A few years later, Matt Carpowich graciously donated his skills on drums/guitar/bass & recording. I wrote this song completely on my own and had made a demo, but Matt helped me transform the sketch into a more grandiose composition. I dictated to Matt how I wanted every part to sound while considering his suggestions. Final mastering was provided by the inimitable Ira Ingber.
🏚
I used my Roland JD-Xi to mimic an organ sound and add ambience. I sang the vocals in Matt's apartment studio, so they came out softer than normal. The gentle singing supports the overall mood of the song, I think. It is one of the few vocal recordings I won't be redoing as I publish these tracks on instagram.
🏚
I used footage from La maison ensorcelée ('The Ensorcelled House' aka 'The House of Ghosts' or 'The Witch House'), a 1907 French trick film directed by Segundo de Chomón. Chomón is still known as Spain's pre-eminent silent film director. He was a pioneering master of stop-motion animation and was hired by France's largest film production company to rival the works of the now legendary Georges Méliès.

Chrissy Amphlett has gotten me through the roughest times of my life. Her lyrics, vocal mastery, sultry style, raw power, and stage presence made her the definition of a rock n' roll leading lady.
🪐
"Science Fiction" was named one of the best songs to ever come out of Australia, and for me it is an anthem that draws from somewhere else. I can remember myself singing along to it at different times and feeling seen in new ways every time it came back around.
🪐
It still bums me out that people tried to diminish her because of "I Touch Myself", even though that is actually a succinctly poetic devotional love song that put her band on the map, finally. Dying too soon of cancer did nothing to make the top 100 list arbiters more grateful for all she gave.
🪐
I also recommend you check out Divinyls' song "Casual Encounter" because there isn't a better tune about telling off a strange man for making unwanted advances. Basically, I tried a new lipstick color and thought it looked nice, and now I'm here talking about one of the most underrated musicians ever. by @katekoremuzak

Big Ass Saturday courtesy of @creepitrealoc and @irelands32pub

Creep It Real has such a "creepy but friendly" vibe with lots of neat attractions. I was too entertained to capture all the best bits. Adorable pups in costumes, rad vendors, delicious food, and fun décor. Word of the day was "ramshackle", though the festival was anything but. If you sat in the picnic area you found yourself in a sonic weather front where the piped-in vintage songs clashed with the live band in a perfectly imperfect way.

jackiO shredded as per usual, but I wanted to enjoy the music more than take video. They play rockin' tunes out of the goodness of their hearts. We are so spoiled. Got home at 6:30am because I played it safe and took a nap halfway through (not while driving).

Another instrumental interlude paired with a silent movie...This time it's the French trick film 'La Barbe!' (1905). The found footage just keeps getting older!

The original track is longer (around 2.5 minutes). When thinking what to call it, I thought of "hold music" one would hear trapped on an interdimensional communication line, hence Dimesional Hold. This poor sap seems to be stuck in some Twilight Zone himself.

Last year (2025), I played a gig showcasing my original music, and I edited all my backing tracks to play alongside vintage film footage. Between songs, I placed my short instrumental ideas. This ditty was originally called "Planet Derp", but it goes well with 1915 Alice In Wonderland's Animal Convention scene. 1915! Can you believe it? Alice Through the Looking Glass is one of my top favorite books, and I seriously recommend checking out the annotated version, as it explains all the chess board moves and political parodies.

Today I wrote a one-minute instrumental experiment. Decided to pair it with my favorite horror film: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. I studied the making of this film in college and discovered through my research that the ending was not the intended conclusion. I still wish that Robert Wiene, Hanz Janowitz, and Carl Mayer could have seen their disturbing, original vision come to life!

Excerpt from the Oinga Boinga Sexytime Activity Book
(2014)
KateBot started off as a joke between a coworker and I at my first job out of college. He was very openly flamboyant, and called himself The Duchess of Queen's Landing. Our fictional HBO show was "KateBot and the Duchess." Every morning, he would ask me what I had been up to the night before. He was amazed by my alert morning vibes even after late nights of band practice and going to wrestling shows. This and my methodical work ethic//5-star phone etiquette earned me the name KateBot.
⚡️🤖⚡️
In Oinga Boinga, KateBot the SexBot SexPot of the 6th Dimension had a hard time dealing with sudden glitches of humon emotion. She was in charge of initiating "sexytime" for our cover of Violent Love. She sang lead on No One Lives Forever, which was a tried and true show closer. She invented the "floppy fish hand" keyboard technique, and always took a "karate chop solo" during Forbidden Zone...What I'm trying to say is that I karate chopped a micro korg accurately, somehow.
⚡️🤖⚡️
IRL, I was listening to Boingo songs and deciphering how to simplify their complex arrangements for a punk outfit with no guitar or horns (unless you count kazoos as a horn of sorts). I love KateBot, and I miss her sometimes.

Beep boop.
