POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’m so happy to finally share another video from my EP release last year, Songs from the Body!

This time it’s a piece that isn’t on the EP, and in fact it’s only ever been sung and performed once - at this concert! It’s called “Anemone” and is built around this funny vocal technique of tapping the larynx.

I composed this piece for 5 voices with the amazing vocal group @howl_london specifically in mind, and was super grateful to have four members of the band perform it live with me. They did such an amazing job, in fact, the only person who made a mistake and forgot to sing a part was me! 😂

I really hope I can get to record this piece of music and perform it live again. In fact, if any of you are intrigued and want to sing it, get in touch - I have the sheet music!

To listen to the whole piece, visit the youtube link in my bio and in the comments. I hope you enjoy it - let me know what it makes you think of!

*reposting with the vertical format for phones ;)

Folks, it’s been officially one year (actually technically one year and 6 days) since I released my first EP and put on a massive 12 singer live immersive performance of my music, Songs from the Body.

One year. And what a year. To be honest, I’m really grateful for the distance. After a crazy 2023 of trying to get this music out on the stage, 2024 has been about work work work, building up the resources and the headspace to start the next attempt.

But before I do that, let’s celebrate! Here’s a beautiful trailer that the talented Hatem of @vita.productions created. I really feel it captures the vitality and joy in that room. I continue to hear from friends who bring up how much they loved the show. Here’s some more quotes from audience members -

“An aesthetic experience to inhabit”

“The world needs more of exactly this”

“The culmination of life, art, and practice”

Once again, a big thank you to everyone who was involved and helped make Songs from the Body a reality. It was an honour.

I will be releasing this track - Seeds - next year as part of my first ever EP, Songs from the Body. Here is a little trailer giving you a sneak preview of what it sounds like.

Seeds is a poetic epic of the life cycle of a seed. Composed for 6 voices and movement, this recording was made with my own voice, supplemented by the superb duo @benseesings and @domstich (thank you gents!), with gorgeous production by @david.ridley25.

To release this song into the world, I need to do final mastering, art work and video. We are then going to perform it live at gigs in both London and Lisbon. I need your help to accomplish all of this!

If you like what you hear, why not pre-order Seeds or buy your ticket to a show? Every little bit of support helps, thank you!!!

Link is in my bio xx

‘Jacob’s Beanbag’ was born in West Wales last year. We love the spacey parallel harmony that makes us feel like we’re floating.

We love the sun on our face even when it’s cold.

What if?
Is the ultimate questions. What could we create?

Looking forward to dreaming up worlds with you on our European Tour in November.

Somewhere in the countryside in Bologna, Italy, we heard some dogs having a right ol’ laugh and thought, oh hey let us sing with you dear souls.

It started off with them as one of the voices and they got more and more dense and singy through the piece to the point of us being the listeners and them devising the composition without us silly humans.

We are Oöm

- a dynamic vocal quartet of artists and performance makers from across the UK and Europe: Kate Mellors, Kate Smith, Emma Coleman, and Phoebe Martha.

Our music draws upon a deep passion for vocal improvisation and musical mastery, blending complex rhythms and rich harmonies with a penchant for provocative, irreverent playfulness and soulful storytelling - where the tender meets the ridiculous. This unique blend of vocal mastery and down-to-earth tomfoolery takes audiences on a captivating journey.

And now we are coming to a city near you. Possibly. Maybe. Probably not… but for a lucky few - anyone in or near Lyon, Paris, Brussels, Utrecht or London - that means you can come to see our new show, WELCOME TO THE PARTY!

Links to tickets are in the bio. See you there :)

20/11 - BRUSSELS (with Labophonique!)
21/11 - UTRECHT (with Koholā!)

Welcome to the Party - spontaneous song, story, and silliness

YOU, yes You, are cordially invited into the world of Oöm, for a heart-warming, heart-wrenching, and ultimately heart-expanding journey of four voices improvising their way through spontaneous song, story, and the bizarre miracle of being here, alive, together, in all our humanness. Come on in! Join the party.

Expertly mixing audience participation with technical mastery of the voice, moments of clowning with spine-tingling beauty, Welcome to the Party is performed by a quartet of four vocal improviser artist-facilitators, Emma Coleman, Kate Mellors, Phoebe Martha and Kate Smith.

Combining storytelling, vocal improvisation, and physical theatre, the performance invites us into the intricacies of our personal stories, sharing memories from the past, and turning life into song. Every moment is a gift, or maybe….?

With debut performances at Le Cercle Enchante in August 2025, audiences are raving about this stunning show, saying “impeccable vocals - we couldn’t tell it was improvised”, “so touching, just what I needed”, “these women are powerhouses, and so silly to boot!”

Come on in! Join the party. Take home a balloöm.
