I am deeply thrilled to share that earlier this summer, the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts acquired several pieces of my work for this season’s Young Portfolio Exhibition, and that I was able to attend the opening reception at the museum just over a week ago✈️

From over 335 photographers all over the world, 22 of us were selected to display our work this year. It is a profound honor to have our work chosen by the jurors for this season: Michiko Kan, Rika Noguchi, and Masato Seto. I feel incredibly humbled to exhibit alongside the other incredible artists selected this year. Our work will become a part of the museum's archives and will travel to several other galleries in Japan.

This is the first time I've had the opportunity to attend one of the international shows I've contributed to, and the experience was truly special to me. While the Internet is a valuable resource, nothing compares to the real-world connections with people and fellow artists. Of the 22 selected, 13 of us were present at the reception, where we all shared brief artist statements about ourselves and our work. Listening to the messages and intentions behind each artist's photos was infinitely inspiring.

I can't believe that some of my work has found its home in such a beautiful space, and I'm incredibly excited about the new relationships I've formed through this experience.

Wrote a short essay on this past year in AFMPIII.

Everyone entered the program with varying needs and desires, and I think all of us have grown so much, taking different lessons from our time together. Can’t believe how quickly a year passes! All my love and gratitude to my peers and our mentors for their time and attention 💌

Sometimes, I like to imagine the composition of my body is like that of a seal: hours in the water before I get cold. I used to wear wetsuits for every dive before I realized that I could go without, and preferred it, even. To be as bare as possible. Cold water calls to me like a siren song and I go willingly and so, so gladly. Maybe it stems from a childhood spent swimming in glacial waters, maybe from sheer stubbornness. I’d accept either truth. While I was in Sweden, we built our days around taking a dip in whatever body of water was available. And though I loved them all with all my heart, I loved the coldest, best. 9C swims in the Baltic, I brought my mask in and dove down into green-tinted seas that made my very bones ache. I dream of the darkened North Sea with giant rock formations arching from surface like the great beast from folktales. I want to be one of those beasts.
