🔥Opening in 3 weeks at IA&A Hillyer in Washington, DC!🔥
Harbingers is an immersive installation of organic, tattered fiber columns pierced by flame, suggesting a ghost forest in the aftermath of wildfire. Dozens of these forms, nearly 10 feet tall, are suspended from the ceiling, with paths through the installation inviting viewers to contemplate the impact of extreme weather patterns like drought and the fires that follow, not only on forests but on human survival.

DM me if you are planning a trip to DC and want more details now!

Harbingers is an immersive installation of thirty charred linen-gauze sculptures conjuring a ghostly forest in the aftermath of wildfire🔥. I finished this work in sadness this summer as smoke from wildfires raging across the stunning Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota and Canada drifted through the Midwest and on to the East Coast. Harbingers opens Friday, October 2, 6 - 8 pm.

The exhibition is my second in Washington, D.C. I am excited to return with this new work! The exhibition runs through November 29, so if you are in the area or traveling, I hope you will mark your calendars. Hillyer is located in Dupont Circle, just north of the National Mall.

Entanglements, included in the Arts + Literature Laboratory 10th Anniversary Retrospective, opening Friday, September 18, 6–8 pm, through November 7.

Miles of root-like twine reach down into flasks of water collected from local rivers, circling a suspended tree. The water evaporates the way it would from a forest — drawn up through roots, exhaled from the canopy, returned to the soil by rain. 🌳s, like humans are vulnerable to excessive rain and drought.

Several of my scroll drawings will be on view at Groveland Gallery in the group exhibition "Trees: Homage to Foliage." From towering forest sentinels to intimate woodland paths, the work in this exhibition celebrates the uplifting, life-sustaining, and elegant presence of trees. This exhibition explores the remarkable variety of forms, colors, and atmospheres found in landscapes throughout the changing seasons.

A reception will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, 2:00–5:00 pm. The exhibition will remain on view through October 17, 2026.

I started making these drawings so that I could work on a tree scale in a studio where the walls could not accommodate ten-foot-tall work. I love the scroll format because the drawings can be exhibited in homes like mine with 8-foot ceilings and in galleries with much higher ceilings -- just roll to fit the space! I used a rubbing technique to record the specific leaves from a single tree, documenting its temporary presence on our earth. I primarily focused on trees endangered by climate change and other environmental stresses.
