I’m so excited to dive into these both - I loved the first books in both of these series! Grim Tidings in particular I’ve been excited for since the plot was revealed!

This time of year always screams Rachel Gillig to me as well - her books always give me such dark, autumnal vibes. I enjoyed The Knight and the Moth a lot and am excited to see what’s next for these characters.

I’m looking for more fall/autumn recs - particularly romcoms or light hearted reads if you have them! Please let me know ❤️ by @katiesbookmarks

Long time no see, #bookstagram! ❤️

It’s been a long summer and I’ve been so busy. I traveled a bit, I had SEVERAL summer colds (🫠) and my mental health has struggled as well. It’s safe to say I’m very glad to be turning the page to October in a few days!!

I’ve also been in such a reading slump. I think I only finished one book in September, but I’m trying to be kind to myself and just read when I feel like it and read what makes me happy.

On the positive side, I have a few book club picks I’m looking forward to as well as trying to get back into my TBR. These are the three I’ve been recommended to start with!

I hope the late summer has been kinder to you all and I hope autumn is a gentle, restorative season for us all!

Happy reading 😘

MINI REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison!

From the blurb: “Two competing meteorologists are forced to find common ground in this opposites attract, When Harry Met Sally inspired romance.”

I really enjoyed the next installment of the Heartstrings series! I don’t think I quite loved this one as much as the first book, but I found the honest conversations and the realizations that both of them were attracted to each other longer than they wanted to admit really satisfying to read. Some of the middle of the book was slow in my opinion, but this was still a fun rom com about opposites attracting and learning to accept the love and friendship that comes our way.

This was an excellent beach read!

It’s me, your once-per-month #booksta friend, apparently 🤷‍♀️😵‍💫

Hey pals! It’s been a super busy summer in my house and I’ve been lucky enough to do some traveling, unlucky enough to get two jury duty summons in one week 🙄

My nephew also turned one last weekend and this week I am away on my annual beach week once again! We are thinking of our Canadian neighbors up in northern MI as the wildfire smoke is still pretty thick, but I’m trying to make the most of some time off work to sit back and enjoy reading and doing nothing.

#QOTD: what genres do you enjoy in the summer? I read a few thrillers recently (None of This is True and Julie Chan is Dead) and find I mostly just like a quick fun read no matter the genre.

Hope you’re all staying safe and healthy this summer. To my midwest friends, I hope you’re parasite free (IYKYK) and finally getting to breathe some clean air. To my Canadian pals I am sending the best vibes and hope for some rain and favorable winds soon and the end to a horrendous fire season. Lots of love from across the border! by @katiesbookmarks

Long time no see, #bookstagram! I don’t really have any good excuses for being so sporadic with my posting. I’ve been reading a fair amount and lurking on booksta even more, but I fear I’ve just lost interest in social media lately.

Summer has been busy for me so far and work has been even busier which has made me sort of lose interest in my hobbies, but I’m going to attempt to be more active and interact with everyone again!

Here’s a lil review from me out of my May reading:

“There are occasions when losing is a victory, so long as there is a fight.”

4⭐️ to An Officer and a Spy! This was a really riveting tale about espionage, betrayal, and the miscarriage of justice in 1890s France. I was dimly aware of The Dreyfuss Affair before this, but the author did such a great job of setting the scene and making this tale come to life. The book was excellently paced and I found some of the recurring themes really satisfying when they all came together.

The book does a really good job of making you feel frustrated and infuriated along with the characters as you see the miscarriage of justice happening in real time, then go back in time to realize how much deeper it actually goes, and then are flung back to the present to watch the verdict being handed down.

The book also carries a message of antisemitism and how that informed so many political decisions in this time. It was pretty uncomfortable to read, but necessary to understand the through line that connects the past to the unfortunate present that we’re living through all across the globe today. by @katiesbookmarks

Thrifting haul! I’ve been talking to so many of you about wanting to thrift more books. Better for the environment (and my wallet) and there’s something really endearing about a copy you can tell was well loved by someone else.

Last night I went to @bookstockmi - a huge used media sale and got some really great finds! This sale has been going on for over 20 years and it was really well attended. The proceeds support literacy programs in the metro Detroit area.

Calling all nerds 🤓📚

I don’t know about you, but I love learning! Besides the homework, I sort of miss being in school just for the experience of learning something new and cool. The great part about being an adult is I can choose what I want to learn about!

Here are some #nonfiction picks I grabbed recently:

🍃 The Planter of Modern Life: Louis Bromfield and the Seeds of a Food Revolution by Stephen Heyman is a biography of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Louis Bromfield, focusing on his transformation into a pioneering organic farmer and early environmentalist. The book details how Bromfield used his literary success to create an influential experimental farm, Malabar, in Ohio, which became a hub for sustainable agriculture and a retreat for celebrities, laying groundwork for the modern organic food movement.

🗡️ Book and Dagger by Elyse Graham tells the story of how the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) recruited academics, librarians, and other humanities scholars to become spies during WWII, using their research skills for intelligence gathering, which helped shape modern espionage and post-war higher education.

I’m excited to dive into these and learn something new! I especially want to read more about agricultural and environmental issues - if anyone has any recs, send em my way!

Pretty book appreciation post 🤗

Happy Monday #booksta! It’s been a busy few weeks with life stuff and just generally trying to get myself together as we get into the second quarter of the year!

I spent some time organizing my bookshelves recently and was reminded of these two on my TBR shelf - they’re so pretty! Both foiled covers and lovely sprayed edges (swipe to see)!

This week is pretty quiet but I’ve got a few book clubs coming up so I’m reading a few books at once:

📖 Tomorrow, And Tomorrow, And Tomorrow
📖 The Lies of Locke Lamora
📖 An Army at Dawn
🎧 Sisters in Science

What are you reading this week?

This post is brought to you by a brief moment of sunshine coming through my windows, and a few new books that I’ve picked up over the last two weeks.

Hello #bookstagram! it’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted, and I wish I had some exciting reason why that’s happened but in reality I’ve just been busy at work. Though I have kept up with my reading goal this year so far, I just haven’t had as much time as I’d like to chat with you all.

I’m very excited for spring to finally be here. It’s been so cold in Michigan and this has felt like an exceptionally long winter. We’ve had a few days in the last few weeks that have been warm and sunny but more cold days. I’m really looking forward to being able to sit outside with my dogs and read on the deck as the weather gets warmer!

I saw @caitlins.bookshelf do this tag from @nothing.beats.a.good.book - and I haven’t done a fun Booksta tag in such a long time!

Here goes (is it cheating if I combined two prompts? 😂):

A book with “two” in the title: Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig 👑

The second book in a series you haven’t finished yet: The West Wind by Alexandria Warwick 🌬️

A book with a form of communication on the cover (for Time to Talk day): First Time Caller by BK Borison 📞

A red book (for Valentine’s Day) AND A book with a pet on the cover (for Love Your Pet day): Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez 🐶❤️

The shortest book you have (as Feb is the shortest month): Tilt by Emma Pattee 🫨

QOTD: what’s your pick for any of these questions? Hope you’re all having a good February, friends!

Oh man, guys. What can I say. Every time I post it’s like “it’s been 84 years” from Titanic. Life got so busy! January is always a busy month at work + I had a birthday. The bad: I got the stomach flu. It’s been SO cold and snowy. Seasonal affective disorder has been disordering.

BUT! I had a good reading month last month when I read 9 books to kick off the year. So far I haven’t finished a book in Feb yet but I’m back at my bad habits and reading a few at once!

Today I listened to the audiobook for The Jasad Heir while I drove around and I’m making progress with a new nonfiction on my Kindle (Midnight Flyboys).

Today’s reading was fueled by @tuscannorthville where I got some work done for a few hours and snuck in a few minutes of reading 🤗

Coffee and (recently) reading ☕️📚

Hi friends! I don’t have a physical copy of my current read, so here’s two books I very recently read. These fulfill my 2 “off my tbr” per month books for January!

These were both 3.5⭐️ reads for me but were enjoyable! Great or Nothing is a Little Women retelling set during WWII, and Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade is set during WWI and follows the true story of Jessie Carson, a NY librarian who goes to France to help rebuild rural areas during the war.

Special shoutout to @drink.surrup for making my coffees lately - the drink here is an iced latte using their white chocolate peppermint syrup! 😋
