Before Telly Justice (@oatmeal_goth) became a Food & Wine Best New Chef and co-owner of HAGS (@hags_nyc), she played drums in a self-described “terrible grunge band” called Skaz at all-ages shows where her parents bought everyone pizza. I'm packing to move, and feeling weirdly tender about the version of myself who bought these shoes 30 years ago when I moved to New York. I was so broke and scared all the time, and desperate to feel like an adult, and I thought maybe if I had some "grown up" heels and a suit (awful, cheap, polyester), I could trick myself into believing I was one. My roommate was mean about them, made some comment about who did I think I was. As you can see, I wore them into the ground, and I finally let them go tonight, after thanking them for helping me get to today. I still don't feel like a grown up much of the time, but now I know I can take care of me, and also her. by @katkinsman
