Last summer I found this mangled tennis ball and knew I would eventually dream up some radical repair… it only took a year to get to it. But here’s my first hack at it!

I made a rubber band ball with yarn and thread scraps as the core. Once it filled the space, I started darning with a mix of three threads - a smooth wool, a mohair, and a nylon serger thread. I now realize I took zero in process darning photos. Dang.

My favorite part is that it bounces. Maybe I’ll test it out in the tennis courts.

And talk it up like yeah (yeah).

I celebrated the occasion with permanence - a custom tattoo by @tattoosbyclover . Being included in this incredible exhibition curated by @celiapym and Kathryn Gremley @penlandgallery is beyond my wildest dreams when I started my journey into mending almost 13 years ago. This chair represents so much more than the technical aspects of the work - it was lost, and then found- broken, and then repaired- left behind, and then loved again. A lot like myself. This chair represents hope and my own journey through difficult times - and finding myself in the process.

It’s never too late to begin again.

My October calendar is full of MENDING events and I could not be happier about it.

Saturday, October 3rd - private mending workshop

Sunday, October 4th - @memphislibrary Repair Café (I’ll be volunteering at the clothing repair station) Benjamin Hooks Library, 1:30-4pm

Wednesday, October 7th - Mends With Frends @fiveinonesocialclub (we will be celebrating 3 years of #mendswithfrends !)

Thursday, October 15th - Film Screening, “Can Everything Be Mended” (@chuckbluelowry + @breaks_and_joins) followed by a participatory mending session (organized by @uofm_fogelman.galleries)**

Saturday, October 17th - International Repair Day + Mending workshop @fiveinonesocialclub (tickets still available!)

Mending is Love, for me, and the world could sure use a lot more of that right now.

**sadly the gallery exhibition “Care, Not Cure” had to be postponed to Spring 2027 due to construction delays — but the film screening and mending session will still be happening as planned!

Prepping for a very big workshop for 36 new menders!

I’ve considered creating these kits for educators to use in their classrooms - including all materials, a lesson plan, and guide with tips. If you are an educator, would you be interested in something like this? Or is it better to have someone like me come to your classroom to teach a lesson? I’m thinking about middle school through college age students, as well as adult continuing education.

Curious what teachers might be interested in/able to do with something like this. by @katrinaperdue

I’ve been collecting vintage needlebooks for awhile, but today I came across one that may be my favorite design yet (first image).

Many are in rough shape and the needles fall out easily, so I keep them in a closed box most of the time. Today I decided I should start scanning them so I can create a digital image catalog and look at the designs more often. Aren’t they fun?!
