Magellan and his crew had to sit on mats (banig) and ate food that is likely pork humba or ginisa, served in platters meant for sharing.
Cebuanos and all native South East Asians did not use tables back then. This is why we do not have a native word for it. The word "lamesa" is Spanish.
Food was served in porcelain plates where three to four people dine together and share the meal.
To this day, Thais, Maranaos, Maguindanaoans, as well as Tausugs and other lumads still practice sitting on mats and eating with bare hands.
