화환 2025 / 포맥스 위 스프레이(스텐실) / 165cm x 110cm 2025 / Spray(Stencil) on PVC Foam Board / 165cm x 110cm 작품설명: 이 작업은 한국의 일상적인 시각 문화인 '개업 축하 화환'을 스트릿 아트의 대표적인 작업 방식인 스텐실로 표현함으로써 스트릿 아트의 로컬라이징을 시도하고 있다. 작품의 외형은 새로운 시작과 번영을 기원하는 가장 한국적이고 규격화된 축하의 형식인 기존 화환을 닮아 있다. 그러나 작품은 리본에 새겨진 문구를 통해 축하가 아닌, 거리 문화의 뿌리를 기억하고 다짐하는 선언을 담아낸다. 또한, '그래피티 인 부산'이라는 문구는 한때 부산의 거리에서 치열하게 활동했지만, 지금은 사라진 그래피티 커뮤니티의 이름이다. 이 이름은 구체적인 장소성을 의미하는 것과 함께, 익명의 예술가들이 도시의 벽면에 남긴 창조의 흔적과 낭만을 상징한다. This work attempts the localization of street art by utilizing the Stencil technique—a representative method of street art—to depict the 'Grand Opening Congratulatory Wreath', an integral part of Korean daily visual culture. The artwork's exterior resembles the traditional wreath, which is the most Korean and standardized form of celebration, symbolizing new beginnings and prosperity. However, the piece uses the inscription on the ribbon to convey a declaration of remembering and pledging to the roots of street culture, rather than mere congratulation. Furthermore, the phrase 'Graffiti in Busan' is the name of a graffiti community that was once active on the streets of Busan but has since dissolved. This name signifies both a specific sense of place and symbolizes the creative traces and romance left behind by anonymous artists on the city's walls. photo: @haitai_life by @kay2kr

<하청의 젠가> 종이박스 설치,스텐실) / 가변크기 / 2025 상품을 보호하는 껍데기에 불과한 종이박스가 아슬아슬하게 수직 구조로 쌓여있다. 이 작업은 젠가(Jenga) 게임의 불완전한 균형을 차용하여, '하청의 하청의 하청'으로 이어지는 기형적인 산업 피라미드를 형상화했다. 산업 물류의 기본 단위인 종이박스라는 소재가 가진 가벼운 물성은 현재 자본 구조가 은폐하는 시스템의 허술함을 상징한다. 오로지 위를 향해 높게만 쌓여있는 젠가 탑의 실체가 서로에게 책임을 떠넘기는 위태로운 떠받침에 불과하다는 사실을 직시하게 함으로써, 화려함과 편리함 뒤에 가려진 노동의 불안과 구조적 모순의 현실을 선명하게 드러내고 있다. <Jenga System> Cardboard Box, Stencil / Variable Size / 2025 The work utilizes cardboard boxes, mere casings designed to protect consumer goods, stacked precariously into a vertical structure. By borrowing the imperfect equilibrium of the Jenga game, the installation visualizes the grotesque industrial pyramid that perpetuates the cycle of ‘subcontract of subcontract of subcontract.’ The inherent lightness and fragility of the cardboard—a fundamental unit of logistics—symbolize the fundamental weakness of the system currently concealed by the capital structure. By compelling the viewer to confront the reality that this towering structure, built only to reach higher, is merely a precarious foundation of mutually deferred responsibility, the piece vividly reveals the latent labor anxiety and the structural contradictions obscured behind the façade of convenience and glamour. photo: @haitai_life by @kay2kr

<SHOW MUST GO ON> Light Panel on Wood Sculpture, 240cm x 240cm x 50cm, 2025. SHOW MUST GO ON은 단순한 그래피티 작품을 넘어, ”쇼는 계속되어야 한다“는 명제를 삶과 창작 활동에 대한 투쟁적인 의지로 치환하며, 고난 앞에서 멈추지 않겠다는 예술가 집단의 굳건한 결의를 시각화한 작업이다. 작품의 가장 중요한 미학적 특징은 협력(Collaboration)에 있다. 투병 중인 작가를 향한 응원에서 출발한 이 작업은 그래피티 특유의 공동체 문화를 기반으로 12인의 아티스트가 핵심 메시지인 ”S-H-O-W-M-U-S-T-G-O-O-N“의 한 글자씩을 맡아 완성했다. 이러한 방식은 그래피티 라이터가 자신의 필체와 개성을 드러내는 방식을 존중하면서도, 하나의 프로젝트에 기여하는 협업의 전통을 효과적으로 보여준다. ”SHOW MUST GO ON“ More than a simple graffiti piece, ”SHOW MUST GO ON“ is a work that transforms the phrase ”The show must go on“ into a combative will toward life and creative activity, visualizing the unwavering resolve of a collective of artists to not halt in the face of adversity. The most critical aesthetic feature of the work lies in Collaboration. Originating as a form of support for an artist undergoing medical treatment, this project is based on the unique community culture of graffiti. Twelve artists each took charge of one letter in the core message, ”S-H-O-W-M-U-S-T-G-O-O-N,“ to complete the piece. This method effectively demonstrates the tradition of collaboration—contributing to a single project—while simultaneously respecting the way each graffiti writer showcases their individual handstyle and personality. <K2 Coin> Metal Coin, 6cm, Wall Display Case, Variable Size, 2025. 이 작품은 50개의 ‘코인’을 통해 현대 암호화폐(Crypto) 및 NFT 시장의 극단적인 희소성과 투기 심리를 재현하는 예술적 실험입니다. 코인을 구매하는 행위는 단순한 소유를 넘어, 가치가 폭등하는 이 시스템에 대한 초기 투자자가 되는 퍼포먼스이자, 작품의 최종 가격을 결정짓는 알고리즘에 참여하는 행위입니다. 이 코인은 법정 통화가 아닌, 현대 금융 투기 현상에 대한 예술적 코멘터리입니다. This artwork is an artistic experiment that recreates the extreme scarcity and speculative psychology of the modern cryptocurrency and NFT market through 50 ‘Coins’. The act of purchasing a Coin is more than mere ownership; it is a performance of becoming an initial investor in this system of skyrocketing value, and an act of participating in the algorithm that determines the artwork‘s final price. 오랜 시간 제작에 참여한 『스트릿 아티스트 구헌주 한국 거리예술의 사史적인 순간』 책이 곧 세상에 나올 준비를 하고 있습니다. 한국의 스트리트아트와 그래피티 씬은 서구권에 비해 규모가 작습니다. 문화에 대한 이해와 환경적 한계로 인해 공공 커미션 형태로만 부분적으로 드러나는 경우가 많지만, 그 안에서도 장식적인 상업벽화와는 뚜렷하게 구분되는 ‘작가주의적 벽화’가 분명히 존재합니다. 구헌주 작가 aka Kay2는 지난 20년간 이러한 작가주의 벽화를 꾸준히 그려온 대표적인 스트릿 아티스트입니다. 이번에 출간되는 『스트릿 아티스트 구헌주 한국 거리예술의 사史적인 순간』 비평집 2권은 한 작가의 20년 활동 기록을 넘어, 한국 그래피티 씬을 전반적으로 이해하는 데 유용한 가이드이자, 한국 공공미술과 스트리트 아트에 대한 입문서로도 읽힐 수 있는 책입니다. 사회학, 미술사, 작품 해제 등 각기 다른 관점을 가진 8명의 필진이 참여해 구헌주 작업을 다층적으로 조명하는 동시에, 한국 스트릿 아트의 드문 인디 씬을 들여다볼 수 있는 시각을 제공합니다. by @kay2kr
