Happy Chuseok! 🙇🏻‍♀️ It’s been such a hot and humid summer. It is really alarming to imagine our future with more extreme weathers. How to address this urgent global issue… How to survive together with many other species… 🫠 The genocide of Palestinian people has not ceased. Politicians are far behind the people’s will and action to do something about it. The only humanity left is the Palestinian people’s continuing resilience and love 🇵🇸 Despite it all, I always find strength in old and new friends and family. Past two months, they filled my life with stimulating conversations, laughter, care, and of course, art. How to share the gift that I received is another question, but for now I’m sending out 💖 to ya’ll from Jeju 🏝️

I enjoy imagining stories to match the interaction between this delightful wall in Busan by @kay2kr and passersby. Swipe ⬅️ to see another ‘story’. 2023 한-아세안 문화혁신 공동협력 프로젝트 2023 ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Project for Innovative Culture Grant <심해 춤판 - 한국과 베트남의 언더그라운드 아트 씬 연구 Dancing in the Deep Current: Research into the underground art scene in South Korea and Vietnam> *한국어 번역은 아래 코멘트 참고 “Dancing in the Deep Current” is inspired by the massive deep-sea current, slowly and constantly, circulating throughout the entire earth. Next Door to the Museum and Heritage Space considers the underground art scene as the deep ocean current in the field of art and culture. Let’s recall the 3-year-long COVID-19 pandemic and the harm it inflicted upon art and cultural activities around the world. During that time, all large-scale events hosted and funded by the government or major institutions, such as museum shows, biennales, and art fairs, have been reduced, postponed, or canceled. This revealed the great fragility of art institutions. Despite it all, art and culture persisted. What is the source of this sustainability and resilience in art and cultural activities? It is our hypothesis that underground art (independent art projects), namely, art that exists outside the institution is what kept us going. Art outside the institution is relatively flexible in implementing creative and alternative methodologies when facing a crisis. For example, we can think of the countless local and regional art collectives presented at the 2022 Kassel Documenta, who continued their cultural, artistic, and educational activities throughout the pandemic. Another example can be the appearance of a new social media platform like the Clubhouse, where passionate international gatherings flourished during the heat of the pandemic. However, what we lack is an in-depth research and documentation of these important artistic activities in both South Korea and Vietnam. Therefore, 8 curators, critics, and artists from South Korea and Vietnam are invited to partake in the research project, “Dancing in the Deep Current”, to shed light upon the art and culture’s deep-sea activities. 후원: 국제문화교류진흥원, 문화체육관광부, 국민체육진흥공단 Sponsored by KOFICE, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation
