Gauley Fest 2026 🤩

The last time I was at Gauley Fest was in 2019, that was my first year kayaking. It was wonderful to experience this gathering again, and surely did not disappoint. Not only is the Upper Gauley an amazing run, it brings so many people together to celebrate the river and the friendships we’ve made together over the years. Thankful for this opportunity to reconnect and bring the Gauley full circle. So stoked to be a part of the @daggerkayaks team and spend time with so many amazing athletes on and off the water. A special thank you and shout out to @americanwhitewater for making this event happen year after year, and for all of the things they do for our rivers here in the USA.

White River Canyon was such an epic day and has left me tired, in awe, and most of all humbled. On the solstice, we put in about 10 miles downstream from the White River snow park on Mt. Hood. This exploratory run is extremely remote, is rarely done, and lays in a beautiful section of wilderness.

Our paddle started with meandering class 2 with over 6 log jam portages. Then the whitewater really kicked off with a 10ft ledge rapid that gave me maybe my worst swim to date. After a good beat down of about a minute I eventually swam and had about 60 seconds of getting body recirculated in the ledge hole before it finally let me go. Luckily my boat and paddle didn’t make it too far down stream thanks to @boofstroke and @vito.verdugo . The remainder of the run was extremely consistent and fun class 3 for the next 12 miles.

This day gave me a huge reminder. Even if you think it’s class 3, don’t get complacent. Take your time. Trust your crew. It’s always okay to scout. Remote wilderness runs are serious no matter the difficulty of whitewater. This was not a place to swim and a really bad place to lose gear. Overall we got really lucky with the scenario and were able to fully recover, making it out of there just 20 minutes shy of sunset.

It sure was a good time.. no a great time… no no what’s better than great?… it was grr grrr grrr GRAND!

Overly grateful for all the laughs, love, and friends on this trip. The Grand Canyon sure does hold a lot of magic. 10/10.

Thankful for our boat Havasu and clean lines, and especially thankful for the best copilot around @sandmanagerofcans.

Remember to wash your f*ng hands and has someone made sure @thomas_christgnar is all good on coffee?
