Yesterday was very intense, Ufuk our professional tiler took half a day off work to help us finish the grouting which was a lifesaver! @ugurmete91 & Fatih, after working until midnight the night before with Ufuk were back and did another long day working well into the night with the help of @rdldmrc painting the grout lines. I pitched in to help with the grout cleanup and all day long the Council team were there building a bench around the sculpture which means it’s now a seating place as well. We all hope that it will transform the square and create a new popular meeting place in the heart of Çanakkale right opposite the main market.
Final clean ups and touchups are happening this morning. The @canakkalebienal opens officially today and we start off at Troy Museum.

10. edisyonunda “Metcezir // Ebb & Flow” başlığıyla su, toprak, hafıza ve dönüşüm kavramlarının izini sürüyor.

🌊10 Ekim – 20 Kasım 2026 tarihleri arasında gerçekleşen bienal, 9 ülkeden 60’ın üzerinde sanatçıyı Çanakkale’den Troya’ya, Ayvacık’tan Adatepe’ye uzanan 15 farklı sergi ve etkinlik mekânında bir araya getiriyor.

🔷Bu yıl, 20. kuruluş yılını kutlayan Çanakkale Bienali İnisiyatifi CABININ’ın son yıllarda MAHAL ve StudioMAHAL merkezli olarak geliştirdiği uluslararası proje ve iş birliklerinin sanatsal çıktıları, Bienal kapsamında ilk kez bir arada izleyiciyle buluşuyor.

Bienal sergileri ve etkinlikler; Troya Müzesi’nden Balıkhane’ye, Adatepe Zeytinyağı Müzesi’nden Adatepe İda Blue otele, Korfman Kütüphanesi’nden, Güneşane Vakfı’na çok farklı mekanlara yayılıyor.

🌊Bienalin küratörlüğünü Deniz Erbaş, Ebru Nalan Sülün, Halil Yoleri, Loukia Thomopoulou, Seyhan Boztepe, Vince Briffa, Yasemin Ülgen ve Gu Zhenqing üstleniyor. Dardanel ve Kale Grubu – Kale Tasarım ve Sanat Merkezi bienalin ana destekçileri arasında.

Installation is underway! @canakkalebienal
It’s fantastic to be back here in Çanakkale
Super buzzy because of the biennial, lots of international artists here, everyone setting up their work ready for the big event on Saturday and I can vouch that the sea is definitely warmer here than in Brighton at the moment!
The @mahalsanat / Çanakkale biennial team are impressive to say the least, @ktsm_org @kalegrubu have done an amazing job making my tiles which look stunning, and thanks as usual to @turkeybritishcouncil

Designs of my sculpture for the 10th edition of the @canakkalebienal with the expert help of @prof.rustemaslan head of archaeology @troyexcavations ,@mertkaracikay and @ugurmete91 who created the 3D graphics, thank you all!
This is a permanent public realm sculpture for the city of Çanakkale sited next to the main marketplace in the centre of the city. I’m flying today to oversee the installation which has already started.
The opening of the Biennial is on the 10th of October.
Thank you to @deniz.erbas & @seyhanboztepe , the @mahalsanat team and all the amazing workers @ktsm_org @kalegrubu

At last the reveal:
This is the sculpture I have designed for the 10th edition of the @canakkalebienal with the expert help of @prof.rustemaslan head of archaeology @troyexcavations @mertkaracikay and @ugurmete91 who created the 3D graphics, thank you all!
This is a permanent public realm sculpture for the city of Çanakkale and is sited next to the main marketplace in the centre of the city. Installation has just started so if you’re nearby please post photos and tag me! I will be there on Monday to oversee the final touches of the installation
The opening of the Biennial is on the 10th of October.
