It was a great pleasure for me to take part in a woodfiring event in @longquanceramicresidency. We were firing kiln for 39 hours, reach the temperature 1300 and keep around for few hours. As the result we got nice and deep ash effects. Thank you Master @guanlun0926 it was a great honor I learned a lot. And thanks to all the artists who took part.

Residencies and the 52nd IAC Congress in Jingdezhen 2026 ✨

In the lead-up to the 52nd IAC Congress in Jingdezhen, the IAC Special Residencies Project brings together selected IAC artist members across seven residency centres in China.

From March/April to June 2026, 60 IAC artist members are invited to develop their own work in dialogue with local contexts, ceramic traditions, materials and communities. Rooted in the IAC’s mission to foster intercultural exchange and collaboration, this special initiative culminates in the IAC International Residencies Exhibition at the Taoxichuan Art Museum, presenting works created by each artist during their residency.

Within this exhibition, a dedicated section entitled Clay for Peace, proposed by IAC member Jacques Kaufmann, will present collaborative works created during the residencies by IAC members working together, or with Chinese IAC members and local artists.

The Longquan Wangou, Taoxichuan Art Center, located in Longquan, Zhejiang Province, is at the heart of the “World Capital of Celadon”. Rooted in the city’s renowned celadon and sword cultural heritage, the center offers artists access to international studios, shared firing spaces, clay and glaze laboratories, and advanced kiln facilities. During the residency, IAC artists are developing their own projects through studio practice, technical exploration and exchange.

So many new experiences and new friends 🧡 thanks to @longquanceramicresidency

Loved our outing to the local river/swimming spot!
Been making more work than I have images to post...not much in the way of finished pieces. Keeping it for a later post. In the meantime more drawings for the month of May
Miss our two Korean artists who left last week, Eujin @cerazin_ awan (image 16-17) and NaWon @jan_d_0808 (image 14) a few pictures of them with their work.

Artist Spotlight: Kay Aplin ✨ | IAC Special Residency Project

We are thrilled to introduce Kay Aplin @kayaplin , our current artist-in-residence!
Kay’s site-specific work beautifully responds to her surroundings.
By extracting intricate patterns from nature and architectural details, she creates a captivating visual language born from the beautiful spontaneity of porcelain and glaze firing.

During her residency in Longquan, Kay plans to expand her renowned 'Ceramic Wallpaper' series.
She will immerse herself in the rich heritage of Longquan celadon, focusing on traditional floral patterns and reinterpreting classic Chinese botanical symbols like chrysanthemums and lotuses.
Combining these local icons with traditional wood-firing techniques, Kay will transform her local research into a stunning, large-scale, site-specific installation.

We are honored to support her creative journey, which will culminate in the "IAC @internationalacademyofceramics International Residency Exhibition" at the 2026 IAC Congress. Stay tuned to see this spectacular vision come to life!

💎If you are interested in joining our residency program, please feel free to send us email ! We look forward to hearing from artists around the world.

We’ve come to the end of hosting Kay Aplin at StudioMAHAL for a 10-day period of exploration and research. During this time, Aplin engaged closely with Çanakkale’s layered cultural landscape—experiencing its natural and historical richness firsthand, while conducting a series of visits and conversations focused in particular on the region’s deep-rooted ceramic heritage.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who made this process possible and generously shared their knowledge and experience: ÇOMÜ ÇASEM (@casem2000, @zumrutyessim), Atölye KALE (@atolye.kale), Museum of Troy and the Troy Excavations Team (@troyexcavations, @troyamuzesi), Ersin Karabacak and the Fevzipaşa Çanakkale Artisans Street (@canakkalezanaatkarlarsokagi, especially @uncleshop_, @akgnezgii, and @thegoatzcreative).
