What an immense privilege to be back at Novo Futuro Village, with my great teacher @txana_tuwe_metsa_metsani and my Huni Kuin family. It is here that I continue learning about the true magic that exists in this sacred life we have the opportunity to experience. It was this family that gifted me hope and my life full of purpose that I love so much. Long live the Huni Kuin people, the ancestral wisdom, and all the enchanted beings of the forest ❤️ taken in Acre Brasil by @kayaweiearth

Thank you @summit for amplifying indigenous voices and giving us a platform to share Huni Kuin prayers and ancestral wisdom ❤️

With the support of a team of incredible human beings, the generosity & kindness of the Summit crew, Great Spirit, and the magic of Txaná Tuwe, we had the opportunity to share a Huni Kuin prayer with 2,000 people in the middle of the ocean, on the way to the Bahamas!! 🦋🥹 Life is so sweet. Só gratidão! Thank you to everyone who made this happen! @danielacosmica @theartrising @abiferrin @thisinfiniteheart @scarlett.delatorre @valdeusmarmateuskaxinawa taken in Summit at Sea by @kayaweiearth

This November 1st, Txaná Tuwe, spiritual leader of the Huni Kuin and co-founder of Kayawei Earth, celebrates his birthday! 🪶🦋

To celebrate, we’re calling on our community to help realize one of Tuwe’s dreams, a major step toward food security for his village: we’re raising the final $7,000 to build two fish ponds in Novo Futuro, in the Brazilian Amazon.

These ponds will give Tuwe’s community a steady source of clean protein, so the men no longer have to travel hours upriver into dangerous territory, shared with their uncontacted neighbors, just to feed their families.

We’ve already raised $13,000, and we’re on a mission to raise the rest by November 1st so we can build the ponds as soon as the first rains come!

Swipe to learn Tuwe’s story, and visit the link in bio to help make his birthday dream come true. For a tax-deductible gift, donate at kayaweiearth.org/donate.

Deep gratitude to @fourvisionstribe for collaborating with us on this effort ♥️

Hey everyone!

My dear friend, teacher, and Kayawei Earth co-founder Txaná Tuwe and I both have birthdays coming up, and all we want is FISH! 💙🎣

To celebrate, we’re calling on our community to help us realize a dream that will be a major step toward food security in Tuwe’s village:

We’re raising the final $10,000 we need to build two fish ponds in Novo Futuro, in the Brazilian Amazon.

These ponds will give Tuwe’s community a steady source of clean protein, so the men no longer have to travel hours upriver into dangerous territory shared with their threatened, uncontacted neighbors just to feed their families.

We’ve already raised $10,000, and we’re on a mission to raise the rest by November 1st so we can build the ponds as soon as the first rains come (and so we can be extra happy on our birthdays!).

Link in bio (sharing with friends and family is also a contribution 🫶)

Thank you so much!

The myths keeping good people on the sidelines - busted!

You don’t need permission to become an activist.

Find what you care about and what you’re good at or love doing and see how those things intersect.

Would love to hear in the captions what comes up for you!

The Making of Urucum ✨♥️

One of the most beautiful parts of being in the village is understanding the origins of their medicines and connecting more profoundly with them through their creation and preparation.

Urucum is a sacred plant that many indigenous peoples, including the Huni Kuin, make into body paint for spiritual protection, cultural expression, medicinal uses, and more. As the season of Urucum comes to an end, last week the women and I went out to harvest the rest of the pods before they were gone.

We spent two days removing the seeds from their pods, washing all the deep red pigment off with water, and then boiling that water over the fire until it became thick paint.

Urucum is now woven into my memory in a completely different way than before. When I see it now, I think of watching little Ayani climb high into the tree to collect the pods, or laughing with my sisters, Bari and Kabi, as we took the seeds out together. Coming from a world where nearly everything is bought online (on amazon 🙂) it was so beautiful and refreshing to co-create something directly with nature, in the Amazon! by @kayaweiearth

Seya Yawanawa shares with us the importance of intention and prayer during the process of preparing the sacred medicine of hapé, along with how it is made. 🪶☀️

The matriarch of an incredible family of healers, including our beloved @samara_hunikui_siriany and @samiabiruany , Seya is a Yawanawa elder who has lived here in the Huni Kuin village of Novo Futuro for many years. She is an incredible artisan of traditional indigenous crafts and hapé, full of wisdom and love to share. She adopted me into her family from the first moment I stepped into her home and became my dear friend and village mom!

I’ll be bringing her hapé and beadwork back to the States in August! Supporting the work of indigenous artisans is one of the best ways you can be an ally to the women in the village. If anyone is interested in doing so, let me know! 🏹 taken in Acre Brasil by @kayaweiearth

Waking up to the joy and smiles of these children reminds me every day that there’s always more room to make in my heart!! ❤️

Living fully integrated with nature, free to play, sing, hunt, fish, and celebrate their culture, creates incredibly independent, kind, compassionate, mature, sensitive little humans who are an absolute joy to be around. Witnessing their innate wisdom reminds me of what naturally exists within our children when they have the privilege of growing up without being inundated with technology or forced to stay inside most of the day.

They are my biggest healers, teaching me what I wish I’d been able to grasp during my own childhood: how to be generous, and how to find joy in giving, sharing, and service. In the village, their whole life is one big play date. From morning to night, they swing from trees and play in rivers, doing things that even the most privileged kids in my country only get to dream of once a year at summer camp.

While it’s important not to romanticize village life, and to recognize the immense hardships these children face, they still have the gift of growing up the way human beings were always meant to — and that has given me so much hope for the future.
