One dress. Five belts. 👗✨

Sometimes, a fresh look starts with something small.

Switching up your belt can make a familiar dress feel new and give it a different vibe.

Think about the width, color, texture, and buckle. Each of these details can change the whole look of your outfit.

Try changing where you wear your belt. Placing it at your natural waist gives a different shape than wearing it lower on your hips.

1. A brown leather belt worn a bit lower gives your outfit a relaxed feel. - Prada
2. A chain belt adds a bit of decoration. - Unknown
3. A wide brown belt worn low changes your proportions. -
Ralph Lauren
4. A navy belt with white stitching, worn high at the waist, adds shape and detail. - Prada
5. A matching fabric belt gives a soft, seamless look. Custom

The most important thing is to pick what suits your body, feels good, and shows off your style.

Before you buy a new dress, try styling the one you have with new accessories.

Which belt would you choose:
1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?

Pattern with pattern? Yes, you can!
If mixing prints feels tricky, these simple pointers will help you bring an outfit together.

🎨 Connect through colour.
Look for one or two colours repeated in both pieces. This gives different patterns something in common.

🌸 Vary the scale.
Combine a larger, bolder pattern with a smaller, finer one, so they don’t compete for attention.

👔 Try unexpected partners.
Checks with stripes, or checks with florals, can work beautifully. Start with a shared colour, then play with the proportions.

👀 Choose your focal point.
Patterns the draw the eye, so consider where you want that attention.

For example, my hips are fuller, and my torso is smaller, so I often wear patterns on my upper body to draw the focus up.

If you have slim hips, try patterned trousers.

Finally, take a step back and look at the whole outfit.

A colour connection and a little contrast in scale can make all the difference.

Save this for the next time you’re putting an outfit together.

Here’s Crystal in the beautiful colours that let her shine. 💙

After comparing warm with cool, then bright with soft, we found her best colours in Deep Sweetpea Summer, the richer part of this cool, soft palette.

Her blue eyes stand out, her cheeks look naturally rosy, and her complexion looks clear and even.

Think smoky blues and muted pinks, while the deep tones feel powdery rather than sharp. ✨

If you wear a hijab, understanding your colours is especially important.

The fabric surrounds your face, so a flattering shade can make a beautiful difference.

After 30 years as a personal stylist, I still love being the student.

Today’s branding conversation at Melbourne Fashion Week reminded me of the value of a beginner’s mind.

Stay curious. Listen closely. See familiar things with fresh eyes.

Most of all, keep the woman I’m helping at the centre of everything.

Her needs.
Her concerns.
Her hopes for how she wants to look and feel.

I left with fresh energy and ideas for bringing my experience to what matters most to her.

And running into an old classmate, who now works at Australian College of Arts and produced the event, was an added joy.

Do you have a wardrobe full of clothes but still find it hard to decide what to wear?

Maybe you try on a few outfits only to return to the same familiar combination.

Meanwhile, pieces you loved in the shop hang unworn, waiting for something to go with them.

It’s frustrating, especially when you’ve already invested time and money.

Most of us were never shown how to put together a wardrobe.

We figure it out as we go, with changing bodies, new jobs, and choices that felt right back then.

The good news is, you can learn how to develop your style.

Learning your Style ABC is a great place to start:

A stands for Archetype, which is about showing your personality through what you wear.

B is for Body Structure, helping you find the shapes, proportions, and fits that work best for you.

C means Colouring, which is about finding the shades that look great on you.

When you know your ABCs, it becomes easier to choose outfits, mix and match, and create a wardrobe that truly fits who you are now.

With 30 years of experience as a personal stylist in London + NY and a background in fashion design, I help women discover what works for them and why.

Are you ready to make getting dressed simpler?

Send me a message and let’s find out where you can start.

Here’s Susan in her Soft Autumn Leaf colours. 🍂

These gentle, rich tones complement her natural colouring, making her complexion look dewy, even and luminous.

As our skin changes, knowing our colours can be wonderfully uplifting.

Flattering shades can make fine lines, shadows and uneven pigmentation appear less noticeable, while bringing attention to our eyes and expression.

Do you see Suse first, or the colour she’s wearing? 👀

That’s what we’re looking for in the second stage of Suse’s colour assessment.

Yesterday, we established that her colouring is warm.

Now we’re comparing:
☀️ Light, bright, clear colours with
🍂 Soft, rich, muted tones

Watch her face as the drapes change.
Which shades energise her complexion and make her eyes stand out?

Which pull your attention towards the fabric?

Simply put:
Is Suse wearing the colour, or is the colour wearing her?

Which are best:
☀️ light and bright, or
🍂 soft and rich?

Tell me in the comments. ✨

Last week, we watched 16-year-old Natalie discover her colours. This time, it’s Suse’s turn. ✨

Discovering what brings out your beauty can be uplifting at any age. In your 50s, 60s and beyond, colour offers a lovely way to refresh your look and feel more confident.

Watch Suse’s face as I compare warm and cool drapes.

Where do the shadows look softer?
Notice the eye sockets, the marionette lines beside her mouth, her jawline and the appearance of her skin’s texture.

Deeper shades can sometimes emphasise shadows, while lighter colours may bring a lift. However, warmth and intensity matter too. Brighter isn’t always better.

Suse has a softness to her natural colouring, so I’m beginning with two softer palettes:
one warm, one cool.

Which makes her complexion look clearer, more even and radiant?
When do you notice Suse before the colour?

The joy of finding your colours is recognising your own beauty and knowing how to bring it forward.

What do you see: warm or cool?
