Hi there! Maybe we have met before, maybe not. Let me introduce myself properly.

I’m Kayla, a voice teacher, singer, musician, and actor deeply passionate about the emotional release available to us humans through the use of the voice.

I have been singing since I was in church and picked up a hymnal because that’s what the grown ups were doing, but I didn’t know singing was a profession until well I to my teens when I was handed a pair of fishnet sticking and was told I was a “Hot Box Girl” in my high school production of Guys and Dolls.

I am absolutely in a chokehold by musical theater, but also find real catharsis in folk music and spirituals. I’ll play Beyonce on my guitar, and cry singing Dolly Parton, and if Linda Ronstadt comes on the shuffle I WILL ask you to be quiet.

Like all of us, I contain multitudes and my teaching embodies that. I want my clients to find the voice that makes them FEEL. I want my clients to achieve what they want to achieve, and I want to show them how the voice is limitless.

I want to expand your range with you, and stretch your comfort zones. I want to lean into the big feelings with you, and see what’s on the other side of your discomfort.

I teach using my influences from the Inside Voice Technique and my technician based background in the Bel Canto Tradition as well as my knowledge of vocal and breath anatomy. These are all hugely useful in finding what works best for each individual client to reach their most embodied, spiritually present, and effective voice for singing, speaking, living, and communicating.

Your voice is medicine. It’s free. It was designed to help you express your inner life in an effort to regulate yourself. Sounds can often be more useful than words when it comes to our biggest feelings that need release. This is 13 minutes of me singing on open vowels in no particular melody but just following what wants to be expressed within me. It takes some practice to learn how to trust your voice and body, but that’s all we are doing on this planet anyways right? Practicing things.

I saw a play about girls in Africa coming of age. I managed to make it about me. 🥴

Their circumstances of course are very different from mine but the emotions I witnessed and felt are universal. That’s what makes art so wonderful. The more specific it gets the more universally it is understood.

I feel like this is a story of unanswered prayers. And if you believe all prayers are answered, then this is about not getting the answer you want.

On some level I believe we are all trying to control something uncontrollable.

Trying to fit the most important things into 60 second videos is my newest hobby. 😜

I teach voice in a way that brings the soul back to singing. I teach voice that illuminates your human experience. I teach voice in a body centered way that combines science, exploration, and spirituality. Because your voice is more than a function of the body. It is the audible expression of your soul, and you were meant to use it as such. The wonderful thing is that by working in this way you will start to understand your voice on a level deeper than you may have imagined, and you will sing better than you ever thought possible. People will be drawn toward your voice because of who you are and what you can do with it that only you have access to.

I do this all because this is what I needed in a voice teacher so desperately after I lost my mom and thought I would have to give up singing all together. I can’t imagine that life, so I’m so grateful for my experience in this work.

It is a gift and a pleasure to get to help folks find themselves through this work. Singing is your birth right. It is a human experience that you deserve to dive deeply into. I hope you sing something today. And also maybe cry a little.

I really never intended to constantly talk about grief, but every time I run into folks IRL this is what they mention. I’ll keep sharing because my heart begs me to, and I will continue to quiet my voice and others that make me feel as if I’m a walking, talking definition of a bummer.
