POSTS STORIES REELS

The Black Archives had the honor of joining colleagues from across the country at the recent Association of African American Museums Conference in Philadelphia, hosted by the African American Museum in Philadelphia.

From our session “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Preserve Black Legacies in the Digital Era” to “Rooted in Place, Rising in Purpose: Transforming Communities Through Preservation and Programming”—presented in partnership with the Louis Armstrong House Museum—these conversations reaffirmed what we know to be true. When we protect Black historic spaces, invest in visionary programming, and thoughtfully embrace new technologies, we are not just preserving the past — we are building infrastructures of hope for the future.

Thank you to the hardworking team at @blackmuseums, our phenomenal hosts @aampmuseum, our partners at @louisarmstronghouse, and everyone who showed up, engaged, and shared space with us.

Our team returns to Miami reaffirmed, reinvigorated, and ready to get into the important work still to be done. ✨🖤✨ by @kaypeasy

No better place to spend National Mental Health Awareness Day than at To the Nines in support of @artprevailsproject at @madarts_space

Tonight was a reminder that the arts are not a luxury — they are a lifeline. Creating is healing for the artist, and experiencing that work can spark joy, invite introspection, and expand how we see ourselves and each other.

I’m so proud of my fellow local arts organizations who show up, speak truth, and hold space for our stories. I’m committed to standing with you, and I invite everyone reading this to join me in actively supporting the arts in our community — show up, donate, share, and keep these spaces thriving. 🖤 by @kaypeasy

Pilates has a way of bringing the RIGHT people together. 💜✨

We’re not just building stronger bodies. We’re building connections, creating community, and establishing a LEGACY of health and wellness for Black women.

Because representation matters. Our health matters. Our longevity matters. 🤎
We move. We connect. We LEVEL UP.
Just Move & Breathe. 💜

This week during the 2026 AAAM convening, @bahltsoflo is participating in two conversations you don’t want to miss. Swipe to check it out ⬅️

Thursday, 8/20:
• 10:30 a.m. – Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Preserve Black Legacies in the Digital Era
Dive into how AI can help us digitize, describe, and defend Black histories—while keeping ethics, equity, and community voice at the center.

• 1:45 p.m. – Rooted in Place, Rising in Purpose: Transforming Communities Through Preservation and Programming

With the Louis Armstrong House Museum, @louisarmstronghouse we’ll explore how historic Black sites—from Miami’s Historic Lyric Theater to the Armstrong home in Corona—become engines for cultural continuity, intergenerational dialogue, and community revitalization.

Join us to imagine a future where our institutions are not just repositories of history, but living, breathing forces for justice and joy.

Story Explorers: Books That Open Windows, Mirrors & Doors ✨📚

Today, The Black Archives welcomed mother–daughter author duo Heather Paschal Binns and 6-year-old Carter Binns for a joyful reading of Perfectly Made—and our families showed up and showed out!

From the story circle and author talkback to the photo booth and arts & crafts stations, children and adults explored what it means to be seen, affirmed, and “perfectly made” in their own skin.

As we start our journey toward celebrating 50 years of The Black Archives, days like this remind us why we preserve our stories: so our children can find themselves in the pages, on the stage, and in the archives.

Many thanks to the authors for an inspiring afternoon. Visit @perfectlymadebook to purchase the book or inquire about hosting your own reading 🫶🏾

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be presenting at #AAAM2026!

Join me in Philadelphia, PA, August 19–21, 2026, as we gather with museum professionals and cultural leaders from across the country to celebrate, learn, and shape the future of African American-focused museums and cultural institutions.

I can’t wait to share my session, connect with colleagues, and be part of the conversations that continue to preserve and elevate our stories.

Will I see you there?
