Creator of Bahamian themed: Novelty Items, artwork, and luxury wearable art garments. 'One a piece and no repeats'
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I makin' dese tings for legacy. As I continue to exercise my creative voice, more and more of who I am as a person continues to shine through. A huge part of that identity is wrapped up in being a Bahamian. It's such a unique and fun experience, the inside jokes, the pride we share as a people. I know that there are certain things that only we would get and that only we would truly understand and appreciate.

That shared sense of pride motivated me to include more of those nuances in my work and in my craft. Creating little pieces of us, our food, our language, and culture and the vibrancy of island life that shine through all of what I've been working on for the past 2 years.

As we count down to our 52nd Independence celebration, I'd like for you to include KBAD Studio in your support for all things Bahamian and consider purchasing one of the limited pieces from the celebration collection that are available now.

There's still more tings to come, so don' go too far.

It's me, introducing myself again!! Because I'm not the same Key I was 5 or 10 years ago. She's black, she's bahamian, she's an entrepreneur, she's a fashion designer and stylist, she's an artist and a wife, she's a friend and she's me. And here we are, leaning more into the artistry and creativity now more than ever before. taken in Nassau, New Providence by @kbadstudio

When I started this creative journey, Noone told me that I would have to constantly battle with clients who wanted me to copy the work of someone else. Sometimes, it would even be the work of other designers and stylists right here in Nassau. And each time, it would be so exhausting having to explain how copying someone else's work wasn't something that I did or would do, and that I have my own designs and ideas that I can come up with that would look just as good or even better than what they wanted me to imitate.

I'm no longer subscribing to the term that imitation is a form of flattery. As an artist myself, I can be inspired and motivated by the work of others, but I will always work to foster a creative process that's authentically my own. In order to do that, I've decided to adopt the philosophy of "one a piece, and no repeats" each piece that I create, whether it be a novelty item, a piece of art work or a custom garment will be an exclusive 1 of 1 item

As the sole proprietor for KBAD Studio, there's no way I can keep up with the productivity of a fully staffed team, but that allows me to focus on quality over quantity. By producing exclusive items, I'm able to be intentional about every stone and every stitch. Creating a legacy of an exclusive Bahamian brand. I've been saying for years that I have so many ideas to share, and now I finally get to share them. #kbad2025 #exclusivebrand #bahamianbrand taken in Nassau, New Providence by @kbadstudio

Style Diary:
Back 2 black.

A moody fall is on the way. I feel the transition into cooler weather, and I welcome it gratefully. The end of the year is usually when the pot starts getting hot and boiling over for me. Styling is at an all-time high, and I thrive in the fall months, and I honestly can't wait to see what looks I can come up with this year.

I find myself clinging more and more to becoming a figment of your imagination and slowly moving my creativity away from digital or social media platforms and looking into how I can connect with real people in my real life with my real hobbies. We'll see how that goes.

One thing that's gonna remain consistent is these looks, though. That for sure ain't changing if anything, I find myself leaning into more edgy, more avant garde looks and more stand out fashion movements. In short,'Lemme Cook'
There's so much more on the way

W.A.T.A.N through the lens of @myf.photo
What I love and find so interesting about this series is the duality of living in these moments and being present and then having them reflected back at you in such a compelling way.
Thank you to @myf.photo for capturing the story.
Thank you again to @ixa.bhs for holding a space for me on the stage.

Graand'mii for W.A.T.A.N

The closer and finale; what a strong finish. This look had multiple layers, a custom corset, and hand beading that took me a few days. Graand'mii had to be regal, and a gown was fitting for her. Her story and what she embodies goes so much deeper, and ultimately, I feel like I was able to translate a lot of what I really wanted to with my design choices. There isn't much more to say, Keke came in at the last second and agreed to close for me, and during the fitting, she immediately got into character. I was sold.

This was the first collection that surprisingly didn't stress me out like past shows did. And I think that came from trusting that everything would work out as it should. Maybe it was the finality of all that relieved some of those fears. Muum'ii for W.A.T.A.N

This was actually my favorite piece to make, so much so that I was hand stitching this look the morning of the show. Muum'ii was to have so much more, a baby to hold, a shield to protect them both, and they were supposed to be fully veiled. I knew early on that this look deserved opulence and luxury, and so I just focused on that when time started to run out.

As a designer, the race to the runway is very lonely as most creative projects are. We sit to the machine, the sketch pad, the work table, and chip away at the piece until it's done. I chipped at this look right up until @theenekeisha was able to fully try on the look while we were backstage, and once she hit the runway, I sighed a sigh of relief.

But still, I think there's still more to her story that I'd like to bring to life. Soon enough, though, no rush. taken in The Current: Baha Mar Gallery & Art Center by @kbadstudio

Aan'tii for W.A.T.A.N

Easily, she was the people's choice. The free spirit with a ferocious presence.Ereisha transformed my design from concept to reality and was essential in bringing aan'tii's story to the stage. Aan'tii is the embodiment of financial independence and freedom.

To speak plainly, Aantii is about that cash, that bling and plenty nice tings. She is completely unburdened from the judgment of others and has mastered the art of making diamonds out of her tears. I wanted so badly to add even more sparkle to this look, I imagined a woman standing under a thousand diamond falling stars. How would tears turned into diamond behave in a garment?

How would I make it rain from head to toe? How would I keep her hidden but also have her wear her heart on her sleeve?

By the time of the show, I felt confident that each question was answered in the design 😏 but we'll get more into that later. taken in Nassau, New Providence by @kbadstudio

Siister, the opening look for W.a.t.a.n
She was meant to look like stardust in the female form. A hood/veil that shrouds her in protection, a mask to conceal her true expression, and like all of the characters in this story, she is drenched in tears.
There were other elements and accessories that i didn't get a chance to finish, but when Afrika showed up to the fitting with her braids, it was as if my sketch had walked off the page and into reality. The accessories didn't really matter anymore. The hard part was over.
My designs had already taken shape. The model was stunning, and I had no need to be greedy. All that was left was for her to hit the runway. She cleared the way and set the tone for the story to begin. taken in The Current: Baha Mar Gallery & Art Center by @kbadstudio
