‘Knockout’ premieres in Minneapolis THIS July 2026 🥊

“Brody and Kilmurray take a raucous approach to form” (@dancenthusiast), creating an atmosphere akin to experiencing a summer blockbuster, leaving you on the edge of your seat. “It’s nothing short of an adrenaline rush” (@seechicagodance).

What 💌
‘Knockout’ is a fierce contemporary dance duet that explores queer possibilities through a dynamic choreographic collage of intimacy, attraction, strength and survival.

Hailed by the @chicagotribune as “two of Chicago’s most captivating performers,” Kilmurray + Brody propel audiences through a cinematic thrill ride of femme fight sequences, lush sonic landscapes, toothy camp, and partnerships that sidestep tidy categorization.

Intoxicating, heart-stopping, and surreal, Knockout exists inside of the disorienting moment after the point of contact but just before hitting the floor. TKO, baby.

Dance Practice — Release Focus & Floorwork is BACK at @therootedspace Thursdays from 4-5:30pm 🤸🏻‍♀️🌀🫧

Rooted in release-based contemporary and modern dance, this 90-min class centers a community cultured space that offers a low-stakes, high play approach to training technique. This class is shaped by sequenced material and guided somatic forms; leaning on short-form choreography often progressing from the floor to standing. Through phrase-work, participants will strengthen their ability to move with efficiency while cycling through momentum-driven physicality that is often grounded, off-centered, inverted, and in spiral. Experienced movers are encouraged although modifications are happily offered throughout the class.

it doesn’t feel right without you buddy —

snoop was a foster fail after two weeks together. he came to me extremely sick yet would excuse himself from cuddles to cough in the corner making him the most considerate man. his favorite spot was curled under the blankets making it extremely easy to spend a morning in bed. this little man could out sleep anyone. we always joked that he was saving it up so he could channel his bulldozer mode on his walks. his scremming variations were original and absurd, often signaling to the whole block that his morning walk has started. a true lawn mower and crowd pleaser — he brought so much joy to the spaces he was in.

we’ve hiked mountains, chased rivers, roadtripped across the country together. every night no matter where we were, you’d curl up in my arms and we’d keep each other safe to take on the next day together. i think you’ve seen more things than most humans experience in a lifetime. i’m so lucky we got to do that together. you had a whole crew behind you, helping you fight your lymphoma and letting you go out with the most care, support, and love.

i’ve learned so much from you snoop. i miss you everyday. keep causing ruckus wherever you are now — love you unconditionally ❤️‍🩹 by @kbrody_

Part dance practice, part creative play, this class dives into the physicality and themes of Chicago artists Erin Kilmurray and Kara Brody’s Knockout – a fierce contemporary dance duet powered by high-femme silhouettes, boy-ish horseplay, toothful camp, and athletic, anti-hero energy.

Participants will be guided through a sensation lead warm up, practice (learn) dynamic floor phrase work, and apply these materials towards experimentation in tension, proximity, play, and negotiations of power in a queer-affirming and community-motivated atmosphere. Come twirl!
