Baja pt 1 - the fish/ fishing.

Fishing tends to be the motivator for travel for me these days.. but is by no means the objective.

This trip was exactly that. Jeff ( @tothegills ) invited me out in an pre season window he had open, more or less to hang, show me what the east cape was all about, and if there were some fish around, in between beers/ tacos/ exploring, we’d give em a shot. Lucky for me, the fishing had been good prior to my arrival, but if you asked anyone else around this week, it was slow.

However, slow wasn’t my experience. Jeff seemingly knew exactly what to do and where to fish based on what the weather and the fish gods were showing him. He put me on fish everyday. And the rest was on me to make the cast/ shot(s) . I got lucky in that I had a few gimme’s, and I also made a few decent shots as well that resulted in fish. And HOLY MOLY there’s nothing I’ve experienced like a fired up rooster ( or 20) fired up, comb out of the water, hauling ass chasing your fly as you strip and run backwards up the beach. And in the instance where I couldn’t make the shot ( that DORADO that was 70 yards out with the wind blowing head on at 30 ) Jeff stepped in and got the damn thing done!

I can’t thank Jeff enough, and stress the fact that I would not have poked a single rooster without him, his eyes, knowledge, direction. I was nothing more than just the puppet making the cast and fighting the fish. ( and getting the experience of a lifetime)

And What an experience it was. . This fishery is something I have never seen, and it truly is something you need to do to really know and understand why it’s so rad, and why it seemingly maddens and makes people obsessed.

Catching a rooster fish from the sand is by every accord, The PERFECT fish for the fly.

And great, now I, like so may others I know, am now obsessed. by @kcbadger

Sometimes kicking your feet up, drinking a beer with the homie and watching the fish eat and actually enjoying the view, is better than catching the fish.

Hard to beat a PNW fall day, that feels like summer.

September.

Septembers have always felt heavy in the past. And this one wasn’t any different. I think it’s a lot of things, but can really just be summed up with change.

September always seems to force change. Whether we want it or not.

I had an incredible month. Busy, saw so many beautiful places, people, did ALL the shit I love. But reality definitely poked his head in a few times..
reminding me that everything can’t be perfect all the time.

And bigger than me, and whatever I have stirring.
We lost some truly incredible people this month.

Which, as sad and painful as loss is, it really is a fleeting reminder to tell the people you love, that you love them, take your shots, and live your life exactly how you want to. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

Love EVERYONE in my life. ( there’s a lot of you šŸ˜‚) by @kcbadger

Summer is over 😭😭

When 20 photos doesn’t even scratch the surface to how good the summer was. You knowww it ripped.

Love this life, all the people in it, and allll the places I get to experience.

Fall is secretly my favorite time in the pnw, and it’s looking like I’ll be here to really enjoy it.

But god damn am I gonna miss this summer. by @kcbadger

PDX—VICTOR—SLC—LA—SLC—PDX

Decided being home for a week was too long, and very impulsively made a few loose plans, jumped in the car and drove around the west. Catching fish, sunsets, river floats, mountain hikes, time with some friends i havent seen in a very long time, and a few that i wish i got to see more. Even a few new ones along the way . With a quick work trip thrown in to break it all up.

Lots of solo time behind the wheel always gives me some time to reflect and gain some perspective on ALLL the things… the take-away… take the trip/ take the chance. Even if everything doesn’t go exactly to plan, you ALWAYS come home better than you left, a few new life questions, and hopefully a few answers as welll..but definitely with a ton of new memories and stories..

Im lucky to have SO many people I love, and get to experience this planet with. The world is FUCKING insane right now. But getting away, and tuning out from ALLLL the bullshit and remembering the little things.. like sitting on a rock watching the sunset, really makes all the dumb shit seem so nominal and fade away. Atleast for a little bit haha

Also. God damn is it beautiful outside right now.

Thanks to EVERYONE i saw on this trip. Love yall. For real.

KC Badger has been part of the Redington Squad for as long as anyone in the building can remember. A cherished friend and Ambassador to the brand, we've spent a lot of days on the road and in the water with him. In that time, we've shared more than a few campsites with KC, and his camp groove, as you'd expect, is classic.

After our trip with him to the North Umpqua last May to sling the new Classic Spey Rod, we knew we had to share the experience of camping and fishing KC-style with the rest of you.

Hit the Redington blog (link in bio) for a glimpse into the mind and fish camp routine of a true Redington gem.

The Community Series is back, and we couldn't be more stoked to share The Community Series: 02 with you. We teamed up with some killer artists & friends of Glade to release a limited edition apparel collection inspired by the communities where they live, work, and play.

Head to the link in our bio to check out the apparel and snag some while it's still around.

August. God damnnnnn

Hit both coasts. Made a few new friends, saw a bunch more old ones. Caught some fish, didn’t catch some fish šŸ˜‚, celbrates the year anniversary of breaking my leg by eating shit at the trails, got to go work in a favorite zone, really tried to take advantage of the last month of summer, and consistent warm sunny days in the pnw.

I LOVE September, how the light changes, the days get shorter and with that, the world comes alive as it knows that winter is approaching. And so do I I suppose.

Or, I hope I do šŸ˜‚ at any rate, I’m sure it’ll be a damn good month. šŸ’ƒšŸ’ƒ by @kcbadger
