📖 Hi, I’m Katie!

I’ve noticed a bunch of new faces around here lately (hi and welcome! 👋), so I thought it was time to say hello properly.

I’m an introverted mum of three and a coffee-fuelled (coffee-addicted, let’s be real) cozy gamer who loves curling up with a good book, my Switch, and a big mug of something warm. When I’m not in the day-to-day grind, you’ll usually find me reading, crafting, or hanging out with my hubby and our two kids still at home.

I collect mugs, bookmarks, and indoor plants…and accidentally an ever-growing TBR. I also love stationery and anything creative: journaling, crochet, paint-by-numbers, colouring… and lately, building mini wooden homes and scenes (they’re addictive).

Oh, and I’m a D&D player married to a creative who publishes TTRPGs, which means our house is full of dice, maps, and late-night brainstorming sessions about new campaign ideas he’s working on. 🎲✨

When I’m not reading or rolling dice, I’m usually watching sport (F1, AFL, baseball, basketball, take your pick). I mostly reach for romance, thriller, historical fiction and contemporary fiction, but honestly I’ll read just about anything!

Thanks for stopping by & I hope you get some joy or good recs from my posts!

QOTD: What’s something cozy that’s so you - a little habit, collection, or ritual that just feels like home? ☕️🌿

🌷 Unbox with me! 🌷

It’s been a minute, I’ve been on holidays and what a treat to come back to! This beautiful package care of @affirmpress and @allyvintage! Thank you so, so much.

Ally’s book Live Like A Wildflower has arrived at just the right time for me and I cannot wait to dive in! At a time where the world is a pretty dire state, this book is such a wonderful reminder to find glimmers of peace in ordinary days and also just a great reminder how bloody brilliant we women are. And it’s a darn pretty book too.

Plus, it’s like Ally knew I collect mugs?! Because, this little beauty is already right up there as a fave!!

🌷 What do you have on this weekend? I hope you’re able to find the glimmers of peace in your days.

Non book post!

We’re back baby 💙

20 hours.
 No talking.
 No phone.
 No distractions.

On 5 December, I’ll be taking on the 20 Hours for 20Talk Challenge.

That means sitting in a 2×2 metre square alongside 400 other participants for 20 hours with no technology and no talking.

Just a chair, a sleeping mat, a journal, food, water... and my thoughts.

People often ask me why I do this.

The deeper reason is heartbreakingly simple.

We’re losing far too many young people to suicide every year.

Earlier this year, Harry had to navigate the loss of a classmate to suicide. At just 13 years old.

That’s what gets me. It’s not just the statistics. Behind every number is a young person, a family, a friendship group and a community that is changed forever.

I’ve also found myself thinking a lot about the work I do every day.

We spend our time helping people develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence, empathy and courage.

And I can’t help but wonder...

✨ What if more young people had access to these skills earlier?

✨ What if we taught resilience, empathy and healthy relationships before young people reached adulthood?

✨ What if more young people had the tools to navigate loneliness, uncertainty, social pressure and belonging?

I genuinely believe helping young people develop emotional intelligence, empathy, self-awareness and critical thinking earlier in life can make a difference.

Not just to their own wellbeing.

But to the quality of the relationships, communities and leadership they create in the future.

That’s why this cause matters so much to me.

If you’d like to support me, I’d be incredibly grateful 💙

📚 Book Mail 📚

Thank you so much to @summitbooksaus for sending me a copy of Good Witch by @luciannetonti . ❤️

This one sounds absolutely fascinating. Exploring history, nature, community and the enduring legacy of the witch hunts, Good Witch asks us to imagine what the world might look like if feminine power had never been diminished.

I can’t wait to dive into this one, and I especially loved the beautiful note from Lucianne that accompanied the book. Those little personal touches always make receiving book mail feel extra special. Check the photos for the note and blurb.

❓QOTD: Do you enjoy reading non-fiction, or do you mostly stick to fiction?

🀄️ Book Mail 🀄️

I am so thrilled to have received a copy of @emilybrottauthor ‘s new book, Dirty Pairs.

Thank you so much for my copy. I can’t wait to get stuck into this one.

🀄️Synopsis 🀄️
When their mahjong teacher, Lawrence, dies stark naked on Colette’s Carrara marble kitchen bench, Colette calls her mahjong group - Alice, Lydia and Katie - for help.

Reluctantly, they tidy the scene to cover up her affair. It was just an awful accident... right? A sudden heart attack in the heat of the moment?

But when an autopsy reveals otherwise and Colette becomes the prime suspect, the women have only one option: find the murderer.

As the four women dig into Lawrence’s life, the police uncover evidence that tells a very different story from the one they’re claiming.

Someone is lying, and if they don’t find out the truth in time, Colette will take the fall.

❓QOTD: Do you know how to play mahjong?

💜 Kicking off two special August events with one incredible read! This is my first post for @myreading_road , raising awareness for Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), and my first post for #AussieAugust, celebrating our amazing Australian authors. 💜

If there’s one book you absolutely must read this year, it’s The Time After Now by the incredibly gifted @annefreemanwrites

I finished this book and immediately messaged Anne asking if I could give it an 11/10 because it honestly blew me away.

It’s beautifully written, poignant and deeply thought-provoking. I learnt so much about Type 1 diabetes and just how little awareness there really is. It’s one of those books that teaches you while completely immersing you in the story.

As a woman in my 40s, a wife and a mum, there were moments that felt incredibly relatable. Anne captures grief with such honesty and tenderness that I felt every word. She also writes so beautifully about the way people change over time, how relationships evolve, and the quiet weight of wondering what might have been.

The most unique thing for me was that nothing in this story mirrored my own life, yet somehow it felt like it could have been. It felt so real. I found myself reflecting on my own choices, my own memories and all those little turning points that shape a life. I don’t think I’ve ever had a book feel so personal while being so completely different from my own experiences.

And can I just say how incredibly lucky we are here in Australia to have such an amazing pool of talented authors? Anne Freeman is right up there alongside authors like Casey Nott, Brooke Crawford, Kylie Orr, January Gilchrist, Mark Smith and Alex Sawyer - just to name a small number. We’re spoiled.

After reading this, I needed to decompress and come down from the emotional high this book left me on. Thank you Anne & @hawkeyepublishing for my early review copy.

💜 QOTD: Has a book ever made you reflect on your own life, even though the story was nothing like your own?

👀 July’s #Creeptertonbookclub pick was such a great read! We read It Could Have Been Her by the fabulous Lisa Jewell. Gosh, what a creepy, haunting story.
@lisajewelluk made this one incredibly atmospheric. It was unsettling in the best way (perfect for #Creeperton).

I did a mix of reading and listening to the audiobook, and the narration was fantastic. I’m not usually a huge audiobook fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

You know when you’re reading something and it’s just super unsettling? My mind wandered in all different directions as I read through Stuart’s story. I also loved the multiple POVs and timelines. Sometimes that can be tricky to follow, but Jewell made it so easy to just get, while still being completely absorbed in the story and everything that was happening.

I did pick the ending and, more than anything, I was just proud I worked it out. 😂

I 100% want to see more Trevally & Son... 👀 I highly recommend this book to lovers of the thriller genre!

Thank you to @bookswithpaulette for, as always, organising such a brilliantly engaged group. I love reading with my fellow #Creepertons and can’t wait for our August book.

🌎 Where Truth Ends by Mark Smith | RRP $34.99

This was my first @marksmithauthor novel and it definitely won’t be my last.

Part eco-thriller, part suspense, this story kept me turning the pages from start to finish. It’s not a twisty or scary thriller, but there’s a constant sense of tension as Meg finds herself on the run after a climate protest turns deadly.

What I loved most was the environmental focus. The themes felt timely, informative and grounded in reality, leaving me thinking and pondering - even after I’d finished reading.

An engaging, fast-paced read that’s perfect if you enjoy thought-provoking stories with plenty of suspense.

Thank you to @macmillanaus for my copy.

❓QOTD: If you could read one book that everyone should read about our planet or environment, what would it be?

✍🏽 Synopsis
When a peaceful climate protest ends with a violent explosion in the city centre, every member of the protest group becomes a suspect. The incident is declared a terrorist attack.

But the authorities aren’t the only ones hunting Meg.

Scared and alone, Meg seeks refuge with her father, Luke, knowing that every word she says puts him in danger too. But as the terrorism investigation closes in, Meg is forced to question everything: her friends, her cause, even herself. Was her group of activists infiltrated from the start? Or has someone twisted their mission beyond recognition?

What happens when the truth is the first thing to burn?

🌻 Book Review 🌻

Sweet Salvation by @bellamatthews.author 🌻😍

There isn’t a Kroydon Hills book I don’t love… but I think this one might just be my favourite (yeah, I know I say this every single release!!). 🤍

Instead of my usual squealing, this one had me crying an insane amount…it was such an emotional read - but I loved every minute of it.

I’ve been waiting so long for Liv’s story, and it completely lived up to my expectations. Bella, thank you for taking me back to Kroydon Hills. (Yes… I may have revisited Ryker’s book to see if I could pick out any clues. 👀).

One of my favourite things about Bella’s writing is how seamlessly she weaves her characters together into one incredible universe.

You can absolutely read this as a standalone, but it’s even more special if you’ve read the series.

Now the countdown begins for the next one! 🫶

Thank you @bellamatthews.author for always trusting me with an ARC, I don’t take it for granted & truly appreciate it.

Book Review ✨ The Mademoiselle Alliance by @natashalesterauthor ✨

I buddy read with some wonderful friends @amz__reads and @gurlreadsatbarspubs , and we were all left in awe of Marie-Madeleine Fourcade.

Natasha Lester has a way of bringing history to life that completely pulls me in. Her storytelling is immersive, and I especially love reading her author’s notes to learn more about the incredible research behind each novel.

If you enjoy historical fiction featuring courageous women, this one absolutely deserves a place on your TBR.

“These women will set the world ablaze. And from their courage, a better one will rise.”

Thank you, @natashalesterauthor, for shining a light on such an extraordinary woman.

Have you read this one yet?
