📝 The Seoul Letter Shop
🖊️ Baek Seungyeon

My love of books and beautiful stationery (and fabulous book covers!!!) combined for our bookclub pick this month. I could almost see and feel the pens and paper as they were described throughout this cosy read. It made me remember fondly the excitement I’d get when I had a penpal letter waiting for me when we exchanged them in primary school with students from the other side of the world! Nothing like a handwritten letter or card in the mail 🤩

The Seoul Letter Shop has an anonymous penpal service, where customers can choose a letter from a stranger, and in return, write a letter for a stranger to choose. I loved learning in the author’s note that these letters within The Seoul Letter Bookshop are real letters, written by real people.

Lovely as always to catch up with @bmichie31 @the.brooke.library @emiliesbookshelf @lou_b_reads @kate.broadway.author @achapterandacuppa and special guest @mandylovestoread … we missed you @kdiddlyreads 📖

Today is a Public Holiday in Melbourne but that didn’t stop our Bookclub crew from catching up.

We even had a special visitor from interstate as @mandylovestoread was down to watch Kylie, I mean the footy.

Our book pick was The Seoul Letter Shop, a delightful, feel good story. We all agreed we would definitely visit this shop if one was to exist in Melbourne.

I really enjoyed this story but I have to admit to being a little confused with all the Korean names. That’s definitely a me problem and in no way a bad mark for the author. They have even taken the time to include a list of all the characters at the start of the book. I probably should have copied this and referred to it to avoid my confusion.

I love receiving a handwritten letter although they are very few and far between these days. I can also spend hours looking through stationery stores.

Thanks, as usual, to our #bookclubatthebrookelibrary crew @the.brooke.library @emiliesbookshelf @kate.broadway.author @amz__reads @achapterandacuppa @bmichie31 and we missed you @kdiddlyreads

❓Any fun weekend plans?

📚 Hyoyoung feels trapped in her small hometown after her dreams of becoming a filmmaker have been dashed, and so when a friend asks her to come and work at his boutique letter shop in Seoul’s Yeonhui-dong district, she jumps at the chance.

The shop is stocked with irresistible pens, papers and envelopes, and Hyoyoung is soon beguiled by its charms. She is particularly intrigued by the shop’s pen pal service, where customers can pick up an anonymous letter to read, as long as they agree to write an anonymous letter in return.

Hyoyoung observes the shop’s customers secret correspondence with each other, as they express their deepest fears and most ardent desires to people they’ve never met. Each of the customers has their own story to tell, and as her connection with them deepens, it’s not long before Hyoyoung discovers the healing, transformative power of the handwritten letter herself …

✨ VACAY MODE ✨

How many books is too many to take on a 5-day vacay to Port Douglas… asking for a friend 🤭📚🌴

Clearly, I’ve got a theme going here 👀 And no, I’m definitely not taking ALL of these because let’s be real… I won’t read them all. I’ll be lucky if I even finish one tbh 🤣

We’re heading off to Port Douglas for a family wedding, so it’s going to be a jam-packed 5 days filled with love, laughs, sunshine and lots of memories being made 🥹🫶🏼

And of course… a few cheeky cocktails along the way 🤪🍸🌴

QOTD: How many books would you pack for a 5-day trip? 👀📚

👰‍♀️ The Cairo Bridal Shop
🖊️ Tess Woods

Happy release day to this gem of a read! 🎉 I was so excited to win an advanced reader copy of my most anticipated read of 2026 🙌 I absolutely loved everything about this book, from the sisters, to Soheila, to the incredibly vivid setting, to learning about the female Pharaohs. The prologue pulled me in from the very first sentence, the author’s note at the end made this story all the more special and in between, I found myself in a world of unbreakable bonds, political tension, heartbreak and new beginnings.
Utterly unputdownable!

Thanks to @kdiddlyreads for buddy reading with me!

❓ Is there an upcoming new release you’re looking forward to?

The Yacht - Kayte Nunn

This was a quick, suspenseful read with a vast array of characters.
Initially, I found it a little tricky remembering who was who, but once I got my head around this, it was all hands on deck! ⛵️

It opens where a tragic event has already occurred, one person is dead, and two are missing. We don’t know who or why or how. This is slowly revealed chapter by chapter.

A rich family are on their maiden voyage on their new luxury yacht, aptly named Ambition. On board are plenty of awful, unlikeable characters, each with their own hostilities and axes to grind.

Each chapter is told from a different POV, each titled after the relevant person: The Deckie, The Trophy Wife, The Survivor, The Eldest Daughter, The Patriarch, The Hanger on and The Detective.

As the story unfolds and we learn more about each character, the tension also builds.

It is well plotted, with good characterisation, and I thought it was an addictive twisty thriller!

This was the second book by Kayte Nunn we have read together as part of #thebookclubatthebrookelibrary having read The Palazzo last year.

This book reminded us a lot of another previous bookclub pick, The Second Wife. Both books feature mega rich families on a yacht or ship and are filled with horrid characters.

There was a LOT going on in this story and I really enjoyed it. We know from the beginning that there has been a terrible accident and I loved picking up little snippets about what happened as I read along, before the big reveal which I won’t go into as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Suffice to say that there was even more to this story than first thought.

An enjoyable and easy to read thriller and we were all in awe of Kayte who has transitioned to a great thriller author after numerous historical fiction books.

As always, fun catching up with most of our bookclub crew @bmichie31 @achapterandacuppa @kdiddlyreads @amz__reads @kate.broadway.author and we missed @the.brooke.library and @emiliesbookshelf

❓Are you a member of a bookclub? If so, what is your current bookclub read?

📚 A man on the edge.

A woman hell-bent on revenge.

A cheating husband.

A desperate wife.

A property empire on the brink of collapse.

A family at loggerheads.

A predator hiding in plain sight.

Who will sink and who will swim?

📚BOOK CLUB📚

The Yacht by Kayte Nunn was the August pick for #thebrookelibrarybookclub and it was an addictive domestic suspense. With a large cast of characters it did take me a bit to get them all straight in my head, but once they became more familiar I was able to focus on the compelling story.

Set on the Ambition, the glamorous yacht newly purchased by wealthy businessman Evan Thyssen, who brings his whole family aboard for its maiden voyage. I enjoyed how each point of view chapter was titled with a descriptor of the character. From The Trophy Wife to The Detective, there were seven POVs, with some featured a lot more than others. It certainly added to the drama reading the family’s thoughts on each other as well as seeing the new deckhand’s thoughts too. Every single person aboard seemed to have something to hide, or some ulterior motive and it made for a great read.

There were some quite dark themes in this book, as well as some truly nasty characters, but all of this added to the twisty tension of the story.

I listened to the audiobook wonderfully narrated by Sofia Engstrand.

Thanks to @kaytenunn2 and @harpercollinsaustralia for the gifted book for review and thanks to my fabulous book club friends @lou_b_reads @kdiddlyreads @achapterandacuppa @amz__reads and @kate.broadway.author for the great catch-up.

We missed you @the.brooke.library and @emiliesbookshelf

Of course, we also headed into Big W for some book shopping. Swipe to the last photo to check out what came home with me.

❓Happy Friday! What are your Friday night plans?

I’ll be watching my son’s Futsal game and then reading How To Find a Guy in Five Weddings by Cynthia Timoti.

📖 The Mademoiselle Alliance
🖊️ Natasha Lester

This story, inspired by real life Marie-Madeleine Méric, the only female leader of a Resistance network in France in WWII, absolutely blew me away. The prologue had me holding my breath, and what was to come was all the more extraordinary that it’s almost unbelievable a person can go through so much. What a strong, amazing woman with an equally amazing story. The best kind of historical fiction book is one that has me wanting to do an immediate deep dive into historical events and people, and this one made me do just that.

I read this along with @kdiddlyreads and @gurlreadsatbarspubs 🩷 go check out their reviews.

❓The characters had animal code names in the Alliance…what would yours be?
