I’m absolutely heartbroken, griefing, but also filled with love and gratitude.

I’m not sure if you’ll believe this but this is what happened.

I had been feeding this hummingbird all of last year. He came to our backyard all the time. He hoarded all the feeders and would chase the other hummingbirds away. Oh yeah, he’s an absolute bully. He’s a fighter.

Yesterday afternoon when I thought of refilling the feeders again since it’s springtime, I found him just perched on the wall. The winds were so strong but he’s just sitting there very peacefully. At first I thought he’s sleeping but then I realized that he’s no longer breathing.

I cried and I cried. Even now I feel like there’s so much tears inside me that needs to be let out.

I’m so incredibly thankful that he came to say goodbye, and finally letting me pat him and observe his magnificence up close.

Nonetheless, this feeling of grief and ultimate loss is so unfamiliar to me. I’m still trying to make sense of it. It is not just sadness. It’s beyond sadness.

We buried him in the backyard and marked it with a tombstone. 🪦

So happy for my sister and my family 🎊

Big celebrations like this are indeed so rare and I’m so glad that I got to not only meet family that I haven’t seen for a while, but also be present as my true authentic self. I got to introduce my partner to many of my relatives, so it’s kinda a mix between catching up and coming out.

I was talking to a friend at church yesterday and as a queer Asian person, they understood the challenges I was going through. But we both agree that family is family. Blood ties are special and unique in that we can never truly shake them off, if at all.

For queer folks, we are always prompted by the spirit to bring our circles together. I truly believe that’s our role in this world, and it’s really a unique opportunity that only we have. When we bring our honest, open self (full of self-love and self-compassion) into other circles, and allow contact, and in this case, between my birth family and my chosen family, something divinely magical can happen. If you do it with a whole lot of openness and love and compassion for others and yourself. That’s the key.

Textbooks for my second semester at @garrettseminary 📖 🤓

I think if you wanna know somebody, a way is to know what content they are consuming, and you’ll get a sense of where their mind’s at or where they are headed to… 🏞️

Kinda feel like this is my second chance at education bc it’s not what I NEED to study FOR a career (did pre-med and that sucked and I’m not gonna be a doctor this lifetime lol), but what I WANT to learn for the sake of interest & curiosity. ✨ taken in Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary by @keaynigel

My happiest place in Seattle: @seattlespheres 💚💚💚

Incredible, jungle-size specimens. For an aroid enthusiast, this place is literally HEAVEN! I saw so many anthuriums & philodendrons, as well as begonias & alocasias, that I myself grow at home, but the size of these plants is just wow. The leaves are also in such great condition. I just wanna stay in here for hours. ☺️☺️☺️

In case you don’t know, the spheres is actually a workspace created by @amazon for their employees to work at. #mindblown 🤯🤯🤯 I’m pretty sure most people here don’t even know how precious some of these plants are. Nonetheless, it’s an absolutely beautiful green workspace. The best treat for any plant lover visiting Seattle! 🥰
