During my F1 photography career in which I attended over 700 Grand Prix races I had the privilege of having the opportunity to photograph some of the most iconic moments in Formula One history.

At Estoril in 1985, this photo of Senna, Prost, Mansell and Piquet which was set-up with the help of Bernie Ecclestone showed a friendly gathering of the then two world champions and two future world champions all arm in arm, but things were not what they seemed.

I feel privileged that this iconic moment is being featured in the upcoming Netflix series about the life and legacy of Ayrton Senna, and has been faithfully recreated.

British Actor @joe__hurst has been cast to play me in this mini-series which is being premiered on @netflixbrasil @netflix @netflixlat @netflixuk @netflixjp on 29th November 2024 and I am excited to see how Joe portrays me.

At just four years old, I stood beside a young Jackie Stewart at Oulton Park in 1963—a moment my dad captured on camera. That day sparked my love for motorsport and photography, and from then on, I was hooked. I went to every British race to watch my hero, inspired by his skill, determination, and grace on the track.

He was my hero as a child and still is today. That passion led me to Formula One, where I’ve been fortunate to capture unforgettable moments and form lifelong friendships with legends like Ayrton Senna.

How it all began… 🌟

It was a day like no other. I had just arrived in the paddock when someone recognised me from Thruxton. He came over and asked, ‘Are you a professional photographer?’ Without hesitation, I said, ‘Yes, of course.’

What followed was the start of an unforgettable journey. He needed photographs to send to Brazil regularly and asked if I could help. I gladly agreed. That very day, he won his heat, then the race. I was there on the podium to capture the moment. The late evening light was magical as I photographed him celebrating with his wife, Lilliane.

That man was Ayrton Senna da Silva. What began as one incredible race turned into a professional relationship spanning four years, from 1981 to 1984. I had the privilege of being his personal photographer, writing his press releases, managing fan mail, and handling his PR.

Working closely with Ayrton during the early years of his racing career remains one of the most special periods of my life. Capturing the moments of a legend in the making was an honor I’ll never forget. 🌍🏎️✨

Hoje, no @museudocaramulo , tivemos o prazer de entrevistar a lenda @keithsuttonf1 , tendo como protagonista um automóvel muito especial para nós e que faz parte da nossa coleção: o Van Diemen RF81, o monolugar com que Ayrton Senna conquistou a sua primeira vitória no automobilismo, em 1981.

O Museu do Caramulo recebe amanhã o Heroes Day, um evento dedicado à Fórmula 1 que assinala o encerramento da exposição “Fórmula Mágica”.

Um dos grandes destaques será a presença de Emerson Fittipaldi, bicampeão mundial de Fórmula 1, que irá conduzir o Copersucar FD03 de 1975. O evento contará também com Keith Sutton, fotógrafo histórico da modalidade, e com o Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Indy 500, da coleção privada de Fittipaldi.

A programação tem início às 10h00, com a chegada de concentrações de automóveis clássicos e desportivos, e prossegue, durante a tarde, com a Rampa do Caramulo Heroes Day. O dia termina no Caramulo Experience Center, com a exibição dos filmes Rush: No Limite da Emoção e F1: O Filme.

O Heroes Day será uma das últimas oportunidades para visitar a exposição “Fórmula Mágica”, que já recebeu mais de 70 mil visitantes e encerra a 18 de outubro.

Museu do Caramulo is hosting Heroes Day tomorrow, a Formula 1 dedicated event that marks the closing of the "Fórmula Mágica" exhibition.

One of the main highlights will be the presence of two-time Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, who will drive the 1975 Copersucar FD03. The event will also feature Keith Sutton, a historic photographer of the sport, alongside Fittipaldi's private collection Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Indy 500.

The programme kicks off at 10:00 with the arrival of classic and sports car gatherings, continuing in the afternoon with the Caramulo Heroes Day Hillclimb. The day concludes at Caramulo Experience Center with film screenings of the films Rush and F1.

Heroes Day will be one of the final opportunities to visit the "Fórmula Mágica" exhibition, which has already welcomed over 70 000 visitors and closes on 18 October.

Keith Sutton marca presença no Heroes Day

Uma das figuras históricas dos bastidores da Fórmula 1 vai marcar presença no evento que celebra a modalidade no próximo dia 17 de Outubro: o Heroes Day.

Keith Sutton é um dos fotógrafos mais experientes e respeitados da Fórmula 1, com uma carreira que se estende por mais de 45 anos e mais de 700 Grandes Prémios.

Durante o Heroes Day, Keith Sutton estará em contacto direto com o público para apresentar o seu portefólio fotográfico e partilhar, na primeira pessoa, momentos e histórias exclusivas que viveu enquanto fotógrafo de Ayrton Senna.

O fotógrafo irá também juntar-se à sessão de autógrafos com os pilotos, agendada para as 12h30.

A legendary figure behind the F1 lens will join motorsport enthusiasts on 17 October for Heroes Day.

With a career spanning over four decades and more than 700 Grands Prix, Keith Sutton remains one of the paddock’s most revered photographers.

Visitors will have the chance to meet Sutton in person, view his celebrated portfolio, and hear untold stories from his years documenting Ayrton Senna.

The photographer will also be joining the drivers' autograph session, scheduled for 12:30 pm.

“As you know, I’m a big Kimi fan because after meeting him in Melbourne, Australia last year for his first Grand Prix, he explained he was a big Senna fan along with his father Marco, and that’s why I gave him one of my Senna T-shirts.

I met Ayrton when he was just 20 years old and I was 21 when he arrived from Brazil to race in the UK, and I became his photographer and his PR manager. We went to Formula One together in 1984 for his first Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the rest is history.

This is what I’m thinking about Kimi on Sunday when he made history and became the first Italian driver in 60 years to win the Italian Grand Prix. Ayrton won his one and only Brazilian Grand Prix in 1991 and that was his dream. I’m sure that was Kimi’s dream too, to win the Italian Grand Prix—and he did it, in only his second season of Formula One. Incredible! ❤️” @kimi.antonelli @antonelli_1807 @mercedesamgf1
