ISSUE NO. 117 • KELLETTE ELLIOTT

Kellette Elliott is a Portland-based analog collagist whose practice is rooted in autobiography, memory, and the navigation of chronic pain. Working with fragments drawn from vintage magazines and books, she constructs intimate narratives where figures, birds, and flowers recur as symbolic stand-ins for self, loss, and resilience. Through both her studio practice and her teaching, Elliott treats collage as a site of storytelling, connection, and community. @kelletteworks

1917: “Younger Self” collage on book cover.
In therapy, I’ve been working a lot on my younger self and learning how to love her. I had a pretty rough childhood and have severe PTSD from it. Little me didn’t understand everything. But now I’m really trying to take care of her and let her know things are OK now.

I used to fondly look out my window wishing I could be outside with my friends as I saw them playing. Looking at the world happening while I was stuck in my bedroom. That image really spoke to me. taken in Portland, Oregon by @kelletteworks

What a Friday night! First, Templeton and I headed to Vancouver Community Library @friendsofvcl to their annual fundraiser Art 4 Art which raises money for programming at the library. 322 participants, each piece is only $30!! Money goes to such a great cause!

Next we headed back into Portland to Ford Gallery @fordgallery.pdx for the Black and White group show—all media. The exhibition is really beautiful, you should check it out! I was happy to share a wall with my talented friend @therealgarky ❤️

A number of my former students came to support me and that always means the world! Seeing them grown-up, in love, being amazing people just brings me so much joy!!

1915: “Crystal Chandeliers” commissioned collage.

I was reached out to by @southron_creative to make this album art. He wanted to definitely include this guest check in the collage because it had special meaning. He mailed it out to me. He wanted a single guy in there. We agreed there definitely had to be some birds (duh!!), and the sheet of music was the icing on the cake turned sideways with that hand drawn circle on it! It was such a pleasure to work with this group and I love how it turned out!!!

I’m so excited to share my next set of notecards available at @urbanitepdx!!!

I have a moody, autumnal set of women and flowers. Vintage cameras and the last set is beautiful flowers. Notecards are blank inside so they can be used for any occasion!

Each set comes in a box with 4 cards (1 of each set) and 4 envelopes. $20 per set!

The notecards can found at the front counter of the store. But make sure to walk around the whole store because it’s absolute heaven! Furniture, plants, books, pots, handmade goods from local artists. It’s just the coolest place!

1913: “Asia and Cayden’s Wedding Day” collage for former student @asia.mclaughlin’s special day.

I asked her for her wedding flowers, colors, vibe so it had special meaning.

Her wedding was in a beautiful barn and my collage laid sweetly on the dessert table.
