POSTS STORIES REELS

If you’re new here, welcome! And if you’ve been here a while, consider this a proper introduction.

📺 I spent 20 years as a television news anchor covering breaking news, high stakes interviews, and live broadcasts with zero margin for error across NBC, ABC, FOX, and the CW in Sacramento and Denver. I’m a 3x Emmy Award winner, and I left the anchor desk a few years ago on purpose, because I had something bigger I wanted to build.

🎤 Now I’m a keynote speaker at conferences and corporate events, I coach executive women 1:1 on presence and communication through my Power of Your Presence program, and I run Kellie DeMarco Communications, where I help leaders show up with the same clarity, confidence, and authority I had to build under pressure every single day on camera.

🎥 I also produce strategic video content for businesses and nonprofits through my production company, because after two decades of telling stories on television, helping others tell theirs is work I genuinely love.

Outside of all of that, I’m a swim mom, tennis player, a Sacramento local, and someone who believes deeply that confidence starts from the outside in, not the other way around.

If you’re ready to work together, DM me the word READY and I will reach out personally. If you want my FREE “Communicate to Win” guide to help you prepare for your next high stakes moment, DM me the word WIN and I will send it straight to you.

I made main anchor at 27. Not because I was the most talented woman in the building, but because I stopped waiting to feel ready and started showing up like I already was.

I watched women around me stay in the same position for years. Talented, hardworking women, who were waiting for someone to notice how good they were and hand them what they deserved.
I was not waiting. I was studying the women at the top on national news. I matched their standard of presence before my career had earned it. I found mentors who told me the truth. I walked into my boss’s office and asked for what I wanted out loud. The promotions followed.

After 20 years on live television and years of coaching executive women I know this to be true:

The gap between the woman who gets the opportunity and the woman who does not, is almost never about qualification. Its about presence, visibility, and the willingness to take up the space you’ve already earned.

You do not wait until you’ve arrived to show up like you belong there. You show up like you belong there and the arrival follows.

SAVE this if you needed to hear it today. And SHARE it with a woman in your life who’s waiting for her moment to feel ready. 💜 by @kelliedemarco

Pressure doesn’t show up for things that don’t matter. If your stomach flips before a presentation, it’s because the outcome means something to you and someone gave you the chance to make it happen.

AFTER a big moment, skip the replay in your head and instead just write down ONE thing that worked and ONE thing you’d adjust. That’s all. No verdict on yourself, just information.

Wishing you all the best on your next big moment on your calendar! ❤️ by @kelliedemarco

Here’s what I’d do from the moment you walk onto a set to the moment you walk off:

Before the interview

• Talk to the crew like people. They’re the ones making you look good, and your nerves settle when you feel at home.
• Ask the producer, “What’s the first question?” Knowing it takes the edge off.
• During the mic and light check, sit the way you’ll sit on air, slightly forward with relaxed shoulders.

During the interview

• Lead with your answer, then explain. Short answers get used and long ones get cut.
• Look at the host, not the camera, unless someone tells you otherwise.
• Pause for a breath before you answer. It makes you sound sure of yourself.
• Bring your energy up about 50%. What feels like a lot to you looks normal on camera.

After

• Stay in your seat until you’re told you’re clear, because mics can still be live.
• Thank the host and the crew. People remember it, and they’ll invite you back.

If you’ve ever shared good news and felt the room get a little quieter, you’re not imagining it, and you’re not alone. The more visible you become, the more you learn about who is genuinely glad for you.

Try this: think about the last 3 times you had good news and who you wanted to call first. Then notice who celebrated with you… and who quietly changed the subject. You don’t have to cut anyone off, but you do get to decide who hears it first, and some people come back around once they’ve adjusted to the new you.

Do you feel your friend circle getting smaller as you grow? Keep going, my friend. I promise you’re moving in the right direction. ❤️ by @kelliedemarco

It’s the start of holiday season, which means someone is likely going to hand you a glass and say, ‘Say a few words.’ Save this! 🦃 🍽️ 🥂

A few things I do that aren’t in the video:

🥂Wait for the room to settle before you start, and lift your glass instead of tapping it, since people notice the movement.

🥂Look at the person you’re toasting, not at your glass or your notes. Say their name, because it makes it personal.

🥂Keep the glass down until the last line, then raise it as your signal that you’re done.

If you freeze, you can fall back on this: “To ___, who ___, and to ___. Cheers.” It’s about 20 seconds, which is the right length for most rooms.

Who are you toasting this Thanksgiving? Tell me below!🤍 by @kelliedemarco

10 years ago tonight, neither of us wanted to go to a Halloween party. We had both been through divorces, and we each had friends who basically pushed us out the door that night to go out. We were the only two people there who weren’t wearing costumes.

When Duncan turned around and said hello, I felt something so strong that it scared me and I ran off! Like fate had slapped me in the face… I knew he was supposed to be in my life.

We eventually connected, laughed, and we’ve been together ever since that night. Now married, with a wonderful blended family.

If you’re in a season where staying home on the couch feels easier, I hope this is your nudge to say YES anyway, because you never know who is going to turn around and say hello.

Happy 10 years, Duncan. I love you and I’m so glad we both went that night! 🧡🖤

My 12-year-old esthetician is hiring. Her motto: no pain, no gain. 😂 by @kelliedemarco

The walk to the podium is where a lot of people lose their nerve, so here’s what I do from the second they say my name to the second I start talking.

1. I smile while I’m being introduced. It relaxes my face and tells the room I’m glad to be there.

2. I walk up at a steady pace and don’t rush. Hurrying looks nervous, and a calm walk looks like confidence.

3. I take in the room and find one friendly face. It gives me someone to start talking to, and the nerves settle.

4. I plant my feet and take one breath before I say a word. It feels long to me and looks confident to them.

5. I don’t open with “thank you for having me.” I open with something that makes people lean in, like a question or a short story, and I say thank you a little later. (Bonus points if you can make them laugh!)

Which one will you try before your next talk? Tell me below, and follow me for more public speaking tips. ❤️🎤 by @kelliedemarco

A script is a map for your voice and not a document to read. I marked up every script this way as a new anchor and it works just as well when I emcee an event, host a show or meeting, or record a video.

This is also useful if you:
🎤 create your own content
🎤 have a podcast, webinar, or course
🎤 read a scripted video
🎤 have a board update
🎤 are giving a toast
🎤 are doing a presentation

3 more marks I use that didn’t fit in the slides:

1. Underline the one word in a sentence you want to land. Say that one word a little stronger, and your meaning comes through.
2. A down arrow at the end of a sentence. It reminds me to finish the thought on a downward tone, which sounds more sure than an upward lift.
3. A timestamp in the margin. I mark where I should be at each point, so I know how I’m doing on time, without checking the clock.

Print it on paper (old school!!) and use a sharpie so your marks are easy to see. ✍🏼

Then read it out loud once with the marks, and once without, and you’ll learn which ones you’ll actually follow.

Which mark are you going to try first? And what other TV tricks can I teach you? ❤️ by @kelliedemarco

The first thing TV taught me about getting dressed is that you’re dressing for the room and the camera, and the trick I still use is solid, bright color.

We wore every color of the rainbow in news, and a solid color always looked more polished than a busy pattern, which can distract on camera.

I never wear black on stage, so I find out what the stage will look like ahead of time to make sure I’m not blending into the backdrop.

After that, I follow a few other rules:
🎤I have to feel like a total 10 in it, or I’m not wearing it
🎤A well-tailored suit or dress is my first choice because there’s nothing to piece together on the morning of a big talk.
🎤I think about who is in the audience and dress for them.
🎤I keep my jewelry simple with one fun piece, and I never wear open-toed shoes on stage unless I’m wearing a gown.

What’s the color you feel most powerful in? Tell me below, and follow me for more tricks you can use on your next stage. ❤️ by @kelliedemarco
