Last summer I wandered down a quiet Brooklyn backstreet when a 1950s taxi slid out from a half-open shutter. A voice invited me in, and for a moment I wondered if I was stepping into a thriller… or something magical. Luckily, it was the latter.

That’s how I met Lenny Shiller, the heart of Lenny’s Garage.

A few days later, I returned with my great friend @kelliegraphy and heard how his passion for vintage cars began and grew. By the ’80s, he had four cars and knew his wife wouldn’t welcome a fifth.
«The name of the article is “I bought a car and hid it from my wife,”» he told us.
So when he bought the Buick, he hid it in his parents’ garage… until one evening she saw it during dinner. Caught!

Instead of arguments, he bought her a loft for her true love — painting. From then on, they pursued their passions side by side. She passed away recently, and now her paintings hang above Lenny’s cars, keeping their worlds connected.

The magic of the garage isn’t just in the cars — the Chrysler from the B-52’s Love Shack video, the Ford from Bonnie and Clyde, and the Good Humor ice-cream truck at the heart of the collection — but in the atmosphere itself: chrome glowing, dust floating, and decades of care and love.

Lenny is generous and kind, lending his cars to parades and community events. His garage isn’t a secret museum; it’s a love story, a community gift, and a small miracle hidden behind a half-open shutter.

$This neighborhood nugget boasts the coolest sign in all of Fort Greene {IMO}. No dry cleaning happens onsite now as it’s occupied by retailer @clic_usa, but thankfully the petit Tour Eiffel lives on. #kelliegraphy #illustration #handdrawn #brooklyn #fortgreene #frenchdrycleaning #nettoyageasec #petitetoureiffel taken in Fort Greene by @kelliegraphy$
