I forgot my entire professional makeup kit on a wedding day. 😱😱😱

Not a product.
Not my lashes.
My. Entire. Kit.

My family was also attending the wedding, so after a very chaotic early morning and a 40 minute drive, I realized my makeup kit had been left at home.

Cue absolute panic.

I had to walk in and tell my bride. She very sweetly said, “It’s okay, I can do my makeup.”

And something in me immediately went:

“No. Absolutely NOT. Give me what you’ve got.” 😂

So the bride and her bridesmaid started handing me their personal makeup, and I went to work.

No carefully curated professional kit. No products I had specifically chosen for her. No recreating her trial (trial photos have been included here) step-by-step.

Just a face in front of me, whatever products we could gather, and almost 16 years of knowing how to paint a face.

And somehow?

I love her wedding-day makeup even more than her trial. 😍

But what happened this morning gave me something even better than a beautiful finished makeup.

It reignited something in me.

I’ve been a makeup artist since 2010, and somewhere along the way it’s easy for something you’ve done for so long to become a job. Products. Appointments. Timelines. Lashes. Foundations. The routine of it all.

This morning stripped all of that away.

I couldn’t rely on my kit. I couldn’t rely on my usual products or formulas. I had to rely on artistry—color, shape, texture, light, balance, placement, and the face sitting in front of me.

And I remembered:

I really, REALLY love this.

I love painting faces.
I love seeing what is already beautiful about someone and figuring out how to bring it forward.
I love creating.

Maybe forgetting my kit was the professional makeup artist version of a nightmare. 😂

But strangely enough, it reminded me that the artistry was never in the kit.

It was in the artist. ❤️

And THIS beautiful bride trusted me enough to let me prove it. by @kellsi.foster

I’ve never really been a trend person.

Which makes it especially funny when something I’ve loved for YEARS suddenly becomes trendy and I’m like…wait, we all like this now?! 😂

I’ve always been drawn to what I’m drawn to, whether it’s “in” or not. Vintage prints. Rich colors. Weird little details. Shaggy hair. Boots. Things that feel a little bohemian, a little rock & roll, a little outdoorsy, a little feminine, and like they could have been pulled from several different decades. Even my home decor has always been a mashup of aesthetics 😂

I don’t particularly care if I’m “supposed” to wear something at 36 or 46, or 66. I don’t want every new season of my life to require becoming a different, more socially acceptable version of myself.

I just want to look like Kellsi.

And I think what I’m realizing lately is that I never actually lost my personal style.

I stopped expressing it.

Somewhere over the last several years, getting dressed became much more practical. I wore what fit. What I could find. What felt safe. What I could make work.

And without really noticing it, I started editing myself out of my own closet.

That’s the part I’m changing now.

Not by reinventing myself or chasing a new aesthetic, but by remembering what I’ve always loved and letting myself wear it again.

I’ve learned some really helpful things along the way about color, proportion and what works especially well on me but I don’t want THOSE things to become another set of rules either.

I want the final question to be much simpler:

Does this feel like ME?

And this does.

The paisley. The riding boots. The warm brown. The black. The gold jewelry. The shag. The mix of feminine + earthy + vintage + slightly rock & roll.

None of it feels like I’m trying to become somebody.

It feels like I stopped trying to dress around myself.

And maybe that’s what personal style is supposed to be anyway—not dressing like your age, your body type, your current season, or whatever TikTok decided we’re all wearing this year (seriously…please stop it 😂)

I’m just trying to let my outside tell more of the truth about the person living inside! 💕 by @kellsi.foster

I’ve been doing something really fun—and honestly, a little healing. 🥹

I’ve been using AI (I know, don’t come at me!! 🫣) to help me create outfits that feel deeply, unmistakably ME—colorful, soulful, vintage, playful, a little rock-and-roll, and full of the textures and details I’m naturally drawn to.

But I’m not only asking, “Do I like this outfit?”

I’m also learning how to bring all the pieces together: my personal style and essence, my Soft Gamine Kibbe lines, and the rich, warm, saturated colors that make me come alive. I’m seeing how the right proportions, hemlines, shapes, textures, and colors can work with my body instead of making me feel like my body is the problem.

And I wanted to do this now.

Not someday when I’ve lost the postpartum weight.
Not when my measurements are smaller.
Not when I feel like I’ve finally “earned” beautiful clothes again.

Now—while my body is still soft and different. While I’m still learning how to recognize myself in it. While it has carried, birthed, and continues to nourish my baby.

I don’t want to spend this entire season hiding, criticizing myself, or postponing beauty until I occupy less space. I want to learn how to dress the woman I am today—in a way that feels joyful, expressive, flattering, and completely alive.

I can still have goals for my body while treating my current body like it deserves to be seen, celebrated, and beautifully dressed.

And honestly? Seeing myself represented this way is helping me realize that beauty was never waiting for me at a smaller size. 💛 by @kellsi.foster

Day 1.

Not because I’m trying to become someone new, but because I’m finally choosing to take care of the woman I’ve been neglecting. The woman I’ve always been but didn’t always allow myself to be.

Seven weeks ago I gave birth to my sweet little boy. ❤️ Before that, I spent months growing him. Now it’s time to slowly, patiently care for myself again.

I’ve had a complicated relationship with my body for as long as I can remember. Things that were said to me growing up—and throughout the years—left me believing that my worth somehow depended on being small, fit, or a certain size. I KNOW that that’s simply not true. When I look at others, I KNOW that’s not true and I don’t see them that way. But I’ve had to do a lot of mindset work over the years to fully believe it about myself though!

This isn’t about chasing a number on the scale.

It’s about feeling alive again. Moving my body in ways I enjoy. Doing things that fill my cup. And speaking to myself the same way I know God does!

Over the next little while, I’m sharing this journey one day at a time as I intentionally care for myself:
🧠 Mentally
💪 Physically
🤍 Emotionally
✨ Spiritually

Some days will be amazing. Some will be messy. But I want to show up anyway, because I know the life I’m meant for isn’t built in one giant leap—it’s built in today’s choices. And today I choose JOY!

So...here’s to Day 1. 🌿

If you’ve ever felt like you needed to become “less” before you were worthy…maybe this journey is for you too. ❤️ by @kellsi.foster

I’m not having a glow up.
I’m having a return.

Relearning who I am.
Being okay with her.
Letting her be wild — and still worthy. 🖤🌿🕯️

A lot of people like to say that color season analysis isnt real or that it doesn’t matter and you should just “wear whatever color you want”….and YES, it’s true, you SHOULD absolutely wear whatever you want…but as an artist and makeup artist, no matter how much you wanna say that color doesn’t affect you, I’m here to tell you that’s a liiiie….Color theory is soo real in art on a canvas as well as on a human canvas. Some colors and tones just do NOT work in harmony with each other, whether it’s on a piece of paper or on the human body. We each have unique shades, tones, and undertones and some things bring out the worst (shadows in unwanted places, purpling, redness, maybe even wash us out entirely and make us look ill) while others make us absolutely ✨SHINE ✨ because they’re working WITH our natural color palettes and not against…

I’m nearly 5 months pregnant and am SO grateful I discovered my color season this time around (pregnancy #4) because dressing in it has truly helped me to feel like I LOOK like a million bucks, even if I don’t always feel amazing physically…

Do you know YOUR color season, and have you been dressing in it? I wanna know! Tell me below! 👇🏻
