FUTURE TENSE is going on tour. ❤️

I’m calling it The Wear Red Tour.

Wear a red dress or red lipstick. Red shoes or a red sweater. Red underwear if that’s your thing. Wear whatever makes you feel a little braver💃🏻

These won’t just be readings. We’ll laugh. We’ll probably cry. There will be an interactive writing moment at every stop because I want you to leave with more than a signed book—I want you to leave with new words and a new idea of what your capable of. To remind yourself of the person you’re becoming! ❤️

After years of writing these poems, I can’t believe I finally get to sit in the same room with you.

I can’t wait to see you very, very soon, friend.

❤️ Wear red.
📖 Bring a friend.
✍️ Write what matters.

Tickets for each city are in my bio, or coming so so soon!

What city will I see you in? Tag the friend you’re bringing with you. ❤️ by @kellygracethomas

SEATTLE ❤️ This one’s for you. This is the last poem in Future Tense, and one of my favorites. I once heard the advice that the last poem in a collection should be every poem. That feels almost true here. Here is my heart, past, present, and future tense.

Tonight, I’ll be reading this book alongside three extraordinary poets at Third Place Books in Ravenna. If you’re in Seattle, I’d love to see you there. ❤️

Kelly Grace Thomas released her much anticipated second poetry collection this week, Future Tense (Alice James Books), an elegantly crafted narrative about the speaker's journey to motherhood as she's losing her own mother to uterine cancer. Each section of Future Tense recounts a year—starting with a new marriage, a desire to have children, and a longing to be closer to loved ones. As time passes, that dream becomes more complex. For anyone who has experienced infertility or lost a parent to cancer, this collection chronicles both in achingly beautiful verse.

FUTURE TENSE IS OUT IN THE WORLD TODAY. ❤️
I cannot even begin to express the depth of my gratitude and excitement. Kavah Akbar writes, “Art is where what we survive survives.”

It has been an incredible, heartbreaking, and ultimately transformative experience to take one of the hardest things I’ve ever lived through and turn it into a memoir in verse.

But Future Tense is so much more than that. It’s a community. A conversation. A celebration of our strength and a reminder that we can survive and make art out of impossible things, especially together.

Thank you to @alicejamesbooks@and especially to @careylinnae for believing in this book. Writing this book changed me in ways I never expected. My hope is that, in reading it, you might find a little of yourself here, too. Oceans of gratitude to my friends, family, and readers for your endless love and support.

Thank you for reading, reviewing, sharing, preordering, and helping this book find its way into the world. I am so grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.

I hope to see you on tour or at the virtual launch, dressed in a little—or a lot—of red. 💃🏻

Let’s paint the town red and remind the world that we are brave, we are resilient, and we are unbreakable. Especially together 📕❤️📕 by @kellygracethomas

FUTURE TENSE by Kelly Grace Thomas is officially out in the world! 🎉

Reckoning with infertility, adoption, and love under pressure, FUTURE TENSE is a searing memoir-in-verse about a woman’s fight to become a mother while losing her own.

“As the collection unfolds, Future Tense learns how deeply love is entangled with endurance. The poems widen to hold grief and arrival in the same hands, writing toward care, astonishment, and gratitude, the wisdom of waiting and loss.”
—Diannely Antigua
