DEAD HANG CHALLENGE 🥅 Your bodyweight in kilos = seconds to hang. My toughest dead hang so far 🫠

Came up with this idea and couldn't get it out of my head...

Could I really do this? Hang with my own bodyweight strapped to me - like a whole other person - and just hang there for that same amount of time in seconds... is that even a thing?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

So, I had to try it.
And this was the result.
Not at all what I expected 🤯

Shout out to my superb time-keeping & cheering-on squad @functionalmovement101 and @clare_calisthenics 🫡

ℹ️ Bw: 58.5kg / 128.97lbs
ℹ️ Height: 5ft 5in / 165cm

Anyone else trying this one? 🤝🏼

Tagging a few extra strong peeps who have done some crazy hang challenges and might fancy giving this one a go 💪🏻

⚠️ I wouldn't even attempt this challenge unless you can hang by your own bodyweight (no additional weight) for at least 1 min.

Revisiting the deadhang challenge with a new 🎯 of 2 mins & a cheeky ending I couldn't resist (despite the forearm burn) 💪🏻🫠

What a response from my last deadhang reel! Totally shocked me how many people took an interest in this challenge - and how many of you are already doing this kind of strength training! Some seriously strong-minded people out there which is amazing.

I don't train dead hangs every session (god that would be boring), or even weekly - but they're fun to throw in every now and then to gauge upper body strength & I actually find the first minute or so really therapeutic - decompression of the spine feels sooo good 🤤

Was thrilled to reach 2 mins but it was tough going 🥵🤌🏻

Hoping to inspire more of you to try this fun but tough challenge & continue to spread positive vibes in the fitness/gym community ✨🙏🏻

Shout out to @arniethe2.0 for his 👋🏼 during this hang (hilarious).

Who's trying this next? 😎
Tag me in your attempts!

Starting the year with a quick grip strength test to see how this 40+ yr old body holds up.. actually went a lot more smoothly than I thought it was going to. Might shoot for 2 mins next time 🤪

Targets for optimum muscle mass & signs of longevity are:
🎯 90 secs (1m 30secs) for females between 40-50
🎯 120 secs (2 mins) for males between 40-50

Who's trying this one next? 🙋🏼‍♀️💪🏻

I've tagged a few of you in this - let me know how you get on - for some it will be a walk in the park 😉

POV: you're not the main character in your own workout 😄

Finally gave the 10kg Russians a try & surprised myself with a few decent reps of this challenging variation 🙌🏻

Was hoping for a nice 5 but (and here come the excuses 😂), I'd just done 5 at 5kg, 5 at 7.5kg and 2 sets of 20kg max reps, so fatigue was setting into my old arms at this point 🫠

Reckon I could get these to 5-10 reps pretty soon though 😜

Thanks to my chirpy cheerleader @sx_calisthenix for the extra support and push along the way! 🤗❤️

Now you're just getting greedy 🍴😋

Refining the 1, now chasing the 2 🏃🏼‍♀️💨

First rodeo on Aerial Silks and I was humbled by this delicate fabric 😅

My foot locking was utterly terrible (needed a lot of assistance) and I pretty much relied entirely on my upper body strength to do anything, but it was soooo much frickin' fun and I would happily run away with any circus tomorrow 🙌🏻🙃🎪🤹

Big thanks to Chrissy and Molly at @essex.circus.academy for their awesome instruction, despite my ability to forget most of it at critical moments. Your patience was so appreciated 🙏🏻

And thanks for making this happen @sx_calisthenix 💜

Left 2021 v Right currently

The photo on the left is from one of Kelly’s first 121 sessions in December 2021. Her goal was to bulk and gain muscle. She also wanted to be able to do pull ups and push ups with ease 😮‍💨

‘Tekkers’ (my nick name for her because of her impeccable form and technique) has worked her arse off, and, consistently 🙌🏻
She has gained so much strength enabling her to do weighted reps, and unlock movements such as RMU and BMU 🫡

Im very proud of you Kelly 🥹

47 and bloody proud to be rocking a strong & determined bod 💪🏻💯😄

I didn't start calisthenics because I wanted to look a certain way. I got hooked on the feeling of learning things I once couldn't do.

It's just a brucie bonus that my physique has become the best it's ever been 🙌🏻

There's something quite addictive about discovering that getting older doesn't have to mean becoming less capable.

Still learning, still getting stronger and definitely not finished by any stretch of the imagination 😜💪🏻✨

HUUUGE shout out to Tom @nomadmedia.productions - the creative eye behind the camera - for these killer shots 📸🔥 Love how these turned out 🙏🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻
