Proud moment alert 🚨

Last night I was named in the #BIMA100 Class of 2026 – recognised in the Strategists & Consultants category.

Having spent the last 2 years flying the flag for lifestyle agencies, I’m buzzing that BIMA have recognised the importance and impact of my work to support them - validating my vision to change the negative perception of lifestyle agencies!

Thanks so much to @bima_hq_ to the judges and to all my clients for trusting me. Honoured to be up there with these 100 outstanding individuals. by @kellymolson

Despite running an agency for 20+ years, I’ve never actually run a business solo before, so this first month of Kelly Molson Consulting has been quite the eye opener for me.

I’ve felt exhilarated to have full ownership of ‘my thing’, what I do and how I spend my time. I kinda had that before, but this feels like a positive shift in my mindset that it’s just me I have to answer to (and I’m a great boss).

I guess with any new business, I’m still finding my way. And although I know my strengths, it’s been exciting to get involved with the big picture stuff again after a couple of years fully immersed in the new business generation role.

Things I’ve been supporting on:
✅ Goal setting - one agency I’m working with is going to achieve all their 2 year goals in year 1
✅ Repositioning an exciting web agency into the tech-for-good space
✅ Developing a niche strategy and aligning this with the founders personal brand
✅ Talent optimisation - when to hire and who
✅ Marketing differentiation - developing the strategy for a groundbreaking thought leadership piece
✅ Lead generation strategy - for new business and defining Client Development Plans for existing

Things I’ve learned:
💡The first thing I tell my clients is to say no more. I need to take my own advice.
💡I’m extremely good at seeing what the ‘block’ is in others, but I need that same advice back.
💡Being ghosted when the product you’re selling is you, is a much harder pill to swallow.
💡I’ve missed working directly with the attractions sector.
💡I’ve LOVED being back in the agency world again.
💡You need to find your tribe.
I’m lucky to have a great network cheering me on, but a special shout out to Mat Bennet, Gabe Whitehead for support on the mentoring side, @jowoodford for an invaluable community and Jo Cooper for a super interesting referral.

What’s next?
May is filled with more of the same. Starting my monthly mentoring programme with a couple of awesome agencies, running a strategy workshop and finally back at the M+H Show to chair a day of fabulous speakers.

If any of that sounds like something you need, pop me a message.

One of my favourite things about this work is seeing founders go from feeling busy and reactive… to clear, confident and intentional.

That's exactly what happened with Lee and the team at @wearepolar.

When we started working together, the agency was already doing brilliant work. What was missing was the strategic framework to consistently attract the clients they really wanted to work with.

Together, we focused on:

> Sharpening positioning
> Refining the value proposition
> Building a stronger outreach strategy
> Creating a healthier pipeline
> Making better decisions with less stress

The result?

An 85% increase in profit within a year and a business that felt far more aligned with the future Lee wanted to build.

It's a lovely reminder that growth isn't always about doing more.

Sometimes it's about getting clearer.

Sometimes the most valuable thing a founder can get isn't advice... it's space.

Space to think. Space to reflect. Space to work out what actually matters next.

A Download Day client said:

"The most significant outcomes for me were a renewed enthusiasm for the business, a clear vision for its growth, and a defined pathway to achieve it."

That renewed enthusiasm matters.

When you're deep in the day-to-day of agency life, it's easy to lose sight of why you started in the first place.

Download Days create the space to step back from delivery, zoom out, and look at the business properly.

Not just where it is today, but where it's going, what's getting in the way, and what needs to happen next.

The result isn't more things to do. it's clarity, direction, and confidence in the path ahead.

When most people hear "lifestyle agency", they usually imagine a tiny business....

Gareth Hoyle's agency looks a little different.

20 people
Fully remote
Four-day, 32-hour week
£2m turnover

In this week's episode of Lifestyle is a Plan, we talk about how he's spent two decades building an agency around the life he wants to live.

We get into:

> Whether lifestyle was the plan from the beginning
> His personal Founder Success Criteria
> The systems that support growth without burnout
> Why Marketing Signals adopted a four-day week
> Whether a lifestyle agency can still be sellable in the future

I loved this conversation because it challenges so many assumptions about what a lifestyle agency can look like.

Missed a few episodes of Lifestyle is a Plan recently?

This August I'm revisiting some of the conversations that challenge the traditional agency playbook.

These guests are all building businesses differently - choosing flexibility, sustainability and intentional growth over doing things "the way agencies are supposed to."

Recent episodes include:

> Ginny Nicholls on building a £1m business with zero employees

> Tom Salmon on the rise of independent agencies and why founders are choosing freedom over aggressive growth

> Carys Dorritt on creating a career returner agency model that works for real life @polkadigital

> Lee Sturgess on taking an Essex agency to the global stage by doing less, better @wearepolar

If you're interested in building an agency around the life you want (rather than the other way around) these conversations are a great place to start.

Does life-work balance really exist?

Honestly, I'm not sure it does.

For years, I tried to keep work and life on opposite ends of a see-saw. Strict boundaries. Strict working hours. Clear separation.

And yet I constantly felt like I was failing at both.

Over time, I've found that a life-work blend works much better for me. Not because work comes first. Quite the opposite. Because it allows me to build a business around my life, rather than trying to squeeze life around my business.

My latest blog is a personal one.

It covers everything from nearly burning out while running my agency, to becoming a parent, navigating eight rounds of IVF, and the lessons I've learned about putting life first.

Most importantly, it's about building a business that supports the life you actually want.

If your pipeline's looking dry right now, try the 3xC approach I follow:

Clarity 💡
Get clarity on audience and clarity of message.

Dig out your ICP and ask if their pain points are still relevant.
Has anything changed, are there new threats, challenges or opportunities to add?

Your key messages may need to be tweaked and refined so you’re actually addressing their burning issues.

Consistency 📆
Now’s not the time to bury your head in the sand. It’s time to embrace a consistent level of activity, whatever method you use.

Block out regular time in your diary for outreach, emails and Linkedin posts (if that's where your ICP hangs out), and set yourself weekly KPIs as a motivator.

> I book weekly Power Hours in my diary to message new connections and be helpful - not sell.
> I post useful content consistently, 3 times a week.
> I fill my Insight Bank (insights and helpful stuff relevant to your ideal client) to stay informed and support others.

Conversation 🗣
Conversation creates opportunity.

Whether that’s booking in virtual 1-2-1 calls, attending events where your ICP will be or building relationships with others who already hold influence on your ideal clients. Think agency partners, associations or leaders in the space.

Working within the capacity you have, on things you like doing, means you’re more likely to actually do them.

If in-person works, do that.
If online is more convenient, go for it.

One 30 min 1-2-1 virtual call each day adds up to 20+ new people met each month, which may be easier to fit into your schedule than 2 breakfast, lunch or evening in-person events.

Things may feel wild, but you can control the action you take and the consistency you put out.

48 years ago a breakthrough in science gave hope to millions of people dreaming of having a family. Today, around 1 in 31 children born in the UK are conceived via IVF.

Our path was long and complicated, but one of the best decisions we ever made was booking a flight to Athens for 48hrs to meet Penny and the team at @ivfserum
When the first thing your consultant does is embrace you in the warmest of hugs, you feel cared for like never before. They showed us kindness and compassion and ultimately helped us bring our daughter home.

IVF is no miracle, but to have it is a gift.

She started reception as an excited, just turned 4 year old. Now she leaves as a still excited, just turned 5 year old - who’s made beautiful friendships and loves painting, reading, writing.

Her enthusiasm for learning seems never ending, it’s magic to watch. I’m in total awe of her and the fantastic teachers she’s had this year.

But these last few weeks has been a lot.
She is exhausted. We’re all exhausted.
The summer holidays can’t come soon enough.

I know it’s tough, I know it’s a crazy, challenging, stressful juggle. But something I read a long time ago is ringing loud in my ears.

“Your weekends are their childhood.”

That hits hard. Especially when my husband works weekends as a wedding photographer. Holidays are even more important for us.

I started and designed this business to be able to spend more time with her and him. They are the biggest driver of an aspect of my founder success criteria - being able to take quality time off when she has holidays. And I’m helping my clients do the same.

We’ll never get another 5 year old summer with her again.

I've been off most of this week, juggling the next two and then closing the laptop from 6th August till September.

Bring on the summer fun!
And I’ll take the bergar please. by @kellymolson

Your client only has around 8% of their working week to spend with you.

That stat stopped me in my tracks.

In this week's podcast, I sat down with Jo Rogers of client.success.matters to talk about retaining and growing client accounts when you don't have dedicated account managers.

Because let's be honest, lots of smaller agencies don't.

We talk about:

> What a brilliant onboarding process looks like
> How to consistently demonstrate value
> Growing accounts without over-delivering
> Becoming a trusted advisor rather than just a supplier
> Spotting opportunities before clients ask for them

It's practical, thoughtful, and especially relevant if you're wearing both founder and account manager hats.
