It’s kinda sweet to see 2023 condensed into a colorful blur of FOOD, FRIENDS, and FRUIT. Running around and tumbling from one week into the next- didn’t want to miss the chance to say that Pie Day was a success! A grand time all around- love slinging pie, hollering to Hannah in the Creemee Truck, and having a front row seat to everyone picking out their Mums, Pumpkins, and Apples. Let’s do it again next year @mainemaplecreemeeco !

PIE A LA CARTE PIE A LA MODE! This Sunday at Snell Farm w/ Maine Maple Creemee Co. We’ll start slinging pie and ice cream at 11:30 (goin’ till 3 or sold out). I’m making 4 (or 5) kinds of pie (pears pending). You can enjoy it on its own or with a swirl o’ Creemee. I recommend the latter.

Carolyn’s hosting a Flower Bar-days for fresh flowers are numbered my friends! @carolyn.snell

Milkweed Coffee will be there with something cozy to sip on! Tis the season, etc. @milkweedcoffeeroasters

AND there are a lot of apples on the trees just waiting for you to pick them! Make a note, mark your calendars, see you Sunday!

ALSO Pre-order for pick up at Moonday is open! Sweet Potato Layer Cake is present as promised. MARI will be CLOSED next week for a wedding. So no pastries 10/15-10/18.

I’ve been giving grapes all the fanfare- the new tomato danish hasn’t gotten any attention at all!Gotta fix that. Snell Farm Tomatoes, Fennel, Shelburne Farms cheddar cheese-inspired by @analog.pizza ! Fennel and tomato is by no means a novel combination, but I didn’t really consider the pairing much until my month of weekly pizza dinners during Analog’s residency at Snell Farm. Now whenever I taste or encounter those flavors, I know I’m gonna have Analog pizza nostalgia! Love tomato and fennel together, and love watching my friends make stuff. SOMERSET GRAPES will steal your heart. Very grateful to Murphy Family Farm for introducing me to these beautiful buddies. Fruit or gems???? Hard to say! Putting a small number of these up for pre-order this week. Strawberry diplomat cream & strawberry macerated Somerset grapes in a sea salt & vanilla tart shell. Tender Table Night Market was a joyful roller coaster last week. I went from worrying over the menu and the rain- to dancing and boxing up cake with my buddies! Very grateful to be a part of the Tender Table Community- @paletmaine summarized the evening with the phrase “The Joy of Being”. Couldn’t be more accurate!

I’ve been tumbling from one event to the next these last few months- looking forward to catching my breath, looking over some film, and getting the time to celebrate all of the adventures the bakery has been on this Summer. For now, I’m loading up the pastry case one more time! See you all at Bumbleroot Farm this Saturday from 9-1. My dream of MARI English muffin shop came alive at Tomato Fest last week! Would love to have them on the menu everyday…someday perhaps! The bakery was very busy celebrating fruit last week. Looking forward to getting some film back with Apple Camp photos! More on that when I have photos to share. This weekend is a big one for weddings. Pre-order is closed, but pastries will be available at Moonday as usual! See you at the shop friends!

What shines brightest for me out of the busy-ness last week is how sweet it is to know and meet so many folks who put so much love and care into their work and into celebrating our local farmers and produce. Very grateful that this community of makers and growers exists. Tomato Fest Round 2! This Sunday at Snell Farm. Check out this ridiculous list of cool kids making amazing things with tomatoes, complimentary to tomatoes, and inspired by tomatoes! I’ll be there, and I’m bringing English Muffins for making Tomato Grilled Cheese! Big thanks to @sisslecheesemongers for guiding me in the cheese department.

Another note about this week, I’ll be up at MOFGA’s Apple Camp Friday and Saturday, and at the Tomato Festival on Sunday… Pre-order for Moonday will be closed, and we’ll be keeping to it some core items in the case. Looking forward to celebrating more fruit with y’all this weekend!

My favorite fruit x fruit combination is peaches and raspberries. Peaches tend to run sweet and sunny-they’re a really great match for the bright flavor journey of a raspberry! Danishes are an excellent vehicle for fruit…I’m gonna keep these on the menu for as long as I can.

This weekend is the last one for pre-order for a bit friends! Events are taking over for the next few weeks. A brief little schedule of where I’ll be:

8/28 & 8/29 Apple Camp! by @mofga (this event is at capacity I believe)

8/30 Snell Farm Tomato Festival (more on this later, but there will be English Muffin Tomato Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!!!)

9/5 - 9/6 Booked for a weekend of Weddings Cakes!

You’re looking at the ONE photo I snapped during MARI A LA MODE on the Creemee truck yesterday. It was truly a PIE FRENZY. Pie took over my brain a little bit this week. I can definitely say that I had more pie than I had sleep…No regrets! We were excited, and I wanted to get as many pie slices to as many folks as I could. That being said, yesterday gave me a gentle nudge- sometime soon MARI is going to have to grow beyond just these two hands I think friends…

Beyond the existential bakery thoughts, my big take away yesterday was BOY AM I LUCKY to have found myself rolling with the Snell Farm Pop Up Crew. It is truly wild to watch in real time as the joy that my friends put into their work sparks joy in others. It’s a real gift to witness the creativity and care that these folks put into the things that they make, and I’m so grateful that they’re willing to share it with all of us! Truly an honor to watch @analog.pizza come to life out of a pizza cloud yesterday. I don’t know if y’all have ever noticed how people light up when @mainemaplecreemeeco hands them an ice cream cone. Who needs a toy store when you have access to an @carolyn.snell Flower Bar? Try not to smile when you’ve got tiny little carrot cake earrings made by @catmintcrafts on. I dare you. If you haven’t been out to Snell for one of these events-I don’t know what else to say besides YOU HAVE TO! It’s really just the best. Pie and ice cream and friends…WHAT A DREAM. We’ll have to do it again sometime. by @kelseymari_
