Common loon linocut print 🖤

This piece is a special dedication to my fondest childhood memories! We used to camp at a northern lake, where we would watch the sunset and listen to the loons call all through the morning and evening. Being able to make handmade art that represents such amazing memories is so special.

Now that I live on the ocean, I’m lucky enough to see these beautiful birds throughout the winter, but I sure do miss hearing that iconic summer call.

This was my first time making a linocut jigsaw print!

I usually make reduction prints when I’m working with multiple colours, so this was a totally different process for me. There’s something so satisfying about watching all the pieces come together into one final print.

I adore how this orca turned.

I think I’ll definitely be making more jigsaw linocuts. What do you think?

I love how this spring inspired linocut print came out! I really enjoy walking around a marsh in the spring and listening to the birds singing! I especially love the chattering of the wrens as they bounce around in the reeds. They are so full of spunk and life!

This orca print was so fun! I switched to a jigsaw style instead of a traditional reduction linocut block and I quite enjoyed it. I usually default to using reduction when the colors touch but this one wasn’t all too bad.

This was probably the first piece I made that made me feel like I could actually pursue this. I am so proud of how this came out and how far I’ve come with this art style.

See what was on my workbench last month!

September was largely dedicated to planning and organization. October will be all about carving and printing. I am busy getting everything ready for a packed season of Christmas markets starting this November!

I am so obsessed with how this great blue heron linocut print came out! It’s been a hectic last month trying to stock up for 6 upcoming Christmas markets! Seeing this final edition come together makes all the hard work worth it.

The making of the cutest raccoon linoprint 🥺

I am obsessed with how this block printed! I really love raccoons and since moving to the coast I’ve seen them quite a bit more often. They are so stinkin cute!

This nature inspired linocut print was a fun one to make. I’ve been making larger prints lately and forgot how fun the smaller ones are!

The scariest part of linocut to me is cutting apart the block. Whether it’s for a jigsaw print or simply removing extra space, I am ALWAYS waiting and expecting to accidentally slice all my hard work in half.

This step officially makes my block ready for printing. Stay tuned to see how it comes out.

This was originally a failed print 😬 I made this exact block on battleship grey lino and couldn’t get it to print no matter how hard I tried!!

I ended up switching back to soft pink rubber, and had a much better time with this print. Maybe a sign to get a printing press for my linocut art🤪

I love how these swallows turned out. My inspo was watching barn swallows glide over the water in pursuit of bugs.

Would you do this in other colors?
