Photos from our first of hopefully many more @atlhealingcollective collaborative yoga and breathwork workshops at Freedom Park on Sunday, Oct. 20th. Not only was it healing to be in community and movement with you all, we also raised hundreds for @gaza.funds in a short two hours. Thank you. See you again soon and free Palestine ♥️ taken in Freedom Park by @kelsrm_

This Sunday Oct. 20th at 5:30PM in Freedom Park, weather permitting: @atlhealingcollective x @refaatlibraryatl is hosting a community gathering featuring breath and movement practices from library volunteer @kelskhalili and @ciaralynnae. Sunday’s sessions will focus on finding our inner poem and exploring how that poem can sustain our good fight towards liberation. Movement is not necessary; you’re welcome to just come read in the park! We’ll also be talking a bit about the library, how it came to be and how it all works. Sign up ahead of time at bit.ly/atlhealingcollective. 100% of donations earned at the event will go to @gaza.funds.

The following is reposted from @atlhealingcollective:

Location: Freedom Park at the corner of N Druid Place and Moreland AVE.

Logistics: Bring water, sun protection, and your own mat if you have one (we’ll have a few mats to lend out.) We’ll have light snacks/drinks post class :)

Covid info: Masking and distancing is encouraged and optional - if we have to shift indoors because of weather masking will be required. We’ll have high filtration masks (KN95 or N95) masks on-site. Please stay home if you feel sick. Also, consider getting the new Covid booster (became available last fall) as well as the flu vaccine if you are able.

Accessibility Info: There is free street parking by the park. The Edgewood-Candler Park Marta station is about 20 minute walk away, and the Freedom Park trail runs by where we’ll be. The location is at the top of a grassy hill, under trees (not wheelchair accessible.)

About Us: Atlanta Healing Collective came together when several yoga teachers noticed that the larger yoga world was staying silent on Palestine. We did not have the answers, but we found that when we were willing to step into the unknown hand in hand that we were able to build capacity and resiliency to keep showing up to ask the questions. 30 today.

I’d be lying if I said that I had not felt any resistance to this day over the last few months. I’m in a period of massive change and transition. I’ve felt fearful of the unknown, fearful of what comes next.

But while reflecting on these feelings, I’ve discovered how much of a friend the unknown was to me during the darkness of my twenties. I attribute my survival to the unknown, the magnificent maybe, the great perhaps that things could get better, that I could find new ways of being that I had not discovered yet.

Today is my birthday and I am living in a country that funds g3nocid3s and ec0cides across the world for profit. But I believe that when we practice mutual aid, we are making an offering to the unknown. I believe when we offer our help to others we begin to plant seeds for the possibility of a better world. And I believe the unknown hears us.

Today, I ask for you to send funds to @refaatlibraryatl , a volunteer led political education station that sends funds to G@za. No longer will we just stare into the abyss, but jump into it with the intention of a better tomorrow. taken in Catskill Mountains by @kelsrm_

Systems of oppression are fighting tooth and nail to have us believe that genocide is normal, inadequate healthcare is normal, hunger is normal, ignoring the houseless person on the way home is normal. They’ll try to distract us with celebrities, “binge worthy tv shows,” consumption, consumption, consumption. They’ll try to have us so exhausted from being production machines that we will forget to even question if it is normal or not.

The Earth did not sit down one day and write “this is the way of things.” Your body knows that this is not normal because your body is of the Earth.

When we sit with our bodies, acknowledging the abnormality of genocide, ecocide, mass incarceration, and so on - we give ourselves permission to reclaim our agency from the systems that try to take it away. We give ourselves permission to listen to the messages of the Earth. We give ourselves permission to remember that other ways of being are possible and we have the collective means to get there. We give ourselves permission to act. by @kelsrm_
