What better way to spend a rainy day than baking? 🤎

I’ve really been enjoying cooking from scratch lately, & with the weather being so miserable outside, it seemed like the perfect excuse to spend a little time in the kitchen trying something new! 🥳

I recently treated myself to a new cookbook by @fromscratchwithbob from @kempsmalton, & there are so many lovely recipes I can’t wait to try. First up was his sticky toffee pudding, although my first attempt didn’t quite go to plan when I somehow managed to forget to add the eggs (I know, HOW?!) 😂 Thankfully, the second attempt was much more successful! 🍁

A lovely soft sponge smothered in rich butterscotch sauce, served warm with lashings of @brymoricecream. Just the sort of comforting pudding you want on a cold, rainy day, & it certainly went down a treat with the family! 🤎🍂

From April 2027, pubs, clubs and live-music venues will receive a 20% reduction in business rates and, @andy.burnham, we noticed bookshops were excluded...

Rising business rates make it harder for independent bookshops like Kemps to grow, thrive, and continue doing what we love: bringing brilliant books, ideas, and people together. We’re a small & mighty team, and we believe indies are a vital part of our vibrant local communities - both of which are filled with so many wonderful small businesses! Of course we're backing the @booksellersassociation's call for targeted business rates relief for bookshops. Because it's kinda Kemps to advocate for indie bookshops. 💙

I spent the day in Malton with Hettie from @theyorkshirepartridge, starting with coffee at @roost_coffee where we spent a few hours chatting all things content, social media & brainstorming lots of exciting ideas. There’s something brilliant about having conversations and sharing ideas.

Afterwards, we wandered around the beautiful market town of Malton. I used to have relatives in the area, so every visit brings back so many good memories.

As someone with a huge passion for food photography and all things food, being in Malton – a real foodie hub – is always a treat. One of my highlights was visiting @kempsmalton who have recently launched a fantastic new cookery section alongside their existing shop. I absolutely loved browsing the incredible collection of cookbooks, and I couldn’t miss their brilliant “Pan-tree” (yes, a tree made from pans! 🌳🍳), created in collaboration with local blacksmith, Piers Edsall who is also an artist for @enviromental_art_studio. Such a fun & creative feature!

We also popped into @cosycottagesoap, where the calming scents hit you the moment you walk through the door. It was lovely meeting the team & chatting about what I do. I loved learning that all of their natural products are handmade right here in Malton, & that they collaborate with other fantastic local businesses, including @officalnavyprofessional & @seagrown. I will be using the natural surface cleaner spray which will definitely come in handy with the cooking videos.

It really was a great day to be in Malton—catching up over coffee, meeting new people, discovering inspiring independent businesses & enjoying a little nostalgia along the way.
