Gave the studio a good clean today and boy she needed it. Getting to the point where I have to move stuff to get to other stuff…and I continue to acquire more art supplies!

Also finished two oil paintings today!! I am prepping for my upcoming show and have quite a few in process at the moment.

I literally can’t wait for you to see some of the work I’ve been doing this year!! Please stick around for some reveals in the next few weeks.

Today was a blissful day in the studio. I have so much to do, preparing for my upcoming show (eek!) but on days like this I remember that I do this because I love it. I push myself because I love it.

There’s a quote from (in my opinion, a cinematic masterpiece) Sister Act 2, where the main character says “if you wake up in the morning, and all you can think about is singing, then you should be a singer, girl”. And most days I wake up thinking about painting.

It is not always blissful- I become overwhelmed with framing choices, varnishing processes, ordering print packaging, and frustrated that I do not seem to have enough time in the day.

But oh - days like today- to open the window and hear the kids play down the street, while I put my brush to canvas on a new work, yet to take shape! A good day indeed.

I was talking about Taylor Swift with a friend recently (I know, I know, stay with me) and we commented on how her songwriting feels deeply personal, and raw, and specific— and yet what many people love about her is the way they can relate to her music. How are both of those things true at once??

It made me think about the subject matter of my paintings, how I want people to connect with the subject, and yet I must draw from my own specific experiences.

Maybe…there’s a magical sweet spot between what is relatable and what is personal.

I think that’s one of the reasons this “Midnight Oil” painting has gone over so well- it’s been one of my top selling prints for years now! I think people see it and think of memories and conversations held there.

And there’s something beautiful about their memories and conversations being different than mine, yet still we share this connection.

One of my goals for the year was to branch out into new subject matter! I do love a still life, but I thought adding this twist on it made for a unique piece! What are we carrying? What are we taking with us in our “on-the-go” lives? Who does this bag belong to, what does her life look like? Why are each of these items significant?
