Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude! I’ve been waiting a long time to see my name mentioned in the same sentence as the AUDELCO AWARDS. Wow! We’re nominated! 🎊🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️ #Repost @actwithjamil

AN AUDELCO AWARD NOMINATION FOR BEST REVIVAL!

Thrilled to share that our production of The Mountaintop at Mile Square Theatre in Hoboken, NJ, has received an AUDELCO Award nomination for Best Revival!

Written by the brilliant Katori Hall, this play has always held a special place in my heart. Having portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. onstage myself, stepping into the director’s chair gave me an entirely different opportunity to explore the man behind the icon. His humanity, humor, vulnerability, and the weight of knowing that tomorrow is never promised.

A huge congratulations to our incredible cast, Hassiem Muhammad (Dr. King) and Kendra Holloway (Camae), along with Petra Hinds, our Camae understudy. Thank you for your trust, courage, and willingness to dig into the work.

I’m equally grateful to our designers, stage management, crew, and everyone at Mile Square Theatre who helped bring this production to life.

Directing is never a solo endeavor. The work belongs to everyone who helped build it, question it, challenge it, and ultimately share it with an audience.

Thank you to AUDELCO for recognizing our work and continuing to celebrate the contributions of Black theatre artists.

Congratulations to the entire Mountaintop family!

And so the audiobook narration journey begins!!! 🎙️📚

Over the past few months, I’ve been soaking up so much knowledge, building beautiful relationships, & rediscovering my love of reading books (not just scripts) as a member of the 2026 Penguin Random House Audio Narrator Mentorship Program.

Stepping into this new medium feels like opening a new creative door, & I’m so grateful to be walking through it.

A huge thank you to the entire Penguin Audiobook family who have poured so much into my fellow cohorts & me. I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey leads.

Today was my first day in the booth, but it definitely won’t be my last. Stay tuned…❤️🎧

I don’t really take pictures with celebs like that, but I do cherish moments with good people. And this goddess is absolutely one of them. ✊🏾✨

Grateful for the generous, talented, & brilliant spirit that is @erikaalexanderthegreat , & for the beautiful curation of the @audible Story House here in NYC.

If you get a chance to experience this pop-up before the month is out, do it! They are creating innovative, necessary work in storytelling & narration, the kind that reminds you why art really & truly matters. So, don’t miss it!! #itsneccessary #artmakestheworldgoround 🎭🎞️✍🏾🖌️ by @kendra2shay

CAPTIVATING ‘MOUNTAINTOP,’ IS 2026’s BEST N.J. THEATRE PRODUCTION SO FAR” — NJ.com 🔥🔥🔥

What a way to kick things off. Thank you to everyone who joined us for opening week of The Mountaintop. We’re thrilled to share this work and are so proud of the actors and creative team behind it.

Here’s what critics are saying:

🗞 @patrickjmaley , @njdotcom :
“Under the direction of Jamil Mangan, the current production of “The Mountaintop” at Hoboken’s Mile Square Theatre executes Hall’s vision marvelously. Mangan’s direction is smart and nuanced, and his two performers—Hassiem Muhammad as King, Kendra Holloway as Camae —are consistently captivating. The show is excellent and stirring: New Jersey’s best of 2026 so far.”

🗞 @jimjbeat , @njartsnews :
“When the play veers into more surreal territory — and it does, decisively — the production commits fully, trusting the audience to follow along. You’ll need to buckle your seat belt and settle in for a bumpy ride at this point, but trust me, the play nails the landing.”

🗞 @buoyantellen :
“We live in a culture that loves nothing more than pulling the great ones apart — as though we are owed exposure to all the flaws. But Hall does something bolder: she gives us the mess and keeps the man intact. Perhaps the height of any mountain can only be appreciated from its base In that way, King’s greatness, residing imperfectly beside his frailties, makes him more remarkable, not less, and I left the theater closer to him because I came to know him better.”

Week two is here—come see what everyone’s talking about.

📅 Now through May 3
