So, what does LOCAL mean? At KCG, we’re building a grocery store around the farmers, food producers, bakers, makers, and other local businesses that make our region special. That means prioritizing products from our region, bringing together a whole lot of variety, and helping you discover producers you might not have known about otherwise. Not everything can be sourced right around the corner, and that’s okay. We’re intentional about what we carry and where it comes from. That’s local at KCG. 🌱 We’re getting closer to opening this fall, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been putting together! #KennettCommunityGrocer #ShopLocal #LocalFood #KennettSquare #supportfarmers by @kennettcommunitygrocer
Four years ago, KCG co-founder Edie Burkey, shared her vision for what Kennett Community Grocer could become. She imagined a place filled with local food and goods, where our community could connect with the people who grow, make, and produce what we bring home. Four years later, we’re watching that vision become real. Thank you, Edie. Thank you to our board members, volunteers, fellow small businesses, and especially our member-owners who believed in this vision and kept it moving forward. 🌱 What started as an idea has become a community effort—and this fall, we’ll finally get to open the doors. We can’t wait to welcome you in. #comingthisfall #kennettcommunitygrocer #supportlocal #kennettsquare #chestercountypa by @kennettcommunitygrocer

📚 We’re putting together a little book collection for the KCG café! We’d love to fill our café shelf with gently used children’s books for ages birth through 7, so little ones have something to read while their parents enjoy a coffee and pastry. ☕️ We are asking for board books for babies and toddlers, along with picture books and early readers for young children. Have some books at home that could use a new reader? We’d be happy to give them a second life at KCG! Book donations can be dropped off: 📍 Kennett Community Grocer 629 E. Cypress Street, Kennett Square Monday–Friday, 9 AM–12 PM Thank you for helping us make KCG a welcoming place for the whole family! 🍄 #familyandfriends #bookdonation #donate #kennettsquare #local by @kennettcommunitygrocer

A visit to Miss Millie’s Studio! While I was in southern DE, I got to visit Millie Crotty at her studio in Milton, Delaware, to pick up our first order. It was SO cool getting to see her space and all the beautiful work on her shelves! Millie makes small-batch pottery by hand, using playful shapes, bold patterns, and bright colors inspired by nature and her travels. Her pieces have a sculptural quality that makes them feel like little works of art, while still being made to use and enjoy every day. I love all the personality in each piece! I’m so excited to bring Miss Millie Ceramics to KCG and share her beautiful, unique work with our community when we open! 🌈 @missmillieceramics #pottery #ceramics #art #supportlocalart #shoplocal by @kennettcommunitygrocer
⭐️ A family farm with a story to tell: Barnstar Farm Tucked away in Chester County, Barnstar Farm is a small, family-run operation built around a long-held dream of having a farm of their own. Today, the family balances farming part-time with raising animals for their household and growing vegetables for their CSA. Gaige, KCG’s Produce Manager, recently visited the farm to learn more about their operation and growing practices. The family uses organic and regenerative methods, and their work goes well beyond vegetables. They also grow flowers, maintain a native plant garden, keep bees, and make beeswax products like lip balm. They even raise goats for cheesemaking and chickens for fresh eggs! 🐝🐐 Barnstar is another great example of the people and hard work behind the food we eat. #farm #farmerlife #chestercountypa #supportlocal #freshfood https://barnstarfarmcsa.com by @kennettcommunitygrocer
🎉 BIG news: WE HAVE AN OPENING DATE. After eight years of building membership, bringing people together, and working toward a shared vision, Kennett Community Grocer is getting ready to open its doors. It’s hard to believe we’re finally here! There’s been so much work behind the scenes to get to this point, and we’re getting closer every day to welcoming our community into the store. Opening a grocery co-op from the ground up is a huge undertaking. We’ve renovated an entire building, outfitted the space, and invested in everything it takes to operate a market, from commercial refrigeration and shelving to equipment, inventory, and so much more. The costs have added up quickly, and there’s still a lot to do before we open our doors. We’re so grateful to everyone who has stood behind us and believed in this project from the start. Your support is helping us open our doors! We’ve come a long way, and we’re in the home stretch. If you’re able to contribute, your donation will give KCG an even stronger start. 💪 Thank you for your support! 👉 Link in bio! 🔗 kcgrocer.com/donate #supportlocal #kennettsquare #itshappening #freshfood #localart by @kennettcommunitygrocer
🌱 On Thursday, Gaige and I visited Washington Campbell Farming’s urban farm in Newark, Delaware, and it was such a cool experience! Farmer Michelle makes the most of every inch of her yard, growing a variety of heritage crops using sustainable practices. Her farm also focuses on making culturally relevant foods more accessible to the community. She graciously prepared a delicious lunch: Jamaican rice and peas, fried plantains, curried chickpeas, fresh veggies tossed in herb pesto, and fresh juice! 😋 We’re excited to bring her unique and nutritious produce to KCG when we open! @jamaicanfarmmom #urbanfarming #caribbeanfood #freshfood #produce #community by @kennettcommunitygrocer
🌱 Getting to know our farmers: Urban Roots Farm As KCG’s new Produce Manager, Gaige has been visiting the farms we’ll be working with to get to know the people behind our food, learn about their growing practices, and build relationships with our farmers. Having someone dedicated to these connections is an important part of how we’re building KCG. One of his recent visits was to Urban Roots Farm, a small farm with an impressive output. They supply CSA shares to the local community and specialty produce to Michelin-recognized restaurants in the Philadelphia area. During his visit, Gaige learned about Urban Roots’ commitment to making fresh food more accessible, including partnerships that help provide affordable food to elderly and underserved communities. The farm follows organic growing practices and specializes in a variety of vegetables and heirloom crops. Its CSA shares also feature products from neighboring farms, including eggs and blueberries, helping support other local producers. Urban Roots is enthusiastic about participating in KCG’s CSA program, and we’re looking forward to sharing more about the farms and farmers who will be part of our community. #supportfarmers #freshfood #shoplocal #community #chestercountypa 🥕 @urbanrootsphilly by @kennettcommunitygrocer
