🎃 Halloween is right around the corner! 👻 Check out these tips to help you plan ahead, look out for your friends, and stay safe while enjoying the spooky season. 💙💛#Wellness #HarmReduction #Safety #College A Kent State of Well-being and Recreation and Wellness Services handout with a navy blue, gold, and white design. The title reads “Prepare for a Spooktacular Time.” The introduction states: “Halloween has long been part of the Kent State community, though downtown Halloween is not an official University or City event. Whether you're celebrating, relaxing with friends, or skipping it altogether, enjoy the season and have a plan that works for you.” The handout includes the following safety tips: Your Night, Your Call: Choose what feels right for you. Whether you go downtown, spend time with friends, or stay in, your plans are YOUR choice. Trust Yourself: Lean on your values and trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, it's okay to leave, step away, or change your plans. Set Boundaries: Set limits before going out and communicate them clearly to your friends. Make a Plan & Stay Together: There may be large crowds in Kent on Halloween night. Plan ahead with people you trust and decide how you'll stay connected throughout the night. Look Out for Friends: Check in if someone seems unwell or gets separated from a group. If you're concerned about someone's health or safety, call 911. Dress for Comfort: Ohio weather can be unpredictable. Consider layers and comfortable shoes so you can stay comfortable throughout the night. Alcohol & Other Substances: If you choose to use alcohol or other substances, make informed choices. Go slow, hydrate and eat, watch your drink, avoiding mixing substances. Remember that choosing not to use is always an option. Be an Advocate & Active Bystander: See someone being pressured, harassed, or in an unsafe situation? Step in safely however you are able. If you're concerned for someone's health or safety, call 911. Get Home Safely: Plan ahead for how you'll get home. If substances are involved, only ride with a sober driver. Walking with a group, using a rideshare service, or arranging transportation in advance can help everyone get home safely. University's Good Samaritan Provision: The university encourages students to call 911 for immediate medical attention, without concern of disciplinary consequences related to alcohol or substance use. Instead, students may be referred to complete an alcohol or drug evaluation, counseling, and/or treatment. This occurs on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Dean of Students.
